Eugene Hess
FREMONT COUNTY, ID. — Horace Eugene Hess Jr., a loving father and friend, passed into the next life early in the morning of the 14th of November, 2009. Eugene was born in the St. Anthony Hospital on Dec. 18, 1935 to parents Horace Eugene Hess Sr. and Erma Porter Hess.
Eugene was a graduate of North Fremont High School, Class of 1954. He later graduated from Ricks College and then from Brigham Young University in 1963 with a degree in Agriculture Economics.
Eugene was called to serve for 30 months as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Samoa mission. He served the bulk of his time in the Raratonga Cook Islands. He always spoke fondly of his service in the Cook Islands. Later in life, Eugene served again as a full time missionary with his wife in the Auckland, New Zealand mission. There he found himself laboring with the children of those he brought the gospel to during his mission in the Cook Islands.
During the Berlin Wall crises in 1961, Eugene was serving in the National Guard. He was quickly mobilized into the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis where he attained the rank of Specialist Grade 5.
A farmer all his life, Eugene returned to the family farm in 1963 where he worked the land with his father and his brothers John and Ray. On October 28, 1963, he left 40 acres of potatoes in the ground in order to marry Ann Todd in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Eugene served in a variety of callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as first counselor in three bishoprics: Bishop Allen in Logan, Utah, and Bishops Gerald Egbert and James Stoddard in Ashton. He also served as a high priest group leader and as a member of the High Council in the Ashton Stake.
Eugene worked on the Marysville Canal Board for several years, ensuring reliable water was distributed to all the farmers in the community. The potato packing warehouse in Ashton was a place that Eugene also spent a lot of time. He was always able to tell a good joke and bring a smile to one’s face.
Eugene was a husband, father, brother, uncle and teacher first and a farmer second. He is survived by his wife, Ann Todd Hess, and five children; Doug (Marie) Hess, Ashton, Edward (Robyn) Hess, Malad, Von (Nicole) Hess, Ogden, UT, Elizabeth (Shane) Roos, West Yellowstone, MT, and Annette (Jeff) Lynn, Medford, OR. He also had the joy of being a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren. He was also survived by two brothers and two sisters: John (Shirley) Hess, Ashton, Ray (Marcia) Hess, Ashton, Dorothy (Larry) Hill, St. George, UT/Island Park, and Diane (Wayne) Shurtliff, Ammon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Colton Hess.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at the Ashton Tri-Ward LDS Chapel, east of Ashton. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the church and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery
under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 89.
Joan Marie Lampi
Joan Marie Lampi, 65, of Cloquet, MN. died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 in her home with her loving family by her side. She was born May 30, 1944 in Cloquet to Wesley “Barry” and Luella “Betty” Morrisette. Joan graduated from Cloquet High School in 1962. She worked at Northwest Paper Company until her marriage to Dennis Lampi on Nov. 21, 1964. They moved to St. Paul where Joan worked for an insurance adjuster and was employed by a St. Paul bank. In 1969 they returned to Cloquet. Joan was a stay at home mom until 1985 when she went to work at Bergquist Imports until retiring in 2004.
Joan was a volunteer at the Community Memorial Hospital gift shop, had her own home day care for several years and was a mentor to kids. She enjoyed crafts and cooking. She put together two cookbooks containing recipes of her own and those of other family and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis; daughter, Amy Jackson of Cloquet; son, Chad of Esko; sister, Judy (Tom) Nuebel of Island Park, Idaho; mother-in-law, Lillian Ganter of Carlton; sister-in-law, Jeanne (Ed) Szumowski of Cloquet; two grandchildren, Courtney and Preston Jackson; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation: 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 in the Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Visitation will continue from 10 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 also in the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery
in Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will be provided by the ENP program at the Fond du Lac Tribal Center following the service.
Rodeo Vincent
Roger "Rodeo" Vincent, 52, of West Yellowstone passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009 of an apparent heart attack after putting one of his sick racing dogs to sleep.
Rodeo was born in Wichita, Kansas on April 29, 1957 to Jess and Patricia (Klenke) Vincent.
Going along with the passion he had for his own dogs, Rodeo was an active member of the Montana dled dog mushing Community.
A celebration of Rodeo's life was held on Thursday, Dec. 10, at Wild West Pizzeria in West Yellowstone.
A Rodeo Vincent memorial fund has been set up at Yellowstone Basin Bank.
Reba Earle
Reba Della Shurtliff Earle, 86, of Ammon, died December 30, 2009, at her home.
Reba was born December 27, 1923, at Iona, Idaho, the seventh of eight children born to Thomas Iera Shurtliff and Mayme Mae Smith Shurtliff.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three siblings, Iline, Loral, and Leland.
Surviving brothers and sister are Rene, Marvin, Rex, and Arline.
Reba was raised in Iona and later attended Ricks College.
She met her sweetheart, Leo Albert "Sam" Earle and they were married May 22, 1942.
