Wilma L. Crosson, age 98, of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn. Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 22, 2012, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, December 21, 2012 at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two children, David Crosson and wife Natalie Hala of San Francisco, CA, and Carolyn Rathjen and husband Roger of Williamsburg; five grandchildren, Randy Rhinehart of Milton, FL, Kyle (Jessica) Rhinehart of West Des Moines, Trevor (Kris) Crosson of Des Moines, Elizabeth (Robert) Davis of Minneapolis, MN, and Jacob Crosson of Atlanta, GA; and seven great-grandchildren, Cain, Mac, Macie and Rian Crosson, Emerson and Jasper Davis, and Corbin Crosson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack P. Crosson, and a sister Glenna Blier.
Wilma Louise Dye was born September 14, 1914, in Eddyville, Iowa, the daughter of Barney and Maude Johnson Dye. She and Jack were born a week apart, graduated together form Eddyville High School in 1932 and were married on New Year’s Eve 1933. Their honeymoon consisted of borrowing a car and driving to Oskaloosa to see the movie, “Meet the Baron.” In 1941, Wilma and Jack moved to Des Moines, where he attended pharmacy school at Drake University. She worked at the munitions plant in Ankeny during World War II. After the war, both Jack and Wilma worked at Matthews Drug Store in Grinnell. From 1945 through 1988 Jack and Wilma formed an inseparable team in operating Crosson Rexall Drug in Brooklyn. While Jack filled prescriptions, Wilma was always out front, welcoming customers, serving sodas and probably distributing a few opinions. Together, Wilma and Jack Crosson contributed leadership and resources to countless civic causes. Wilma was a 60-year member of Eastern Star.
Although she lived with Alzheimer’s for many of her final years, her eyes always lit up and a smile spread when visited by her great-grandchildren. Her love for her family and dedication to her community will be missed.
Donald L. Schumacher, age 91 of Marengo, Iowa, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center, in Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 20, 2012, First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Rev. Diane Miller officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, December 19, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Donald is survived by his wife, Margaret; two sons, Donald “Ray” (Carol) and Doug (Kari); three daughters, Sheryl Semler (Gordon), Ruth Fiser (Delbert) and Susan Carlson (Daniel); nine grandchildren, Jason Semler, Nathan Fiser, Jon Fiser, Amelia Schumacher, Harley Schumacher, Amy Roach, April Arp, Katelyn Wolter and Kameryn Warren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Verla Greene. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Richard, Carl, Lloyd and Eldon.
Donald Lester Schumacher was born September 19, 1921 in rural Marengo, Iowa, the son of Carl W. and Ruth Cooperider Schumacher. He attended the Iowa County schools, and worked alongside his parents on the farm. Donald was united in marriage to Margaret Wesley on June 5, 1955. He was employed with Pioneer Seed for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marengo for over 50 years. Donald enjoyed taking walks, camping, fishing, reading, and joining his friends for daily coffee. He was an Iowa Women’s Basketball fan and had been to every auditorium in the Big 10. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David R. Cisna, age 74 of Marengo, Iowa, died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
David is survived by his wife Linda; a daughter Christy Ehrle (Gary) of Humboldt, Iowa, a son Craig Cisna (fiancee Heather Link) of Warrensburg, MO; two step-daughters, Cindy Becker (fiance Dan Sholte) of San Antonio, TX, and Sherry Wille (Kevin) of Marengo; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
David Roger Cisna was born January 24, 1938 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Roger D. Cisna and Vera C. Borchers. He graduated from West High School, Waterloo, in 1956. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years. David was employed as a gas station attendant and later worked as a machine operator at a rock quarry. He married Linda Flack Fulmer on May 31, 2008 at Christ United Methodist Church in Belle Plaine, Iowa. The couple resided in Marengo. David enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye games and car races. He liked to attend Bible study group, play bingo, watching television, and just visit with his family and friends. In earlier years, he enjoyed swimming, water-skiing and bowling.
