EMMA M. PETERSON

FOREST CITY - Emma M. Peterson, 96, died Monday (Aug. 14, 2000) at Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Craig Steimel officiating. Burial will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning and continue until the time of the service at the church. Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, is in charge of arrangements.

Emma M. Peterson was born on the family farm in Ellington Township, Hancock County, on Nov. 16, 1903, the daughter of Karl and Margaret (Berger) Yineman. She attended rural school at Ellington School No. 1 near her home. Her first job was as a telephone operator in Forest City.

She married Jack L. Peterson on Nov. 21, 1927, in Forest City. The couple lived in many different communities all over the Midwest during the time Jack was doing highway construction. For a short time Jack was the Standard Oil tank operator in Crystal Lake.

In 1932 the couple moved to Forest City and built the Standard Oil Station and five travelers overnight cabins. Emma did all the laundry and cleaning for the business, as well as washing cars and caring for her own family.

Emma was a marvelous cook and a dedicated mother and wife. She was a long-time member of St. James Catholic Church in Forest City.

Jack Sr. died on June 12, 1990. Emma continued living at home until entering the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City on March 22, 2000. She died on Aug. 14 at the age of 96.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jack and Ruth Ann Peterson of Forest City and Mary and Carroll Johnson of Buffalo Center; three grandchildren, David Peterson, Mike Johnson and Lisa Patterson; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Macy.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Randall Johnson; two brothers, Albert and Sylvester Berger; and a sister, Anna Carse.

HAZEL L. THRONE

EMMONS, Minn. - Hazel L. Throne, 88, formerly of Emmons, Minn., died Monday (Aug. 14, 2000) at the Oneota River View Care Center in Decorah.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills.

HAZEL LEORA MEYER

FLOYD - Hazel Leora Meyer, 89, of Floyd, died Monday (Aug. 14, 2000) in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd, with the Rev. Paul Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City. There will be additional visitaiton from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home and for an hour prior to services at the church.

R. B. WILKIN JR.

TITONKA - R. B. "Burt" Wilkin Jr., 80, of Titonka, died Friday (Aug. 11, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Titonka. Burial will be in South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart.

There will be no visitation.

ROBERT J. WARD

WATERLOO - Robert J. Ward, 85, of 1420 Byron Ave., formerly of Lake Mills, died Saturday (Aug. 12, 2000) at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, from complications following a stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterloo, with the Rev. Thomas Isaacson officiating. Committal services will be held at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Salem Cemetery in Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, 1519 W. Fourth St. in Waterloo.

Robert J. Ward was born March 19, 1915 in Sheffield, the son of Ralph and Mary (Jensen) Ward. He attended school in Sheffield and Mason City. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Alice N. Gullickson on Jan. 21, 1935 in Lake Mills. She died on March 20, 2000.

Robert worked as manager of Trade Home Shoe Sales and at Park Paint & Glass in Waterloo, then as comptroller and general manager at Martin Brothers Distributing in Waterloo. After retirement he also worked at DeLorbe's Clothiers and Rasmussen Furniture.

He was a founder and former board member of the Cedar Valley Food Bank.

Robert is survived by one son, James K. Ward, of Geneseo; one daughter, Jane P. Ward, of Cloquet, Minn.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Wildebor, of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Lorraine Kahl; and sister, Betty, in infancy.

Memorials may be given to the Cedar Valley Food Bank.

ELSIE PATTERSON

WEBSTER CITY - Elsie Patterson, 88, of Webster City, died Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Kem officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City and until 12:45 p.m. Friday.

MAYNARD P. KAHL

JOICE - Maynard P. Kahl, 77, of Joice, died Sunday (Dec. 3, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City of Cancer.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in Joice.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Maynard P. Kahl Memorial Fund.

TILLIE G. KRIZ

GARNER - Tillie Kriz, 93, of Garner, died Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at Concord Care Center in Garner.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Michael Schueller officiating. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Cedar Falls.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner with a Rosary Society rosary at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Tillie Georgia Kriz, the daughter of Mathew and Mary (Shevlik) Pavel, was born Sept. 14, 1907, at Abie, Neb. On Jan. 22, 1934, she was married to Francis George Kriz at Abie. They farmed near Brainard, Neb., until 1948 when they moved to Tapoi, Minn., where they continued farming

In 1965 they moved to Cedar Falls where they both worked at the American Martyrs Retreat House until 1977 when Francis passed away. Tillie moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner and lived there until she entered Concord Care Center in 1992.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing cards and especially baking her "kolaches" for Christmas.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Rosary Society.

Tillie is survived by her two children, Lucille Klesel and her husband, Robert, of Garner, and Gene Kriz and his wife, Becky, of Kimberly, Wis.; four grandchildren, Michael Klesel and his wife, Traci and their two children, Colter and Nathan, David Klesel and his wife, Liz, and their two children, Melissa and Shannon, Julianne Klesel of Omaha, Neb. and Barrett Kriz and his daughter, Zoe; a brother, Joe Pavel and his wife, Marie, of Dodge, Neb.; a sister, Harriet Ruzicka of North Bend, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Beulah Pavel of Andnover, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Kriz; her parents; four brothers, Otto, Clarence, Ernest and George Pavel; and two sisters, Eleanora and Annie Pavel.

ANNA LOUISE OSTEN

NORTHWOOD - Anna Louise Osten, 87, of Northwood, died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2000) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Northwood United Methodist Church in Northwood, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in Northwood, with a Northern Light Chapter of the Eastern Star service at 7 p.m.
