MONTEZUMA — Keith “Sonny” Surber, 60, of Lake Ponderosa, passed away on Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, at the Montezuma United Methodist Church with Richard McCulley and Phil DeBoef officiating. Burial will be in the Jackson Township cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Montezuma United Methodist Church with the family present at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Harden Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

NEW SHARON — Wayne Fox, 79, of New Sharon, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at the Comfort House in Pella. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the New Sharon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Glesener officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland cemetery in New Sharon with military honors given by members of the Coffin - Miller American Legion Post No. 446. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Monday at the New Sharon United Methodist Church with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Masonic rites will be given at 7 p.m. Monday at the church by members of the Mahaska Lodge No. 336 AF & AM. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella or to the New Sharon Masonic Lodge No. 336. Harden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

OSKALOOSA — Juanita Murphy, 91, of Oskaloosa, and formerly of Tilton, passed away Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Arrangements are pending at the Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer.

NEW SHARON — Ruth Miller, 92, of New Sharon, passed away on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at the New Sharon Nursing and Rehab Center. Arrangements are pending at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon.

THEODORE “TED” SAMPSON
JULY 21, 1920 — AUG. 24, 2006
FLOWER MOUND, TEXAS — Theodore “Ted” Sampson, 86, of Flower Mound, Texas, and a former resident of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, in Lewisville, Texas. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at Liberty Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Old Hall cemetery in Lewisville. The Rev. Dick Webster will officiate the service. The family request memorial contributions made to Liberty Baptist Church Missions, 602 Manco, Lewisville, Texas, 75057.

DAVENPORT — Margaret Elaine Robinson, 56, of Davenport, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at Runge Mortuary with visitation on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery . Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the Union Mills Christian Church with Pastors David Pinkerton and Kerry Lake officiating. Interment will follow at the Union Mills cemetery . Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to the New Sharon Lion’s Club or to the New Sharon Area Historical Society.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 20, at 1:30 p.m. in the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Robert Morris officiating. Burial will be in the Friends cemetery at New Sharon. Visitation will begin Saturday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, and the family will be at the funeral chapel Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. MONTEZUMA — Charles “Beanie” Morrison, 76, of Montezuma, passed away Aug. 18, 2006, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services for Charles “Beanie” Morrison will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma. Friends of Charles “Beanie” Morrison may call at the Watts Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be designated in Charles’ name to the Montezuma Ambulance fund and left at Watts Funeral Home.

OSKALOOSA — Emma L. Hilliard, 93, of Oskaloosa, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Thomas Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in the Forest cemetery , Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Monday after 10 a.m. There will be a Rosary recited at the funeral chapel on Monday at 5:30 p.m., with visitation with the family to follow that service, from 5:50 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.

NEW SHARON — Anna M. Van Genderen, 98, a resident of the New Sharon Nursing and Rehab Center in New Sharon, passed away Friday, June 9, 2006, at the care center. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, in the Forest cemetery at Oskaloosa with the Rev. Cornie Van Wyngarden officiating. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Tuesday after 3 p.m., and the family will be present Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. when a procession will form to move to the cemetery . Memorials may be made to Hospice.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS — Dr. Beverly Sue Garner Silvers Young, 80, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Houston. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches with the Rev. David Persons and the Rev. Dan Danheim celebrating. There will be an informal reception at the Church following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Dr. Young’s honor to the First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches or to Stephen F. Austin University scholarships for students majoring in reading and elementary education.
