Beverly Kay Medrud, 74, passed away, Saturday, January 10, 2004 near Sandpoint, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint with the Rev. Dr. Nancy Copeland Payton officiating. Services will be under the auspices of Martha Chapter #34 Order of the Eastern Star. Visitation for friends and family will be held Friday evening from 5 – 7 pm at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint.
Bev was born on September 6, 1929 in Kenneth, Minnesota to William and Anna (Wiggers) Perkins. She grew up and attended schools in Luverne, Minnesota, graduating from Luverne High School. After 2 years of Business College, Bev moved to Southern California where she worked for the Herald Examiner.
Bev married Rick Richardson in Yuma, Arizona in 1950, they raised 4 children, and were later divorced. After completing nurses training in 1965 she went to work for Rancho Los Amigos County Hospital in Los Angeles County, where she later retired from.
Bev married Richard Medrud on June 2, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home in Fullerton, CA. In 1991, they moved to Sandpoint to retire.
Bev is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Past Worthy Matron of Martha Chapter #34 Order of the Eastern Star, and Bonner General Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cross stitch, and needle work. Her true passion was playing Bingo. She also enjoyed cooking, playing the piano, and was an accomplished Bridge player.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, 7 months, and 7 days Richard Medrud Sandpoint; four daughters Debra (Dave) Gullo of Sandpoint; Maridee (Victor) Sellarole of Valencia, CA; Pam (Peter) Busciglio of LeHabra, CA; Donetta (Wayne) Brown of Hacienda Heights, CA; five sons Mark (Jennifer) Richardson of Sandpoint; Jay (Kim) Medrud of Bishop, CA; Dale (Tina) Medrud, Santee, CA; Scott (Ila) Richardson of Flint, MI; Wade (Joanie) Medrud of LaMirda, CA as well as 30 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She is alos survied by three sisters Elizabeth Kooiman, Edgerton, MN; Dorthea Texel, Luverne, MN; and Wilma Earl of Buckley, WA; as well as many nieces and nephews and her best friend Nancy Kerr of Sandpoint.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gilbert Perkins.

Joseph S. Howard, 80, Master Sergeant U.S. Air Force, passed away peacefully at his home in Sandpoint on, Sunday, January 4, 2004.
Joe was born on February 19, 1923 in Denver, Colorado to George W. Howard, Jr. and Amanda Teeters Howard. He moved to Renton, Washington at the age of 5.
After training to be a race horse jockey and spending time in the Civilian Conservation Corp, he joined the Army Air Corp in 1941. He worked as a military photographer for 20 years, eventually becoming a radar technician for fighter jets. He earned his high school diploma, Bachelor of Arts degree, and Masters of Business Administration while in the Air Force.
During World War II he served in England, Ireland, and Germany. It was in Munich, Germany that he met his wife, Erika Scharl. They married on December 1, 1951 in Erding, Germany, and had 2 children Cherilyn and James David.
After 27 years of service in the Air Force, Joe retired and went to work for the Puyallup School District as a computer technician.
Joe’s Air Force career took him all over the world. He had a life long love of Germany and of travel. He was an accomplished outdoorsman and photographer and particularly enjoyed fishing trips with he son, Jim, and visits from his granddaughters.
After his retirement from the Puyallup School District, he moved to Thompson Falls, Montana and then to Sandpoint where he loved raising horses.
He is survived by his daughter Cherilyn (Ray) Mathisen of Poulsbo, WA; his son James D. (Nancy) Howard of Puyallup, WA; grandaughters Brenda Jayne of Puyallup, WA; Lauren, Erin and Kirsten Mathisen of Poulsbo, WA; stepson Donnie Proctor of Tacoma, WA; sister Pearl Wolf of Renton, WA; and brother James Howard of Spokane, WA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Connie, ex-wife Erika, 2 brothers George and John Howard, 2 sisters Lois Springer and Velma Jarrell.