She spent the next three years accompanying Sam through Air Force training and working as "Rosie the Riveter." In 1945, after the war, they became owners of Earle Equipment & Motor Company (Case Farm Machinery and Ford Car Dealerships) in Ashton, Idaho, which they operated for 36 years.
Reba and Sam raised four beautiful children, Steve, Mike, Scott, and Aileen, and were later blessed with 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Reba and Sam retired in 1982 and moved to Washington, Utah, where she became known as "Sister Friendly" in the church primary, spreading her sunshine to everyone she touched. Love and happiness was her desire for everyone.
Reba and Sam were sealed for time and all eternity on December 30, 1986, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
She returned to her eternal home and sweetheart exactly 23 years later.
Reba was cherished and loved by her family and all who knew her.
She truly was a unique and special lady whose guidance, wisdom and love will remain with us forever.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, in the Idaho Falls LDS Woodruff 1st Ward, 1660 -- 12th Street, with Bishop Brian Hobbs of the Ammon LDS 5th Ward officiating and Bishop LaMar Densley presiding.
The family will visit with friends Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church.

Lee Staten
Leland Stacy Staten, 86, of Idaho Falls, died Sunday, January 3, 2010, at Mt. Vernon Care Center of natural causes.
He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
Lee was born September 29, 1923, in Buhl, to Leonard E. Staten and Mildred Mary Thomas Staten.
He grew up in Buhl and Swan Valley and attended Irwin Elementary.
He graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
He took electrical training in the U. S. Navy and served as an Electricians Mate 3rd Class during World War II.
Lee married Bette Ruth Rapp on April 2, 1943, in Pocatello.
He worked as a Union Electrician with IBEW 449. Bette died March 11, 2008.
He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge, and Fugowee and Idaho Snow Pups.
Lee enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, traveling, snowmobiling, working with his hands, building his Island Park cabin and trailer, and welding.
Survivors include his daughters, Vada Roberts, Shelley, and B. Jeanna Staten, Idaho Falls; son, Richard L. Staten, Shelley; brother, Lynn (Maxine) Staten, Atomic City; sister, Donna DeGrange, Meridian; sisters-in-law, Lois Staten, Boise, and Juanita Staten, Fontana, CA; eight grandchildren & eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bette, a grandson, Shawn David Smith, and two brothers, Ephraim Staten and Leonard L. Staten.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge.
The family will visit with friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Wood Funeral Home.

Kyleen M. Dereschuk
VICTOR, ID. — Kyleen Marie Dereschuk passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at her home in Victor from complications from cancer.
Kyleen was born November 23, 1956, in Wolf Point, the youngest of three daughters of Donna and Mitch Dereschuk.
She attended Wolf Point schools and graduated in 1974.
She lived for a time in West Yellowstone, where she made many friends and was known for her love of life and of the West Yellowstone area, including Hebgen Lake.
She also had many friends in Island Park.
Kyleen is survived by her mother, Donna Dereschuk; sister, Noni (Dereschuk) Johnson; brother, Gary Jeide; Victor Elia, long-time companion; niece, Nicole Henderson; nephew, Nathan Johnson; grand-nephew Thomas Henderson; and uncle, Max Kauffman.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mitch Dereschuk; and sister, Eve (Dereschuk) Bryson.
Kyleen was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church of Wolf Point, being confirmed in 1971.
She loved and lived life to the fullest.
A celebration of Kyleen's life has taken place in West Yellowstone.
Nathan Jensen
ISLAND PARK — Nathan K Jensen, 17, of Island Park, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at his home.
He was born January 6, 1993 in Idaho Falls to Jackie Cameron Jensen and Kelly Ray Jensen.
He lived in Island Park his entire life and attended school in Ashton.
He was a Junior at North Fremont High School.
He was very passionate about life, his interests, and the people that were close to him.
He enjoyed playing his guitars and was very talented.
His ability allowed him to play just about anything.
He rode snowmobiles, dirt bikes and snowboarded.
By the time he was sixteen, he had broken all of his limbs doing the things he enjoyed.
Nate worked in the kitchen at Phillips Lodge and touched everyone that he worked with.
His wit and sense of humor were incredible.
He is survived by his mother, Jackie Jensen, his father Kelly Jensen, his sister Riley Jensen, all of Island Park; his grandparents, Paul and Judy Deffinger of Pocatello, Roger Cameron of Pocatello, LaRay Scroggins of Ririe; great-grandmother Donna Scroggins of Ririe; and his aunt Christie Cameron of Island Park. He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather Ray Scroggins and great-grandmother Mina Cameron.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 14 at the Ashton LDS Stake Center, 516 North 2nd Street. The family will meet with friends Thursday from 12 to 12:45 p.m. at the stake center prior to services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton.
A Memorial Fund has been established for Nate’s family at the Bank of Idaho, 3976 US Hwy 20, Island Park, ID. 83429.
