CECIL D. PETER

SHEFFIELD - Cecil Darrell Peter, 63, of Sheffield, died Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, from complications of Pick's Disease.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Sheffield, with the Rev. Remigio Panlaqui officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery , Sheffield.

Visitation was held from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Cecil Darrell Peter was born Nov. 30, 1936, in Sheffield, the son of Lavine and Doris (Thomas) Peter. He attended Hollingsworth country school until fourth grade and then attended Sheffield Public School, graduating in 1954. After graduation, he began farming with his father.

On Dec. 4, 1955, he married Mary Anderegg at Sheffield. They made their home in rural Sheffield, moving to the home farm in June of 1966.

Farming was his occupation of choice. In July 1985, he became a seed sales representative for Pioneer Hi-Bred International, continuing until 1994 when his illness forced his retirement. In June 1998, he entered the Hampton Health Care Center where he resided until his death.

He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Sheffield, serving on many boards and committees. He served on the Sheffield-Chapin School Board and Sheffield Farmers Cooperative Board of Directors and was active in the Sheffield Lions Club. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, not only playing them himself, but also watching his children and grandchildren participate through the years. Slo-pitch softball, bowling, horseshoes, Saturday afternoon basketball, golf and tennis were just a few of the things he enjoyed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Mary, of Sheffield; four children, Doug and his wife, Karla, of Sheffield, Julie and her husband, Chuck Wiemann, of Des Moines, Gary and his wife, Suzanne, of Marion, and Mary Jo and her husband, Brad Koenigsberg, of Sheffield; one sister, Marlys and her husband, Nate Pals, of Meservey; 14 grandchildren, Angie, Stacie, Haylie, Brittney, Tanner, Nicole, Chris, Jillian, Chelsea, Whitney, Bob, Mickenzie, Rachael and Peter; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

TOM BERREGAARD

COULTER - Tom Berregaard, 84, of 1161 Fourth St., Coulter, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

FRANKLIN D. MULLEN

MARBLE ROCK - Funeral services for Franklin D. Mullen, 57, of 697 N. Barrington Rd, Springdale, Ark., formerly of Marble Rock, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene with burial in the Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale, Ark.

Local visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene and will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

Franklin D. Mullen was born Dec. 8, 1942 in Swaledale, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, a son of Abraham Leonard and Bessie Margaret (Woodside) Mullen and died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Ark. of cancer.

He received his education in the rural schools in Ulster Township, Floyd County and as a young man started working for Dale Vanderlan Auto Salvage in Charles City. He served in the United States Army and following his discharge he lived in Des Moines delivering Highland Potato Chips.

He later lived in Arizona for a short time before moving to Arkansas. He was last employed as a certified service technician for Richard Mayes Auto in Fayetteville, Ark.

He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Weyher on Feb. 14, 1976.

Frank was a professional Bass Fisherman having won the Poor Boy Bass Tournament in 1975. He was a member of several Bass Clubs. He was a member of the Brush Creek Baptist Church in Tontitown, Ark.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou, of Springdale, Ark.; one son, Brian Weyher, of Fruitland, Wash.; one daughter, Barbara Thayer, of Rogers, Ark.; his mother, Bessie Mullen, of Greene; two sisters and their spouses, Mary Ann and Cecil Myers, of Greene and Betty Jean and James Larsen, of Wapello; one brother, Dan and his wife, Carolyn Mullen, of Greene.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Edward.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Franklin D. Mullen Memorial Fund in care of the family.

ELNA G. NASH

CHARLES CITY - Elna G. (Mrs. Raymond) Nash, 87, formerly of 605 Eighth Ave., died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A memorial funeral service will be held at a later date in the spring. Inurnment will also be in the spring at the Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

CLIFFORD E. DECKER

BUFFALO CENTER - Clifford E. Decker, 67, of Buffalo Center, died Monday (Jan. 17, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Paul Aldrich officiating. Burial will be in Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Winter Funeral Home.

FRIEDA M. THORSON

MASON CITY - Frieda M. Thorson, 92, of Mason City, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at the Manly Care Center in Manly.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredricksburg.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

ELSIE ABBAS

KANAWHA - Elsie Abbas, 88, of Kanawha, died Monday (Jan. 17, 2000) at the North Care Center in Humboldt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha, with the Rev. G. David Daley officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery in Kanawha.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ewing Dugger Funeral Home in Kanawha.

DENNIS W. WINTERS

ROCKFORD - Dennis W. Winters, 41, of Rockford, died Sunday (Jan. 16, 2000) at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 West Main Ave., Rockford, with the Rev. William Green, retired United Methodist Minister, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home in Rockford and one hour prior to services on Thursday.

ALFRED YOUNG

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alfred Young, 65, of St. Paul, Minn., formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderson Funeral Home, 1401 Arcade Ave., St. Paul, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the Anderson Funeral Home. There will be a reception at 775 East Maryland, St. Paul, Minn.

Alfred was born Nov. 23, 1934 to Hazel and Henry Young in Mason City. He went to school and grew up in Mason City. His church was the Salvation Army.

He worked for several cafes and night clubs and later the Sugar Beet Plant in Mason City.

In June of 1955, he married Mildred Miller in Mason City. They divorced in 1974.

He is survived by sisters and brothers, Thelma Dickson, Marvin Young, Jeanette Lindner, Alvin Young and Eva Craig; and six children, Ellen Andersen, Sharon Wilde, Micheal Young, Ardella Young, Danny Young and David Young and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Ruth Young.
