Adelaide Larson
NORA SPRINGS — Adelaide Leonora Wamstad Larson, 87, of Nora Springs, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2005) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Adelaide Leonora Wamstad Larson was born Jan. 5, 1918, to Milton and Mina (Field) Wamstad in Mitchell County, Iowa.
She attended rural schools in Mitchell County, Nora Springs High School, Waldorf College,and the University of Northern Iowa.
She was a lifelong member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married.
Adelaide was a teacher in the Rake and Nora Springs-Rock Falls schools.
She was married to Vernon C. Larson on June 10, 1939. This union was blessed with seven children.
Her hobbies were sewing, crafts, hardanger and cross stitchembroidery.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Ave. in Osage, with the Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour before services at the church.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis Larson and wife, Cheryl, of Tucson, Ariz., and Joel Larson and wife, Jeannine, of Nora Springs; three daughters, Carole Sours and husband, Roy, of Panora, Ellen White and husband, Stuart, of Garland, Texas, and Susan Larson of St. Charles, Ill.; eight grandchildren: Scott Larson, Kristine Litten, Steven Larson and Kathryn Larson; Julie Bosch and Jody Sours; Jared White and Mark White; eight great-grandchildren, Natalie and Joshua Litten; Seth Larson; Riley and Dylan Bosch; Madison Brown, Melinda and Mason White.
She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Vernon, and two sons, David and Jerome Larson.

NORTHWOOD — Irving Flatness, 86, of Northwood, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery , Carpenter.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 S., Northwood.

Marjorie E. Harlson
Thompson — Marjorie E. Harlson, 81, of Thompson, died Monday (Jan. 24, 2005) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson with the Rev. Mark Decker officiating.
Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery
in Thompson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Winter Funeral Home, 245 Harrison St. in Thompson, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

John F. Havel
MASON CITY — John F. Havel, 78, of 14 Clover Lane, died Monday (Jan. 24, 2005) at his home.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave. in Mason City, with the Rev. Jon M. Seda and the Rev. Greg Havel officiating. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery
in Calmar, where military honors will be conducted by members of Hoverson Giesen American Legion Post No. 266 of Calmar.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with a Scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m. There will be further visitation one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the church.

John Francis Havel was born May 28, 1926, at Montgomery, Minn., a son of John J. and Agnes (Barloon) Havel.
He was united in marriage to Alice E. Riedel on Aug. 17, 1950, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton, Kan.
He attended Calmar Schools and was a graduate of Calmar High School.
John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
John worked for the Chicago and North Western railroad for 37 years. He served as the depot agent at Stewartville, Minn., and the assistant roadmaster at Rochester before moving to Mason City in 1978 where he worked as the roadmaster, retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed bowling league with his railroad friends, and especially golfing, fishing and tending his vegetable garden.
John volunteered assisting senior citizens prepare their tax returns.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Holy Family Men's Club, and served as an usher and money counter.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Mason City; a daughter, Debbie Williams, of St. Michael, Minn.; a son, the Rev. Greg Havel, of Stewartville, Minn.; two grandchildren, Brian (Alicia) Williams, of Andover, Minn., and Jennifer Williams of St. Michael, Minn.; a great-grandson, Brock Williams, and two brothers, Arnold (Helen) Havel and Richard (Caroline) Havel, both of Calmar, Iowa.
John was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Pearl E. Hertzke
LAKOTA — Pearl E. Hertzke, 89, of Lakota, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2005) at the Lutz Wing Nursing Home in Fairmont, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota with Rev. Marino Melstead officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery
in Lakota.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center and one hour prior to the services at the church Friday morning.

Ryleigh Marie Steenblock
ALEXANDER — Ryleigh Marie Steenblock, stillborn daughter of Rusty and Crystal (Asmus) Steenblock, of Alexander, Iowa, was delivered Monday (Jan. 24, 2005) at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.

Mary Ann Erb
CHARLES CITY — Mary Ann Erb, 69, of Charles City, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at her home.
A funeral Mass for Mary Ann will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Carl Ries and Monsignor Stanley Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be at a later date at Saint Mary’s Cemetery
in Roseville.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. today where there will be a Celebration of Life service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the Mass.
Mary Ann Ackermann Erb was born on July 31, 1939, in Saint Paul, Minn., the daughter of Karl and Mary (Ettel) Ackermann. She graduated from Saint Agnes High School in Saint Paul, Saint Catherine’s College majoring in math and German, and then attended the University of
Minnesota where she received her master’s degree in German. Mary Ann also received a Fulbright Scholarship and attended the University of Mainz in Germany.
On August 16, 1969, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Jim Erb in Trier, Germany. Over the years, Mary Ann was a teacher of math and German in both the United States and Germany. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, served on the Parish Council and Spiritual Life Committee. Mary Ann also was a member of the American Association of University Women where she held offices in the Charles City branch and the state organization, Call to Action, City Improvement Association, P.E.O., Charles City Women’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary and the Democratic Party. She worked on the Women’s Appointment Coalition, led two student groups in the Experiment in International Living Program, assisted with the high school GAPP program including co-leading several student groups to Germany; she translated a number of German texts to English for a recently published book.
Family, friends and community were extremely important to Mary Ann. She always kept the family flame burning brightly and will be remembered for always inspiring everyone to do better. Family trips were special times and she was the chief planner and photographer. Mary Ann was also the “glue” for a vast number of friends such as The J’s, Neighbors Card Club, the Global Group, Birthday Group, Yak and Snack, Newcomers Bridge Group and the Ya-Ya’s. When it came to community issues she was a life long learner who never stopped asking questions. This led her to become involved in many improvement efforts. She was passionate about a wide variety of issues and activities.
Living family members include her husband, Jim Erb, of Charles City; three children, Elizabeth (Scott) Firmstone of South Elgin, Ill., Paul (Michele) Erb of White Plains, N.Y., and Joe Erb of Bellingham, Wash.; three grandchildren, Lucas, Maxwell and Charles Firmstone; three brothers, Anthony Ackermann, of Saint Paul, Minn., Karl (Gladys) Ackermann of Misawa, Japan and Fred (Paula) Ackermann of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and a sister, Monica Ackermann, of Bellingham, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Immaculate Conception Educational Development Fund, Family YMCA, Charles City Arts Center, TLC Learning Center, Jordan River Community Kitchen and the Labyrinth Memorial in care of the Charles City Arts Center.
