Mary Elizabeth Shackelford peacefully passed on to be with Jesus on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at home in Hope, Idaho. There will be a service of remembrance and celebration on Saturday, February 12th at the Gardina Center at 1 pm.
Mary was born June 16, 1950 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada the daughter of Fredrick Jackson and Catherine (Crothers) Telgmann. She married Wendell Shackelford in 1980 and moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1990. They designed and built the Swan’s Landing Restaurant. Mary (nickname Rosebud) was a passionate gardener, artist, and of late a community organizer. Painting flowers and swans were a Mary trademark. She was involved in the Native Plant Society, and Hope Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Alice Telgmann. She is survived by her brother John Telgmann who lives in Kingston, and her loving partner Curtis Kitchen who looked after her during her time with cancer at their home in Hope. There are so many other people who enjoyed walking along life’s path with Mary. She exuded so much appreciation of God’s creation evident by her gentleness, kindness, smile, and angelic loving ways.

Frank Eugene Shockley Sr., 65, passed away, Sunday, February 6, 2005 at his home in Sagle, Idaho.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 7:00 pm today, Thursday, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint. Funeral services will be held at noon, Friday, February 11, 2005 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Westmond Ward with Bishop Doug Marks conducting. Burial will follow at the Pack River Cemetery.
Frank was born April 14, 1939 in Mason City, Washington to Frank and Elaine (Haire) Shockley. He always enjoyed working outdoors. He began working at a young age in logging, mining, and later for Burlington Northern as a railroad trackman, foreman, and track inspector.
Frank married Mary Raan on June 1, 1966 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He retired and moved to Talache in 1997.
Frank is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed making knives, hunting, camping, cooking, and rebuilding small engines. Frank had a great love for family and friends; “strays” were always welcome in Franks home and he made sure they had a meal before leaving. He never ended a conversation with his grandkids without telling them, “love you mostest.”
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Mary Shockley of Sagle; sons Frank Jr. of Libby, Montana; William "Bill" Shockley of Lakeside, Florida; and Eric (Sharon) Shockley of Kalispell, Montana. He is also survivied by his daughters Cyndi (Russ) Puppe of Missoula, Montana; Carina (Chad) Peck of Spokane; eleven grandchildren Christine Elaine, Michelle (husband Neal), Tasha, Lysa, Richard, Rachel, Kaily, Michael, Conner, Brenna and Roni; two great grandchildren Geoffery and Elias; sisters Ann Surface of Junction City, Oregon and Delores Corner of Comano Island, Washinton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins including Jack Brumbaugh, Carol Kelly, and June Crow.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

James B. Fenton, 78, passed away surrounded by family Sunday, January 16, 2005 at his home in Dover, Idaho. A memorial service will be held at 2pm Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Fenton home in Dover following the service.
Jim was born July 5, 1926 in Los Angeles, California to James and Lenore (Barrett) Fenton. At age three his family moved to San Jose, California where Jim attended school and graduated from high school. After high school, Jim enlisted in the Naval Officers Training Program at USC. The war ended before he saw active duty and he was honorably discharged. He then attended San Jose State College graduating with a double degree in chemistry and natural science.
In 1951 he married Joyce Rowe and began working at the Richmond Chase Canning Co. as a food chemist. He then partnered with a childhood friend and started an advertising business marketing housing developments that were springing up in the Santa Clara Valley. It was during this time he began learning about the land development business.
In 1958 Jim and Joyce moved with their new son to Aptos, California. He purchased land in Aptos and began developing the Rancho Del Mar Shopping Center, which opened in 1964. During this time his two daughters were born. In the summer of 1972, while visiting friends at Priest Lake, Jim and his family discovered Sandpoint. They bought the Ross Hall home, and the family moved north soon after. In Sandpoint, Jim continued to operate Rancho Del Mar Shopping Center as well as build the Lake Plaza Building.
Jim was one of the founders of Panhandle State Bank and served as the bank’s Chairman of the Board of Directors for ten years, retiring from the board in 2000 due to health reasons. he bank recognized his service with the title of Board Member Emeritus.
Jim had a great love for Lake Pend Oreille and its surrounding mountains. He enjoyed boating and fishing on the lake in the summer and skiing in winter. He taught his children to ski at Schweitzer and was active in the Schweitzer Alpine Racing School organization while his daughters were ski racing. Jim loved his home and his family and treasured his grandsons. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Fenton of Dover; son Steve Fenton of Dover; daughters Julie (Steve) Meyer of Sandpoint and Susie (Mark) Kubiak of Dover; grandchildren Andy and Paul Meyer of Sandpoint; Gusto and Julian Kubiak of Dover; brothers Bill (Betty) Fenton of Santa Cruz, California; Banning Fenton of Hayward, California; niece Joan Howard of Santa Cruz, California and nephew Bob Fenton of San Jose, California.

