Joshua Jenkins
IDAHO FALLS — Joshua Jack Jenkins, 21, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 17, 2009, in an avalanche on Mt. Jefferson, on the Montana side of the mountain, which is reached through Island Park.
He was born December 29, 1987, in Idaho Falls, to Curtis Leon Jenkins and Launa Louise Wilkins Jenkins. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls, graduated from Skyline High School, and was enrolled at Brigham Young University-Idaho at the time of his death.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he recently returned from an honorable full-time LDS mission to Bangkok, Thailand, where he grew to love the Thai people. Over the years he has helped his father with their family farm and ranch in New Sweden.
Josh loved snowmobiling, motorcycles, playing football for Skyline, working on the ranch, farming with his dad, sharing the gospel, and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jack Jenkins and Blair Wilkins, and his great grandparents, Jay & Dorothy Tyler, Leo & Myrtle Jenkins, Myron & Fontella Cook, and Alyce Wilkins.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2009, at the Idaho Falls LDS Pioneer Ward, 2020 South Charlotte, with Bishop Anthony Passino officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the New Sweden Cemetery
under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to the Josh Jenkins Memorial Fund in care of any branch of U. S. Bank.
Gary E. Cummings
Gary E. Cummings died suddenly on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in Mazatlan, Mexico.
He was born on February 20, 1937 in Pocatello.
Gary was living his dream of spending summers in Island Park and winters in Mazatlan.
He loved to fish and hunt.
He worked for the J.R. Simplot Company in Idaho for 47 years and was union president for 15 of those years.
He retired at age 63 in 2000.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie, of 24 years, who will miss him deeply; his son from his first marriage, Patrick, of San Diego, CA, and his nephew, Mike Tensel (Judy) of Pocatello.

Rauland J. Grube
ASHTON — Rauland J. Grube, 45, of Ashton, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center following a short illness. He was born on November 15, 1963, in Ashton to Rulon and Doris Rasmussen Grube.
He attended the Ashton schools. He graduated from North Fremont High School in 1982. He attended Idaho State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Fu Fraternity. He later worked as a TV cameraman for KIDK and KPVI. He also worked as a newspaper reporter for various newspapers in southeastern Idaho. He coached youth football in the Ashton area. He also umpired Little League baseball and served as an official for the Idaho High School Activities Association. He was also an assistant basketball coach at North Fremont for two years. He was a member of the Ashton Community United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his parents of Ashton; brothers David Q. Grube of Elko, Nevada, Derek W. (Kriss) Grube of Nampa, John E. (Gina) Grube of Ashton; and a sister Sharla (Scott) Harris of Hayden.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, at the Ashton Community United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
Tom Baker, Island Park
ISLAND PARK — Thomas Stanley Baker, 66, of Island Park, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at his home of heart failure.
He was born September 29, 1942, in Clayton, New Mexico, to Myron Brookhart Baker and Ethel Marie Selonka Baker. He grew up and attended Clayton public schools, where he graduated from high school. He obtained a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.
After leaving Clayton, he lived in Alaska, and then in Rigby, Rathdrum, Middleton, and Island Park.
He was married to Jessie Fielden for 18 years and they had three children. He married Renee Moedl on October 10, 1981, in Rigby, and had an additional son and two stepdaughters. He worked as a professional engineer for the Idaho Transportation Department for 35 years.
He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the Lion's Club, Eagles Lodge, Civil Defense for the State of Idaho, and the Island Park Fugowee Snowmobile Club. He served on planning and zoning commissions in Rigby and Island Park. His insight was invaluable to the Island Park Planning and Zoning Commission’s work updating the city’s comprehensive plan and development code. He also served on the Island Park Advocates for Responsible Development board.
He cared deeply about the Island Park community and helped the city write a grant to receive money for a safety project on Hwy. 20. Then, at a party celebrating the project’s success, he stood outside in a spring snowstorm to cook hamburgers for the many guests.
Tom was a master craftsman and enjoyed woodworking, antiques, reading, snowmobiling, fishing with his grandkids, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Renee Baker, of Island Park, daughters Heidi (Ron) Cervi of San Diego, CA. and Cindy Baker of Idaho Falls, sons David (Angie) Baker of Kuna and Dustin Baker of Island Park, stepdaughters Cynthia Suter of Idaho Falls, and Stephanie (Kelly) Christensen of Chesterfield, sister Kathie (Tom) Wells of Spokane, WA., 15 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 1:45 p.m., both at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge.
Burial will be at a later date in the Island Park Cemetery
under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
Greg Coriell
BOISE — Greg Coriell, 52, a former Island Park resident, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2009 of natural causes at a Boise hospital.
Greg was born on October 28, 1956 in Council, a son of Thomas H. and Colleen Coriell. He started as an apprentice commercial carpenter in 1975 after graduating from high school.
