Dr. Homer Avery Jacobs
ISLAND PARK — Dr. Homer Avery Jacobs Jr., born in El Paso, Texas on October 29, 1932, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 15, 2009 at his summer home in Pinehaven. He was 76 years old.
He attended Texas A&M University, graduated from Texas Western College and received his medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, where he completed his medical training before returning home to start his long and successful OB-GYN practice.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Avery Jacobs and Margaret Stevens Jacobs and his wife, Patricia Robinson Jacobs. He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Myrna M. Jacobs, and his children: Lori Jacobs Scott and husband Leo, Carol Jacobs Comey and husband Rob, Homer Avery Jacobs III , William D. Winston III and wife Denise and grandchildren Mollie Patricia Scott, John David Scott, Leo Miles Scott, Jr., Kyle Jacob Comey, Jason Tanner Comey, Sydney Winston and Alex Winston. He is also survived by his brother, Philip Stevens Jacobs, of San Antonio and sister-in-law, Linda LaFleur, of El Paso, a niece and nephews.
Homer will be remembered as an outstanding physician and friend to all but mostly as a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Services were held in El Paso, Texas on Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Local arrangements were through Bert Flamm Mortuary.
Shirley Eva Burrell
ASHTON — Shirley Eva Burrell, 83, of Ashton, passed away in Ashton on Sunday, May 24, 2009. Shirley was born in Ogden, Utah on November 7, 1925. She was the youngest of two sisters. When she was four ,the family moved to San Francisco, where they lived for a short period until her mother died. Shirley and her older sister, Geraldine, were then adopted by their aunt and uncle, Carl and Vi Marshall, in Pocatello, where she grew up. She attended Pocatello High School.
Shirley was working in Island Park when she met Harold Burrell and they were married in August 1943. Shirley moved with her husband to Marysville, where they operated a service station for several years. They had three children — Craig, Brent and Trina. Shirley raised her family in Marysville, where she raised a garden that she used to feed her family. Shirley was an extremely hard worker that taught her children and grandchildren the value of hard work. She enjoyed working in the potatoes when she was younger and would tell her family stories about that period in her life. She was an excellent cook and until the last few years was always baking or making some treats such as cinnamon rolls, donuts, pies, fudge, cookies, or cakes for the grandchildren or neighbors. Her grandsons especially loved her special roast beef dinners with apple pie for dessert.
She had an extreme love of all animals and especially dogs. She rarely could be seen without a dog somewhere close by. She fed many dogs in the Marysville area throughout the years and it was often joked that many of those dogs ate better than most people.
Shirley loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they enjoyed spending time at her home enjoying her food and watching movies with her. She was always concerned about her neighbors and friends and would often check on them to make sure they were doing ok.
Shirley was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was in the Ashton 3rd Ward at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, Harold, of Ashton; children, Craig (Diana) Burrell of Salem, Oregon, Brent (Connie) Burrell of Ashton, Trina (Jesse) Shaw of Great Falls, Montana; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and a brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, at the Ashton Third Ward Chapel, with Bishop Kevin Stevens officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton, and Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
Terry Cahoon
ISLAND PARK — Terry L. Cahoon, 55, a longtime resident, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 in the forest in Island Park.
He was found by Fremont County Search and Rescue volunteers on Saturday, May 31.
A celebration of his life will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 at Island Park Lodge, 4149 N. Big Big Springs Road in Island Park.

James and Traci Anderson Taul
James Taul, 59, and his wife, Traci J. (Anderson) Taul, 54, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, near Dubois, Idaho.
James was born Nov. 22, 1949, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Kenny Taul and Florence Katseanes Taul. He grew up and attended school and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
Traci was born May 16, 1954, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Duke Anderson and Peggy Cottrell Anderson. She graduated from Blackfoot High School and attended Idaho State University.
James married Traci Jo Anderson on Jan. 30, 1974, in Jackson, Wyo. They made their home in Idaho Falls and raised two daughters, Jami and Jessica.