Malcolm F. Hall, 58, passed away surrounded by family and friends Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at his home in Sandpoint, Idaho. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint with Charley Packard officiating. Family and friends will gather after the service at the Hydra Restaurant.
Malcolm was born Feb. 3, 1946 in Oklahoma City. He grew up in Tulsa, Okla. where he graduated from Central High School. In 1964, he was the recipient of a Newspaper Printing Corporation scholarship and received his BA in Journalism and English from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla.
In the decade between 1972 and 1982, he lived in Sandpoint where he was employed as a reporter/photographer and later acted as the editor of the Sandpoint Daily Bee. During this time he wrote numerous freelance magazine articles and acted as editor of an award-winning special edition “Progress” report for three years.
Between 1975-76, he traveled extensively throughout Central and South America writing and taking photographs with his wife Ellie Rogerson. Malcolm and Ellie were married in 1972. Articles under his name have appeared in numerous publications in the United States including such diverse locales as the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, the Island Packet in Hilton Head, S.C. and the “Pacific Skipper” magazine.
“Healthwise Exercise (Before You Rise)” is his first book and was conceived after his return to Tulsa in 1982 where he witnessed the dramatic effects of exercise on his father. Two years were spent in writing and research for the book. At the same time father and son designed kitchens and sold cabinets under the business name of C. Floyd Hall Kitchens.
Malcolm returned to Sandpoint in 1985 and married Sarah Faux in 1988. He became a loving father to her three daughters. It was during this time that Malcolm wrote the column “It’s A Wonderful Life” for the Bonner County Daily Bee. From 1989 to 1990 Malcolm moved his family to Olympia, Wash. where he served as the Media Relations Writer for the Washington State House of Representatives. The family returned to Sandpoint at the end of 1990 where Malcolm worked for the Pack River Management Company and the couple had a coffee kiosk on the Cedar Street Bridge.
He moved to Tulsa in 1998 where he served as a reporter for the Tulsa Business Journal. After being asked to become the senior reporter for the In Business Las Vegas newspaper, Malcolm moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Most recently Malcolm freelanced as a writer and editor for the RBC Publications, Inc. and Fierro Communications, Inc. out of Las Vegas.
Malcolm enjoyed boating, skiing, writing and crossword puzzles. He is survived by his sister, Roberta Hall Wherritt and brother-in-law Bart Wherritt of Salt Lake City, niece, Robyn Wherritt Jamilosa of Seattle, step-daughters, Pearl Jiles, Abby Sigman, Rose Licon, aunt Hazel Hall of Sandpoint, numerous Hall family cousins and special friends Dana Martin and Jody Bopp of Sandpoint. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Floyd and Alma Jane Hall, and his uncle Ross Hall.

William C. Hughes, Sr., 79, passed away, Friday, January 21, 2005 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Private services have been held.
Mr. Hughes was born July 24, 1925 in Stratford, Connecticut to William and Gunhild Hughes. He grew up and attended schools in Stratford where he graduated from high school. He then entered the United States Navy during World War II. After the war he went to work as a long haul truck driver.
William married Ludmila Schovance on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1952 in Trumbull, CT. William went to work for Southern Connecticut Gas Company as an electrician where he remained employed for the next 33 years, retiring as supervisor of instrumentation in 1989.
William and Lil spent the next few years traveling all over the world. In June 2004 William and Lil moved to Sandpoint, Idaho to be closer to their son and his family.
William was a member of Nichols United Methodist Church in Trumbull, Past Master and Treasurer of Corinthian Lodge #104 A.F. & A.M., Pyramid Shrine Club, and Azalea Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. He volunteered much of his time driving burn victims to the Shrine Hospitals in Springfield and Boston, Massachusetts. William enjoyed yard work, wood working, traveling, and volunteering at the church.
He is survived by his wife Ludmila Hughes of Sandpoint; daughter Susan (Jack) McDaniel of Millersville, MD; son Bill (Celie) Hughes, Jr. of Sandpoint; three grandchildren Jennifer Boetig, Christopher McDaniel, and William Hughes. He is also survived by his brother Cornelius Hughes of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Phillip, and John.

Sally K. Hale, 97, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Private family services have been held.
Sally was born on August 14, 1907 in Flint, Michigan to Richard and Emma Kirchoff. She grew up and attended schools in Flint.
Sally lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for 18 years during her adult life. She married Pappy Hale in Hawaii and the couple ran the Outrigger Hotel.
After her divorce from Pappy, she moved to San Jose, California until 1992 when she moved to Sandpoint.
She spent 12 very happy years at Valley Vista Care Center. The staff all new what a special and loving person Sally was. Her family would like all of the staff at Valley Vista to know how much they appreciated the loving care Sally received.
Sally enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, and all kinds of animals. She had birds, snakes, raccoons, and dogs for pets.
She is survived by her nieces Laurie Bennett and Donna (John) Brosh; great nieces Kaiti and Allie Brosh, all of Sagle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Walt Kirchoff, and sister Margo Bennett.
