Ryan Scott Rotter, age 45 of High Amana, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at his home. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 2, 2011, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Jon Childers officiating. Burial will be in the Amana Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Middle Amana Church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Ryan is survived by his wife Shannon; his children Christopher and Parker at home, Kyle of Kuwait, Rebecca Nemitz of Virginia and Brett of South Portland, Maine; and two grandchildren. Also surviving are his parents Russell and Phyllis Rotter of Amana; his brother Rob Rotter of Williamsburg; and several uncles, aunts, a niece and nephew, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Ryan Scott Rotter was born May 18, 1966 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Russell and Phyllis Leichsenring Rotter. He graduated from Amana High School in 1984. Ryan served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 10 years, as part of the search and rescue teams and drug enforcement. After his discharge from the military, Ryan worked for TMC Trucking, and the Amana Furniture Shop. After receiving his certification in environmental management from Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids, he worked for the Benton County Conservation Commission. Ryan married Shannon Winegarden on January 29, 2001 in Marengo. Ryan loved old Farmall tractors, and the outdoors. He enjoyed sports, gardening, and barbequeing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with Chris and Parker and attending their sporting events.
Gerald L. Mullnix, age 74 of Williamsburg, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from complications of diabetes. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 29, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg, with Rev. Richard A. Meyer officiating. Burial will be in East York Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. Visitation: 3 to 7 P.M. Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Gerald is survived by his wife Nancy; three sons, Kenneth (Patti) of Williamsburg and Michael (Joanne White) of Parnell, and David of Williamsburg; a daughter Katherine Hunzinger of Williamsburg; 14 grandchildren, Justin, Michelle, Shannon, Steven, Nicholas, Ryan, Jessica, Brent, Matthew, Emily, Hanna, Mickala, Amy, and Tyler; and 6 great-grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, Noah, Madilyn, Kayna, and Samantha. Also surviving is a brother Larry (Marge) of Williamsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald Leo Mullnix was born February 18, 1937 in Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Harold Lester and Lora Pundt Mullnix. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1956 and married Nancy Lee Akers on June 10, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. To this union 3 sons and a daughter were born. Gerald was a lifelong farmer and also worked numerous jobs in the Williamsburg and Oxford area, including J&S of Williamsburg and F.S. of Oxford. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
The family extends a special thankyou to the Class of 1956 of Williamsburg High School, the doctors and staff of Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice of Iowa City.
Kevin C. Dane, age 59 of Williamsburg, formerly of Sully, died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at his home. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 25, 2011, First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, with Rev. Don Dovre officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg. Visitation: 5 to 8 P.M. Kevin is survived by his sons, Kristopher Charles of Waukee and Kraig Michael of Williamsburg; a brother Richard and wife Shirlene of Waverly and a sister Marcia Wehner and husband William of Williamsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Kevin Charles Dane was born March 19, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles Kenneth and Vena L. Myers Dane. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1970, Huron College, South Dakota in 1974 and received his Master’s degree from Northeast Missouri State. Kevin married Launi Wessendorf on December 20, 1980 in Newell, Iowa. The couple later divorced. Kevin taught in the Willow Lake schools in South Dakota, the Gilmore City-Bradgate Schools and at Woodward-Granger Schools from 1982 -1983. He had been a high school biology and PE teacher at Lynnville Sully since 1984. He also was a football and wrestling, and girls track coach there. He retired in 2010. Kevin enjoyed sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
Raymond T. Steele, age 60 of Marengo, died Saturday, December 10, 2011 at his home. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 14, 2011, First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev. Katie Dawson officiating. Military Honors will be conducted at the church by Marengo American Legion Post #76. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Ray is survived by his children, Jim Starkweather (Val) of Marengo, Sandy Lorenz (Kelly) of Marengo, Sandra Ruhd (Tim) of Cedar Rapids, Sharon Steele (Edward) of West Des Moines, Shelly Steele-Smith (Duane) of Marengo and Stacy Barker (Brian) of Cedar Rapids; sixteen grandchildren, Taylor and wife Skylar, Paige and fiance Tim, Daniel, Christopher, Samantha, Nicole, Kayla, Skye, Paulina, Jackie, Savannah, Davis, Robert, Dawson, Dane and Miles; and two great-grandchildren Jack and Brayden. Also surviving are his siblings, Arthur Steele (Linda) of Eldon, MaryAlice Bickford (Jerry) of Selma, Judy Findlay of Marengo, Becky Howard of Fairfield, Faye Boyd (Larry) of Pleasant Plaine, and Joyce Mills (Frank) of Fairfield.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Alice Woodard Steele, his wife Marsha Armstrong, a son Jack and a nephew Timothy Steele.
Raymond Theodore Steele was born October 27, 1951 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Francis Hubert and Alice P. Woodard Steele. He attended Cardinal of Eldon schools. Ray served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973, stationed on the USS Saratoga in the Philippines during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Dorita Lisondra on August 8, 1973 in Ottumwa. The couple later divorced. Ray married Marsha Armstrong in 1981. She died in 1994.
Ray was a mechanic and worked for various area businesses. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, hunting and gambling. He was a “gear head” and liked tinkering with any mechanical items. Most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.