James was an entrepreneur and successful businessman. Traci worked for the INL as an engineer for more than 25 years and had her works published in several publications. They were known as a couple who lived life to the fullest. They enjoyed boating, golfing, fishing and snowmobiling together. They especially enjoyed being with their grandchildren and extended family.
Traci loved gardening and decorating. She loved to dance with her girls in the morning, especially with her granddaughter, Karsyn.
They are survived by their daughters, Jami (Chane) Horrocks of Blackfoot and Jessica Taul of Idaho Falls. James is also survived by his siblings, Charles (Nancy) Taul of Seattle, Wash., Cindy (Jeff) Isom of Billings, Mont., and Kenny "Buzzard" Top of Idaho Falls. Traci is survived by her parents, Duke and Peggy Cottrell Anderson of Blackfoot; and siblings, Layne (Laurie) Anderson, Debbie Anderson and Sherry (Dennis) Nelson, all of Blackfoot, and Kathy Top of Idaho Falls. Together, they are survived by three grandchildren, Karsyn and Adisyn Horrock and Recker Powell.
A memorial gathering will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Rose River Reception Center, 23 West 450 North in Blackfoot, take the Rose Exit off Interstate 15.
James (Jim) O. Harris
BOISE — James O. Harris passed away in his home on Thursday, May 21, 2009. He was born September 1, 1953, in Ashton, to James R. “Bob” & Bernice M. Ohlert Harris. James graduated from North Fremont High School in 1971, and received his Bachelor Degree in Accounting at ISU in 1976 and his Masters in Business Management at BSU in 1984. From 1977 to 2007, he worked as a Financial Analyst for Idaho Power.
In his short 55 years, he realized his dream of travel, visiting several foreign countries and special USA destinations. Along the way his passion for art was realized by his collection of oil paintings, watercolors, statues, glass, pottery, and metal sculptures. He enjoyed playing the piano, and was an avid reader and gardener as shown by the beautiful landscaping for his home. Over the years, Jim opened his home to exchange students from many countries including Sweden, Turkey, West Germany, and Japan.
As a young boy, he learned to ski at Bear Gulch and later was a Certified Ski Instructor at Caribou. Rollerblading and cycling were other sports he enjoyed, and he was a dedicated fan for all of his godchildren’s sporting events.
James is survived by his siblings, Shawna Anderson, Idaho Falls, Lecia (Don) Harris, Boise, Bernetta (Kenneth) Hanson, Ashton, godchildren Nate & Alex Meier, Boise, and a large extended family of many special friends including Donna and Kendal Meier, Steve Meier, the family of Jan Vinson, Richard Shriver, Joanne and Patty Hinkel. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his favorite felines, Suki and Sake.
Memorial Services were Friday, May 29, at the Summers Funeral Home, Boise. Memorial donations are encouraged to your local Humane Society.
Clendon Fred Lenz
ASHTON — Clendon Fred Lenz, age 60, passed away Sunday, June 7, at the Salt Lake City Veterans Hospital, of natural causes.
Clendon was born August 8, 1948, at Nampa, to Norbert and Thelma Lenz. He attended schools in Ashton and graduated from North Fremont High School in 1965. Clendon attended Idaho State University until he was drafted into the military; he served honorably with his combat unit in Viet Nam.
On October 19, 1975, he married Sue Fiel, of Burley, in Zion Lutheran Church in Ashton. Clendon and Sue were blessed with two sons, Justin, of Occidental, California, and Jarod, of Seattle, Washington.
For the past 25 years, Clendon and his life partner, Dianne Hendry, have made their home on Fall River in Squirrel.
Clendon is survived by his parents of Ashton; his sons; Dianne; two brothers, Wayne, of Ashton, and Vern (Irit), of Boise; four sisters, Ardie (Roy) Kelm, of Three Forks, Montana, Patti (Darris) Schuldies of St.
Anthony, Sharon (Rod) Staeb, of Wilford, and Elaine Lenz, of Idaho Falls; and 14 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashton. Burial was in the Squirrel Cemetery.
Military rites were conducted by the Ashton American Legion Post 89.