Wayne T. “Tom” Stevens, age 72, of Cedar Rapids, IA died Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha from complications of metastatic colon cancer. Graveside Services: 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Calvary Cemetery, Marengo with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Tom is survived by two sons Brett and Brian Stevens, both of AZ; four grandchildren Derik, Jacob, Timothy Stevens and Crystal Payne, all of Arizona; three brothers, Dave of Marengo, Donald (Janet) of Cedar Rapids, and Gary (Judy) of Cedar Rapids; six sisters Pat Seye (Bob) of Victor, Marcella Hilton of Cedar Rapids, Loretta Booth (John) of Sheboygan, WI, Mary Mumm of Marengo, Janet Fish (Kenny) of Morehead City, NC, and Beverly Neswold (Larry) of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Diane Stevens of Fairfax and Gelene Stevens of Ankeny, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Leroy, Laverne and Bernard
Wayne Thomas Stevens was born May 14, 1940 in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Ben and Florence Minnaert Stevens. He graduated from Conroy High School in 1958. Tom worked at Wilson’s Meat Packing for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed watching Kansas City Chiefs football. Tom was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He was a gentle, plain man with a dry sense of humor. He was always good for a laugh and willing to help. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Carroll M. “Buck” McKusker, age 91 of Marengo, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at his home. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 8, 2012, First United Methodist Church, Marengo, with Doug Dauenbaugh officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 3:30 until 7:30 P.M., Friday, December 7, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Carroll is survived by his children, Joann Cuppy (Gayle) of Kalona, Jim (Donna) of Burlington, WI, Julie Phillips (Dave) of Marengo, Jeff (Lori) of Mead, CO, and Jerry of Marengo; fourteen grandchildren, Steve Cuppy (Jan), Stacy Pfister (Mike), Brian Cuppy (Jeanette), Heather Mohr (Dustin), Kevin McKusker (Tommii), Cari Kriegel (Stoney), Karen McKusker, Krystal McKusker Richter (Pete), Valerie Ahlouche (Chak), Kyle McKusker, Jacob McKusker, Gabby Kovar (Stan), Karly McKusker, and Jennifer McKusker; thirteen great-grandchildren, Hannah, Cole, and Rhet Pfister, Rebecca, Jacob, and Ben Cuppy, Hailey and Kaitlyn Rohm, Dakota, Jayden, and Brooklyn Mohr, and Taytin and Amelia McKusker. Also surviving are his siblings, Ardis VanHamme of Brooklyn, Lois Dietrich of Marengo, and Bill McKusker of Marengo; sisters-in-law, Edna Shepherd of Williamsburg, Deloris Schmidt of Deep River and brother-in-law, Russell Tuttle (Mary) of Malcom.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fern in 2009, a brother Jack, and a sister Noreen Miller.
Carroll Milan McKusker was born January 24, 1921 in Deep River, Iowa, the son of John Milo and Vera Jean Cooperider McKusker. He received his education in the Honey Creek schools and Carson High School graduating in 1938. Carroll served in the U.S. Army in 1945-46 stationed in Berlin. He married Fern Tuttle on February 10, 1947 at Lancaster, MO. Carroll was a farmer in the Marengo area for many years. He also worked as an electrician. In his free time he enjoyed camping, and he also was a coin collector. Carroll was a member of the Iowa County Historical Society, the Iowa River Good Sam Club, the Marengo Coffee Club, the Marengo American Legion Post #76 and the Koszta United Methodist Church.
Eunice Freda Walton, age 100, of Marengo, Iowa passed away peacefully Friday, November 30, 2012 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 5, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Diane Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Keota Cemetery, Keota, Iowa. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, Rose Haven Nursing Home or Hospice of Compassus, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Walton (Peggy), Marengo, a grandson, Jeffrey Walton (Kathy), Belvidere, IL, two granddaughters, Debra Quinlan (Daniel), Marengo and Emily Walton, Cedar Falls. She is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Jeana Quinlan, and three great-grandsons, Aidan Quinlan, Evan and Elliot Walton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a 2 1/2 year old son, Donald Carl, a brother, Fred and two sisters Thelma Walton-Linder and Glova Schultz.