Harold E. Robinson, age 94 of Williamsburg, died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Highland Ridge Nursing Home, Williamsburg. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 13, 2011, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg with Rev. Carl Cloeter officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Harold is survived by his wife, Elsie; a daughter Juanita Roland (Gene) of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Tonja Ludwig (Bill) of Waterloo, Dan Roland (Jeri) of Grinnell, Jenni Gault (Paul) of Kalamazoo, MI, Karri Brown (Jeff) of Kenosha, WI and Nate Durr (fiancee, Sierra) of Marengo; nine great-grandchildren, Jason and Kaden Ludwig, Lucas, Kennedy, and Briar Roland, Robbie and Rhia Durr, Raven Gault, and Lincoln Durr. Also surviving are his siblings, Avis Reed of Cedar Rapids, Loyal Robinson (Jeanette) of Cedar Rapids, Carol Robinson of Santa Barbara, CA, Marilyn Baudler of Des Moines, and Cloyd Robinson (Shirlene) of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Patricia Durr, four brothers, Glen, Gene, Merl and Gary and two sisters, Lucille Brandt and Eunice Nerison.
Harold Earl Robinson was born January 15, 1917 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Earl and Florence Gerard Robinson. He attended the Iowa County schools in the Victor area, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, serving until 1946. He married Elsie Pfisterer on August 8, 1943 at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown. The couple farmed in the Blairstown area. In 1947 he was employed by the Leo Kelly Company in Marengo. In 1950 he went to work at Amana Refrigeration until 1957 when he worked for three years as a mechanic for his brother. From 1960 to 1986 Harold was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation. He also served as custodian of St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years. Harold was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the VFW.
Robert O. Martinson, age 83 of Williamsburg, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead, Iowa with Rev. Terry Small officiating. Burial will be in East York Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, December 5, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead. A memorial fund has been established. Robert is survived by his wife Dorothy; his son Duane of Williamsburg; his daughter Doris Kinsinger and husband Ed of Parnell; ten grandchildren, Tricia Schutterle (Wayne) of Norway, Tonya Grambo (Rick) of Minot, ND, Rachel Trimpe (Rod) of West Amana, Shawn Martinson of Iowa City, Corey Martinson (Trisha) of Williamsburg, Nick Martinson of Ely, Vince Martinson (Niki) of Williamsburg, Jared Kinsinger (Stephanie) of Wellman, Candra Nickell (James) of Wellman and Gabe Kinsinger of North Liberty; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Dale in 1982, and three brothers, Raymond, Alfred and Ralph Martinson.
Robert Martinson was born June 23, 1928 in York Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Bertha Witte Martinson. He attended the Iowa County schools and married Dorothy Vogt on April 8, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead. The couple farmed for many years. Robert also drove the school bus and worked for the Iowa County Secondary Road Department. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead.
Dorothy J. Bral, age 85, of Marengo, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 2, 2011, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. Visitation: 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, December 1, 2011, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with a Scripture Service at 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be contributed to the Marengo Memorial Hospital.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Leroy; four children, Barbara Roggentien (Mike), Richard Bral (Conna), David Bral (Juli) all of Marengo and Catherine Horgan (Stephen) of Atlanta, GA; 11 grandchildren, Tascha Naber (Kirk) of Overland Park, KS, Traci Nandi (Partha) of New York City, NY, Toby Bral (Kristen) of Marengo, Robert Roggentien (Lindsey) of San Francisco, CA, Nicholas Bral of Marengo, Christina Roggentien of San Diego, CA, Cale Bral of Marengo, and Riley, Kathleen, Connor and Brendan Horgan of Atlanta, GA; five great-grandchildren, Lauren and Cameron Naber of Overland Park, Owen and Derek Bral of Marengo, and Jayden Nandi of New York City, NY. Also surviving are her siblings, Richard Kelly (Barb) and Patricia Johnson (Fred Krysel) all of Nisswa, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Dorothy J. Kelly was born June 18, 1926 in Blairstown, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Mildred Schafbuch Kelly. She attended the Blairstown schools and graduated from Mount Mercy College in 1947 with a degree in Business. She moved to Chicago where she worked for International Harvester and the 3M Corporation. She returned to Marengo and was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for her father at Leo Kelly Company. Dorothy married Leroy R. Bral on October 14, 1950 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Blairstown, Iowa. The couple recently celebrated their 61st anniversary. Dorothy worked as a court- martial reporter for the U.S. Air Force during her husband’s military service. She continued this employment when they were stationed in Germany. After raising her family, Dorothy began a career with the Department of Transportation, retiring in 1988.
Dorothy loved writing poetry, and family members looked forward to her annual Christmas letters. She enjoyed reading and traveling to see family and friends, but also liked visiting with them on the phone. Dorothy was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo, the Altar and Rosary Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, and several bridge and card clubs.
Emery E. Barker, age 89 of Brooklyn, died Monday, November 28, 2011 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 1, 2011, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with Mr. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be contributed to Hospice Compassus or Good News Productions.
Emery is survived by his wife Doris; a daughter Marsha Hash and husband Gary of Brooklyn; a grandson Jeremy Hendrickson; step grandchildren, Chris Hash, and Sara Ouren (Matt); several nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Marcella Myers Barker, a brother Willard Barker, two sisters, Helen Schumacher and Oma Pearl Allen, brothers-in-law Herb Schumacher and Arlie Allen, sisters-in-law Dorothy Barker and Mary Barker, and a niece Janice Kay Schumacher Weiss.
Emery Eugene Barker was born February 11, 1922 in McLeansboro, Illinois, the son of Alfred and Marcella Myers Barker. He attended the McLeansboro schools. Emery served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, stationed in the Philippines, and then Korea. He married Doris Ilene Wools on December 3, 1947 in Morganfield, KY. The couple adopted Marsha Ann in 1953. He was employed as an overhead crane operator for over 40 years with Inland Steel Company in East Chicago, IN. Emery and Doris moved to Brooklyn in 2010 to be near their daughter and her family. Emery enjoyed painting pictures and working on cars. He loved to play pool and spent many hours outdoors and caring for his yard. He was a member of the American Legion, the DAV and the Christian Church in Griffith, IN.