Bettie Eagle Nelson
WEST YELLOWSTONE — Bettie Eagle Nelson, 91, of West Yellowstone died of natural causes at Mountain View Care Center in Bozeman on June 3, 2009. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Community Protestant Church in West Yellowstone following a family gathering to inter her ashes at the Fir Ridge Cemetery.
Bettie was born on November 23, 1917, in St. Anthony, Idaho, the sixth child of Sam and Ida Eagle. She grew up in West Yellowstone and Bozeman, graduating from Gallatin County High School and Montana State College where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She worked in personnel for several years during World War II at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California. Upon her return to Montana, she helped manage Eagle’s Store, her family’s business in West Yellowstone, during the summer season and was a librarian at Montana State College during the winter months. She was a charter member of the West Yellowstone Historical Society. Bettie and friend, Peg Roman Taylor, were honored by Montana State University for an annual newsletter they published more than 60 years for fellow alums. One of Bettie’s favorite adventures was a trip around the world with friend, Marje Paisley.
In 1968 Bettie married the love of her life, Luther Nelson. He joined her at Eagle’s Store as the store’s accountant. They were active members of the Community Protestant Church in West Yellowstone, reaching out to others with friendship and personal philanthropy, touching lives in powerful ways. She and Luther thoroughly enjoyed being actively involved with their nieces and nephews and visiting friends and relatives on their annual winter trips to California and Nevada.
Bettie loved Yellowstone Park, wild flowers, and chocolate. She will be remembered for her ability to make each person in her life feel uniquely special, for her quick wit and her sassy sense of humor. Bettie was loved for her fun sense of life, her infectious smile and hearty laughter, her positive attitude, and her faith. Former store employees cherish memories of Bettie and the impact she had on their lives, both while employed and as they moved on in life. In 2008 Bettie was able to celebrate a milestone event: the 100th Anniversary of Eagle’s Store, where she joined hundreds of family members, former employees, and friends to celebrate the anniversary of the family business.
Survivors include brothers, Joe (Kay) Eagle and Wally (Frankie) Eagle of West Yellowstone; sister-inlaw, Margaret Eagle of Helena; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families from throughout the country.
Bettie was preceded in death by husband, Luther Nelson; parents, Sam and Ida Eagle; brothers, Henry (Dorotha), Ed (Marje), Bill, Bud (Jean), Harold; sisters, Helen (Eddie) and Rose (Hermie); and three nephews.
Suggested memorial donations include the Community Protestant Church Scholarship Fund, 505 N. Electric Street and The Eagle Family Foundation, P.O. Box 280, in West Yellowstone, MT 59758.
Rolly Arneson
ASHTON — Roland "Rolly" J. Arneson, 66, of Ashton passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009.
The son of Ella and Edwin Arneson, Rolly was born Feb. 19, 1942, in Cooperstown, N.D. and was one of 12 children. He grew up on family farms in North Dakota and loved to ride horses which he continued to do when he moved as a teenager with his family to Montana.
At the age of 19, he met another horse enthusiast, Mary Frances Robinson who soon became his bride. They shared 46 years of marriage and 4 children; Richie, Debbie, R.J. and Carrie. Mary passed away August 4, 2007.
Rolly worked in the logging business for most of his life. He was a very skilled heavy equipment operator. He was also an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent as much time possible fishing the Snake River in Idaho, and in his earlier days, the Ruby River in Montana.
Rolly is survived by his children Debra Arneson, RJ and LaDina Arneson, and Carrie and Billy Hansen, six grandchildren ,Lacey, Sarah, Arron and Brandon, Jasmine and Daysha; brothers, Gerald Arneson, Rick (Pat) Arneson, Roger, and Mike (Jodi) Arneson; sisters, June (Henry) Hearting, Ellen (Pat) Regan, Joann Kopac, and Dixie(Jack) Mehrens; mother-in-law, Pearl Swartz; brother-in-law, Norman (DeeDee) Swartz; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his son Richard; father-in-law, Frank Robinson , brother-in-law, Frank Jr.; brothers, Donald and Cliff; and sister, Joyce.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. There will be a luncheon following the services at the Ashton Inn Hotel.