Anna Elizabeth "Betty" Lappin, 79, passed away on, Saturday, January 3, 2004 in Sandpoint, Idaho. No services have been scheduled.
Betty was born on September 14, 1924 in Fall River, Massachusetts to Roger and Mary Jane Dwyer. She grew up and attended schools in Miami, Florida. On February 14, 1945 Betty married Melvin Lappin in Miami.
The couple moved to Baker, Oregon in 1946 and started a family. From 1953 to 1972 the Lappin family lived in the San Fernando Valley, California where Betty cared for their 3 children. In 1972 the family settled in Emmett, Idaho.
Betty enjoyed reading, crocheting, and she loved her two daschund dogs. In 1999 she moved to Sandpoint to be closer to her family.
She is survived by her two daughters Barbara (Garry) Hoadley of Troy, MT; pat (Loyal) Amstutz of Sandpoint; son Michael Lappin of Sandpoint; sister May Clarke, nephew Alan Clarke, and nieces Betty Turner and Kim Clarke, all of Emmett, Idaho. She is also survived by four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Lola Kathryn Martin, 87, of Sandpoint, Idaho passed away, February 23, 2005. Private family services have been held.
Lola was born in Lenora, Kansas, August 19, 1917, the oldest of four children to John Andrew and Grace Eileen Schoen. She was a strong family person. She was also a serious musician practicing her first piano lessons on a paper copy of a keyboard, and only playing an actual piano at the teacher’s house.
She was active in the local music scene, performing locally in churches and at public events. She was a supportive wife who moved with her husband from one city to the next, at one point owning 10 different homes in different cities in 20 years. She’d say, “Just give me a piano, and I can be happy anywhere.” She had the routine down. She’d arrive in a new town, get a library card, check out the music store and the local churches, and start her piano classes all over again.
Her resourcefulness came from a childhood spent on a rural Kansas farm and stayed with her her whole life. She talked of making their underwear, and the going-away suit after her farm wedding was a man’s suit she had cut down to fit her. Her childhood was filled with a strong work ethic and all the jobs and skills of a rural farm girl.
Lola Kathryn had a real gutsy, keep going, enjoyment of life, and understanding of who she was, and what she saw as her job in life. There was no space for moping around. Three weeks after colon cancer surgery and months of illness that preceded this, she played the music for a friend’s funeral, saying, he really deserved some nice music. Her request, when asked what she wanted to do for her 80th Birthday, was to go huckleberry picking. When she was told she had Alzheimer’s disease, she wrote in the family history, “Lola told she has Alzheimer’s, continues doing music and normal things.” She approached and lived with this disease with just pure guts.
Lola loved the Festival at Sandpoint, and was the festival historian for several years. She was a member of P.E.O. Her greatest achievement was her approach to life. She was well loved and respected by her community, and particularly her family.
She is survived by 2 brothers Doyle and Edwin Schoen daughters Lois Benson of 4890 Londonberry Drive, Santa Rosa, California 95403; Eileen Martin of 1124 W. 10th Avenue, Spokane, Washington 99204; four grandchildren Lisa and Paul Benson and Michael and Erin Crooks and one great grandchild Sam Benson.
She was preceded in death by her sister Viola in 1977.

Franklin A. "Mick" Mills
Longtime Libby resident and community volunteer, Franklin A. “Mick” Mills, died on February 9th, 2005, in Sandpoint ID. He was 81.
Mick was born March 12, 1923 in Seattle, WA to Frank Mills and Ruth Marshall Mills. When he was very young, Mick moved to Kalispell, MT where he lived with his mother and grandmother. Mick grew up hiking, fishing, and skiing in the Flathead, Bitterroot and Glacier Park areas.
Mick graduated from Flathead High School in 1942. Mick attended aviation school following high school and subsequently was assigned to the Army Air Corps after being drafted in 1943. While stationed in Spokane, Mick met Zelda “Lee” Anderson and they became engaged before he went overseas. The were married December 27, 1947.
Mick and Lee moved to Libby in 1948. Mick was called up for the Korean War, but otherwise the couple remained in Libby in 2003. Mick worked briefly for a flying service before hiring on at J. Neils Lumber Co., and he continued to work at the mill, eventually serving as safety supervisor there until his retirement in 1983.
Mick was involved in starting several community organizations including Libby Volunteer Ambulance, David Thompson Search and Rescue, and Turner Mountain Ski Patrol. Mick acted as Lincoln County's Civil Defense officer for many years. He taught numerous first aid and emergency preparedness classes in Libby and throughout Montana. After his retirement, Mick volunteered with the Alert Helicopter Service at Kalispell Regional Hospital as an EMT.
He and Lee were members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Mick was preceded in death by his wife Lee in 2003. He is survived by his children: Mark Mills of Sierra Vista, AZ; Kim and Debra Mills of Powell, WY; Kirk Mills of Arvada, CO; Mary Shannon and Barney Wisdom of Spokane, WA; Kelly and Kirsten Mills of Ashburn, VA; and Eric (Sam) and Lisa Mills of Sandpoint, ID; and seven grandchildren.
Services are planned for February 19th 2005 in Libby at Christ Lutheran Church at 1 pm. Officiating will be the Reverend Carolyn Kuhr of Kalispell, MT. Arrangements by Lakeview Funeral Home, Sandpoint, and Nelson and Vial of Libby.

Yvonne Marie O’Donnell, 90, passed away, Tuesday, February 1, 2005 in Sandpoint, ID. Funeral Mass will be said at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 5, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint with Father Dennis C. Day officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am till 1:00 pm prior to service time Saturday at the Lakeview Funeral Home. Yvonne will be buried next to her husband John at Holy Cross Cemetery
in Spokane, Washington, Monday, February 7, 2005 at 11:00 am.
Yvonne was born April 19, 1914 in Edmonton, Alberta to Joseph and Virginia Tardif. She grew up and attended schools in Ballard, WA. After graduation from Holy Angels Academy she attended Seattle College. Yvonne worked for the Ford Modeling Agency in Seattle, and later opened a seamstress shop.
Yvonne married John O’Donnell on Valentine’s Day February 14, 1942 in Seattle. John served in the Navy during World War II, and Yvonne would travel to the different Navy ports to see him. After the war the couple moved to Afognak Island near Kodiak, Alaska where they opened and operated a salmon fishing and cannery business. In 1957, the family moved from Alaska, and followed John’s work around the Northwest. They retired to Spokane in 1976. John passed away in 1991. In March 2002 Yvonne moved to Sandpoint to be closer to her family.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed people, traveling, reading, sewing, arranging flowers, and working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her daughters Mary (Del) Goff and Alice (Dale) Holt of Sandpoint; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren and brother Eugene Tardif of Ballard, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, two sisters Lillian Christenson and Marilyn Backstrom, and one brother Earnest Tardif.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Prune Belly Support Network (PBSN), P O Box 154, Beloit, WI 53512-0154, in honor of Yvonne’s great grandson.
