Ruth Carey
CHARITON -- Ruth L. Carey, 90, of Chariton died July 30, 2002, at Chariton Nursing and Rehab.
She was born July 23, 1912, in Ames to Bert Carr and Clara Bell. She married Dwight Carey. He preceded her in death.
She lived in Ames until moving to Chariton in 1989. She worked for a short time at Iowa State.
Surviving are a son, Bill L. Ross Jr. of Russell; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gaylen Carr of Ames.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today (Friday) at Fielding Funeral Home, Chariton. Burial will be at Russell Cemetery , Russell.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. today (Friday) in the funeral home.
Kathleen Campbell
OTTUMWA -- Kathleen Cecelia Bostwick Campbell, 77, of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Ottumwa, died 2:14 p.m. April 20,2003, at I.H.S. of Keller, Keller, Texas.
She was born July 4, 1925 in Yonkers, N.Y. to Howard and Mary White Bostwick. She married Richard E. Campbell June 10, 1944 in Yonkers, N.Y. while he was still in the military. He preceded her in death March 2, 1996.
They were transferred to Calif. for a year, and then moved to Kansas City, Kan., due to Richard's employment with Burlington Railroad and then moved to Ottumwa in 1956. She had lived in Texas for the last four years. She owned and operated the Toy Shoppe in 1968 on Church Street. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, Order of Eastern Star #112, Burlington Veterans Association Auxiliary, A.A.R.P., was past president of a church circle at First Baptist Church, past president of Ottumwa Animal Shelter, and volunteered many years at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in the gift shop.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Bradley of Fort Worth, Texas and Sheree Bern of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Scott Campbell and two brothers Eugene and Thomas Bostwick.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral home with Rev. Dale Gray officiating, Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home with the family present one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Memorials may be made to the Animal Relief Shelter.
Ralph Boone
BLAKESBURG -- Ralph Kenneth Boone, 91, of Blakesburg, died at 6:35 a.m. Dec. 7, 2002, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born Feb. 8, 1911, near Batavia to William H. and Ada Isabel Boon Boon. He married Margery Elma Fisher Aug. 20, 1933. She preceded him in death March 28, 2001.
He was a 1929 graduate of Blakesburg High School. He had lived on the same farm north of Blakesburg since 1919. A forward-looking farmer, he was one of the first in Wapello County to embrace the soil conservation practices of contour farming and terraces; also among the first to use commercial fertilizer and hybrid seed corn. In addition to farming, he was a salesman, selling home-grown produce door to door on a weekly route in Ottumwa for approximately 12 years, and later had a milk route in Blakesburg for several years. He sold seed corn and fertilizer for 30 years, and drove a school bus and was custodian for Blakesburg schools for approximately 15 years. A charter member and past president of the Blakesburg Lions Club, he received the Warren Coleman Honorary Award for dedicated service in Lionism. He was an active member of the Iowa Farmers Union for many years, serving in many capacities including more than 20 years as Wapello County president and several years on the Farmers Union state board. He received the Iowa Farmers Union Lifetime Service Award in 1989. He was an active member of the Blakesburg Christian Church most of his life and served many years in various capacities on the church board, as Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent.
Surviving are two daughters, Helen Hannan of Blakesburg and Irene Floreth of Longmont, Colo.; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Ralph Glen Boone; two brothers, Lee and Ross; an infant sister; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blakesburg Christian Church with the Rev. Charles Conger officiating. Burial will be at Blakesburg Cemetery.
Open visitation begins at 9 a.m. today (Monday) at Knedler Funeral Home, Blakesburg.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.. today (Monday) at Knedler Funeral Home, Blakesburg.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Blakesburg Development Corp., Blakesburg Fire Department, Blakesburg Ambulance or Blakesburg Christian Church.
Jeanette Bloom
OTTUMWA -- Jeanette K. Bloom, 91, formerly of 1328 Mowery Ave., died 3:19 p.m. Dec. 16, 2002, at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was born Nov. 28, 1911, in Ottumwa to Riley and Anna Gortner Kuhn. She married Charles A. Bloom Sept. 27, 1941. He preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1992.
