Margaret Ebinger
OTTUMWA - Margaret Elaine Ebinger, 78, of No. 63 Schwartz Drive, died March 18, 2002, at Mercy Hospital Iowa City following a short illness.
She was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Lewis, to Ralph L. and Mabel Moreland Jones. She married Dr. Edward Ebinger June 20, 1944, in Atlantic. He died Dec. 30, 1993.
Surviving are four sons, Jeffrey Ebinger of Iowa City, Michael Ebinger of Cedar Rapids, Robert Ebinger of Martinez, Calif., and William Ebinger of Mequon, Wis.; one daughter, Mary Burke of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 12 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sue Babovec officiating. The body has been cremated.
Visitation will follow the memorial service Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to the Ottumwa Public Library or Hospice Inc.

Harold Thompson
FAIRFIELD - Harold Thompson, 67, of Fairfield died March 19, 2002, at the Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield.
He was born March 16, 1935, in Wapello County to Perry D. and Zelda Ware Thompson.
Surviving are a brother, Howard Thompson of Eldon; and two half-sisters, Hila Moore and Hilda Randolph, both of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen Morrow and Hazel Pheriago.
Burial was in the Batavia Cemetery , Batavia.
Wagler Funeral Home, Bloomfield, was in charge of arrangements.
Rita Dennis
OTTUMWA - Rita I. Dennis, 84, formerly of 102 W. Finley, died at 4:10 p.m. March 18, 2002, at the Ridgewood Care Center.
She was born Jan. 22, 1918, in Putnam County, Mo., to Pearl and Lucy Hogg McFarland. She married Paul L. Dennis July 2, 1941. He preceded her in death Jan. 31, 1999.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandy VanNest of Ottumwa; a son, Stephen Dennis of Ottumwa; five grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Herb McFarland of Ottumwa; and a sister, Loeta Randall of Ottumwa.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. today, Friday, March 22, in Reece Funeral Home with the Rev. Kendall Holder officiating. Burial will be in McCormick Cemetery
near Highland Center.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Airman Joseph K. Spangler
May 8, 1981 - May 28, 2000
CARTHAGE, Ill. - Airman Joseph K. Spangler, 19, of Carthage, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
He was born on May 8, 1981, the son of Arthur Dean and Sharon Kay (Grover) Spangler in Macomb, Ill.
Survivors include: his parents of Carthage; two brothers, Wesley Wayland of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Jacob Spangler of Belvidere, Ill.; two sisters, Tammy Thompson and her husband, Greg, of Blandinsville, Ill., and Sarah Spangler of Essex, Vermont; paternal grandmother, Margie Spangler of Fountain Green, Ill.; maternal grandfather, Marlin Burton of Colchester, Ill.; a niece, Kayla Thompson; three uncles; and five aunts.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Arthur Cameron Spangler and his maternal grandmother, Bonnie Burton.
He and his family moved to Carthage in 1994.
Mr. Spangler was an offensive and defensive lineman for the Carthage Blueboy Football State Championship team in 1999. He was also an active member of the high school band.
He graduated from Carthage High School in 1999.
Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force where he served in the security police. His basic training was completed at Lackland A.F. FB in San Antonio, Texas. He was on temporary duty in Kuwait from McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif.
Mr. Spangler was a member of the First Christian Church in Dallas City.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at the Carthage High School Gymnasium in Carthage, with Pastor Randy Nicolas officiating.
Burial will follow in the Spangler Cemetery , rural Carthage.
Visitation is from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Carthage and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Carthage High School Band or Sports Boosters.
Marjorie Warren Jobe Shelton
Aug. 30, 1911 - Aug. 11, 2000
ROSEVILLE, Calif. - Marjorie Warren Jobe Shelton, 88, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, in Roseville, Calif.
She was born on Aug. 30, 1911, in Donnellson. She married Edward B. Jobe. He preceded her in death. She then married Clarence Shelton. He also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: Edward B. Jobe Jr. of Princeton, N.J., Wayne F. Jobe of Yuba City, Calif., Jerilynn Mason of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dennis Jobe of Pea Ridge, Ark., Janis MacBain of Auburn, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, James and Terrance Jobe and a daughter, Janielle Jobe Berry.
She grew up and raised her family in Iowa and later migrated to California, for her golden years.
She was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Private services will be held by family members.
Marvin G. Dains
May 14, 1934 - Sept. 28, 2000
MONTROSE - Marvin G. Dains, 66, of rural Montrose, died at 11:24 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
He was born on May 14, 1934, in Iowa City, the son of James Ray and Minnie Martha Neal Dains. He married Donna Jeanne Robertson on Feb. 6, 1957, in Santa Monica, Calif. She survives.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Capt. Ron Dains (Susan), USAF Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Douglas Dains (Karrie Keester) of Fort Madison; three daughters, Janet Hissem (Keating), Vicki Vermazen (Jim), all of Montrose and Linda Reed (John Hewett) of Fort Madison; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Brown of Orange, Calif., and Donna Wear (Ross) of Carthage, Ill.; four brothers, Jerry Dains of Ontario, Canada, Kenny Dains of Coralville, Ray Dains of Las Vegas, Nev., Dave Dains of Glendale, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Dains served in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate Second Class Petty Officer during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956.
He worked for McDonald Douglas in California and then returned to Iowa and was employed by Chevron Chemical for 25 years and was currently employed by Cryotech Deicing Technology in Fort Madison.
Mr. Dain was a 30 year member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He was a past member of the Isaac Walton League.
Mr. Dains always greatly enjoyed spending time with co-workers, friends and family. He loved crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with John Moles officiating.
Graveside services with full military honors will be at the Charleston Cemetery , Charleston.
Visitation is after 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Thomas William Gawin
Oct. 2, 1957 - Feb. 25, 2001
LONGVIEW, Texas - Thomas William Gawin, 43, died Sunday, February 25, 2001 in Longview.
He was born on October 2, 1957 to Alvin and Germaine Palecek Gawin in Milwaukee, Wis.
Mr. Gawin is survived by his wife, Kristine Gawin; two daughters, Haley and Hannah Gawin, both of Longview; his parents of Milwaukee; sisters and brothers- in-law, Linda and Bill Orth, Janis and Jeff Richardson; a brother, Russ Gawin; brother and sister- in-law, Ron and Colleen Gawin; father-in-law, Phillip Califf and mother-in-law, Kay Califf of Carthage, Ill.; brother-in-law, Steven Califf ; sister-in-law, Holly Hudson; three nieces, and five nephews.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, an avid golfer, played guitar and enjoyed hunting. His greatest joy was his family.
Funeral services were today at the First Methodist Church, 400 North Fredonia, Longview, with the Rev. Jim Welch officiating.
The family requests no special visitation at the funeral home.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Welch Funeral Home, 210 South Green Street, Longview.