In 1996, Greg moved to Henry's Lake with his son, Brian, where he remodeled and re-opened Henry's Lake Station. It was a great position for him because he loved fishing, and Henry’s Lake was nearby for him to enjoy. He made the business a friendly place where people could stop by and brag about their big fish and get some advice on how to catch a lunker. One winter, he hosted a “Guess When the Snow Will Melt Contest.” People guessed the date and time a huge snowpile at the station would finally disappear.
Greg and Brian moved to Ashton in 2005 and lived there until Brian's graduation from North Fremont High School. They moved to Boise in May 2008.
Greg was an avid fisherman and hunter. His greatest joy was to spend time with Brian, playing golf, going fishing, and watching basketball games.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Tom Coriell, and his wife, Toni Coriell. He is survived by his son, Brian, his mother, Colleen Coriell, a brother, Mark Coriell, a sister, Valerie Champion, two nieces, and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a fund that has been established to help Brian finish his education at Boise State. Bring it to Boondocks on Yale-Kilgore Road in Island Park. Nancy Doyle and her son, Eric, will take the donations with a card from the community to the memorial service in Boise. You can also donate to the fund at any Key Bank in Boise.
The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 450 East 2nd North, Mountain Home, Idaho. Cremation was under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home.
James Albertson
James L. Albertson, 50, of Stillwater, MN. passed away tragically on Sunday February 1, 2009 in a snowmobile accident in Island Park, ID.
He is survived by loving wife, Janine; adored daughter, Bailey; mother, Elaine; father, DeWilton; siblings, Jackey Schleusner, Brian (Tracy) Albertson; nieces, Amie Schleusner and Heidi (Jon) Schroetke; nephews, Darek, Stephen and Cory Albertson; aunts, uncles, and many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. February 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 115 North 4th Street in Stillwater. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 &Co Rd 5), Stillwater, and one hour prior to the celebration at the church.

Bruce Matheson
Retired Marine Brig. Gen. Bruce J. Matheson, who lived in Kailua, Hawai'i, died on Thursday, January 29, 2009 from a combination of lung cancer and a heart attack, his family said. He was 87.
When he was sent to the South Pacific in 1943, Matheson was the youngest member of the famed "Black Sheep" squadron under the command of Maj. Greg Boyington — who was later awarded the Medal of Honor, and whose exploits inspired the 1970s TV show "Baa Baa Black Sheep."
On Oct. 17, 1943, Matheson shot down a Japanese Zero in the Solomon Islands. He was hit with shrapnel in his legs but was able to land his damaged F4U Corsair.
By the end of his second Black Sheep tour, Matheson had three confirmed kills and one-and-a-half "probable" kills, his family said. Matheson also confirmed Boyington's final aerial victory before Boyington was shot down.
The Black Sheep brought down 97 Japanese aircraft — 95 of which were fighters — and received a Presidential Unit Citation, said the Marine pilot's son, Scott Matheson.
Out of 51 in the squadron, only 10 are still alive, Scott Matheson said. These include Fred Losch of Island Park, who several times had Matheson as a guest at his ranch on Henry's Lake.
When navigator Thomas Griffin made a visit to Hawai'i for the recent 67th anniversary of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, he did so as one of only nine surviving members of the "Doolittle Raiders."
The Raiders flew 16 B-25 Mitchell bombers off the deck of the aircraft carrier Hornet to attack Japan.
The Black Sheep's Boyington, an ace with the Flying Tigers in China, pulled together unassigned pilots in the South Pacific to form Marine Fighter Squadron 214, or VMF-214.
Scott Matheson said his father didn't talk much about his combat exploits, but he did talk about and have respect for Boyington.
"He was quite a colorful figure and had lots of foibles," Matheson said of Boyington. "He drank heavily and he brawled, but he was an absolute terror in the sky. He was very, very proficient, and these guys loved him. He kept them alive. He taught them how to do it, and what to do."
Matheson said it was a misconception that Boyington was called "Pappy."
"That was something they put together after the war and the TV series," he said. "They called him Gramps or Skipper."
Bruce Matheson later flew night escort for Air Force bombers in an F3D Skyknight in Korea, and had about 400 missions flying Huey helicopters in Vietnam.
He received three Legions of Merit, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, more than 30 Air Medals and a Purple Heart.
He was stationed in Hawai'i in the early 1950s and late 1960s, and he and his wife, Mary Jo, bought a house here. After a 34-year Marine Corps career, Matheson sang with the Barbershop Society, the Honolulu Symphony Chorus and Hawai'i Opera Theater Chorus, and was vice president and treasurer of Windward Realty Inc.
For 25 years, Bruce Matheson ran and later walked the beach in Kailua, notching five miles a day.
"He walked me into the ground," said Scott Matheson. " ... He was fit. He was tough — those Marines."
Scott Matheson said his father didn't want to have any funeral services. Bruce Matheson also is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, and another son, Kerry.