A resident of Ottumwa all of her life, she was affiliated with Bloom Brothers Ready Mix and retired from Ideal Ready Mix.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Berrier, and an infant brother, Frances Kuhn.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Kuhn officiating. Burial will be at the Ottumwa Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Leonard Barber
OSKALOOSA -- Leonard E. Barber, 90, of Oskaloosa died Jan. 29, 2003, at Mahaska Hospital, Oskaloosa.
He was born Jan.15, 1913 to Clara Ellen Hakeman and Thomas Kingsley Barber at Dike. He married Lillian Vorba April 29, 1946 at Charles City. She preceded him in death Jan. 24, 1974. He married Ada "Marie" Quick (Hix) April 12, 1975. She preceded him in death Jan. 11, 1988. He married Gwenn Raber Fuller May 11, 1991.
He was a 1930 graduate of Hartwick High School, Hartwick. He attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) for a year and graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College. He had worked for Stokely Lumber Company, and Mathew Lumber Co., Oskaloosa retiring after 30 years. He served in the United States Army 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Oskaloosa and active as Head Usher, President of Methodist Men, a member of the Board of Trustees, the Official Board, the Board of Missions and the Nominating Committee. He also served as President of the Youth Center at the YMCA; and secretary of the Y-men's Club, and volunteered for the Oskaloosa Ecumenical Cupboard.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Central United Methodist Church, Oskaloosa with Rev. Robert Dean officiating. Interment will be at Forest Cemetery , Oskaloosa with Military honors by the Harry L. Anderson Post #34 of the American Legion & the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2237.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today (Friday) at Garland-VanArkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Oskaloosa Ecumenical Cupboard.
Stacey Baker
OTTUMWA -- Stacey L. Baker, 33, of 206 N. Sheridan, Ottumwa, died April 4, 2003, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born Sept. 19, 1969, in Indianapolis, Ind., daughter of Stephen and Ethel Cline Davis. She married Christopher Baker on Feb. 14, 2001, in Ottumwa.
She was a member of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple and enjoyed home decorating and poetry.
Surviving are her husband; parents; two daughters, Katlyn and Jessica Hite of Ottumwa; one brother, Scott Cline; and two sisters, Christine Howe and Diana Smith.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ottumwa Baptist Temple with the Rev. Randy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today at Shrine of Memories Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Eldred L. Adkins
NEW SHARON -- Eldred L. Adkins, 69, of rural Searsboro died Jan. 29, 2003, at his home from injuries sustained in a farming accident.
He was born Sept. 29, 1933 at Mahaska County to Gasper and Clara Minner Adkins. He married Junella Valster May 19, 1956 at Nashua.
He attended Star Country School and New Sharon High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. They lived in Barnes City briefly before settling on their farm near Searsboro. He had previously attended the Searsboro Friends Church and was a member of the New Sharon Christian Church where he served on the Elders Board and also as a Deacon. He was the recipient of the 1999 Region 7 and District Conservation Awards.
He is survived by his wife; son, John Adkins of Montezuma; two daughters, Connie Brown of New Sharon and Debra Johnson of Grinnell; nine grandchildren; and sister, Velma Adkins of New Sharon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the New Sharon Christian Church with Pastor Phil DeBoef officiating. Interment will be at Barnes City Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after noon today (Friday) at Harden Funeral Home, New Sharon with the family present 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the New Sharon Christian Church.
CharLee Shepherd
OTTUMWA - CharLee Samantha Shepherd, 21 months, of 819 E. Mary St. died Aug. 27, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 12, 2000, in Ottumwa to Richard and Darcy Johnson Shepherd.
Surviving are her parents; a brother, Ricky at home; a sister, Elizabeth at home; grandparents, Bernice Shepherd of Ottumwa, Rebecca White of New Sharon and Sam Johnson of Ottumwa; great-grandmothers, Bonnie Guler of New Sharon and Donna Johnson of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Charles Shepherd, and great-grandparents, Bill Guler, Edgar Johnson, Charles and Pearl Shepherd, and Livingston and Elizabeth Alexander.
Her body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery.