Eunice Freda Bower Walton was born July 22, 1912 near Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Howard Voorhees Bower and Nellie Grace Stamp Bower. She graduated from Keota High School, Keota, Iowa in 1930 and attended Iowa State Teacher’s College, Cedar Falls, earning a certificate to teach. She taught country school in rural Keota, until she was married. On December 26, 1933, she married Carl Henry Walton at the Lutheran parsonage in Washington, Iowa. The couple farmed for many years in Washington County before relocating to Marengo, Iowa in 1996. Carl passed away August 12, 1998 and Eunice later made her home at Rose Haven in 2004. Eunice was a homemaker and devoted mother to two sons. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, reading books, cooking, and entertaining in her home.
The family would like to thank Rose Haven Nursing Home and Hospice of Compassus for their loving care. We will forever be grateful.
Roy R. Moser, age 79 of Amana, Iowa, died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at his home. Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Kristie Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Roy is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Maury (Mary) of Amana and Galen (Linda) of Marengo; three grandchildren, Tiffany Kinzenbaw (Drew) of Urbana, Sarah Moser of Amana, and Tyler Moser of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roy Rudolph Moser was born October 1, 1933 in Amana, Iowa, the son of Rudolph George and Lina Schaedlich Moser. He received his education in the Amana Schools, graduating from Amana High School in 1951. Roy went on to graduate from Iowa State University in 1955 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, 1956-58, stationed in Korea. He was united in marriage with Helen Mae Sontag on October 17, 1959 at the Amana Church in Amana, Iowa. Roy was employed for many years at the Amana Farms, retiring as manager. He currently delivered the Amana Society Rumpost (Amana Society interoffice mail).
Roy spent his time fishing, trapping, horseshoe pitching, woodworking and gardening. He also raised chinchillas. Roy was a member of the Amana Church Society, the Amana Society, of which he was a past board member, and the Adelante Fraternity. He also was past president of Amana Welfare Association.
Milton L. Gauger, age 78 of Marengo, died peacefully Tuesday evening, November 20, 2012 at Rose Haven Nursing Home under the care of Essence of Life Hospice. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 24, 2012, First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev. James Bringman and Rev. Grant Speece officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 3 to 7 P.M. Friday, November 23, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Milton is survived by his wife Judith; his son Jeffrey (Susan) of Montrose, MI, his daughter, Vicki Gauger (Tony Vernon) of Bellevue, NE; three grandchildren, Steven Gauger (Lindsay), Scott Gauger and Kelsey Gauger; a great-grandson Gavin Milton Gauger; and a sister Ruth Pringle of Allen, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Norma Velky.
Milton Leonard Gauger was born August 13, 1934 in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Edith Henry Gauger. He received his education in the Rockford, Elkader and Cedar Rapids schools, graduating from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids with the Class of 1952. He served in the U.S. Army, and later with the Army Reserves. Milton was employed at Amana Refrigeration for several years in quality control. Milton worked for Upmier Stables, Sugar Bottom Stables and later leased and trained horses at Indian Creek Stables, Hilltop Stables and Rockwood Farms in Cedar Rapids. In 1979, he purchased Iowa Valley Stables at Marengo from Dr. C.F. Watts, where he raised and trained horses for over 30 years. Milton and Judith Rathjen were united in marriage on July 1, 1984 at Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo.
Milton was a member of the Iowa Horse Show Association, the Iowa American Saddlebred Association, the American Saddlebred Horse Association, and the United Professional Horsemen’s Association. In 1994 he was inducted into the Iowa Horsemen’s Hall of Fame.
