Lunacek, Milo R.
Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery
Milo R. Lunacek, 84 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, October 30 at Manor Care from an extended illness. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 4 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial with Military honors will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Military rites will be by VFW Post #788. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Milo was born
November 30, 1920 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Annie Hajek Lunacek. Milo served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 788. He retired from Iowa Manufacturing as a crane operator.
Milo is survived by two sisters Irene Ackerman of Las Vegas and Rose Mefford of Cedar Rapids; a sister in law Helen Lunacek of Camanche, Iowa; three nieces and two nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Clarence, and sisters Olga Huseby and Velma Lunacek.

Langer, Gladys
Cemetery: Sulek Cemetery - near Shueyville
Gladys Langer, 78 of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, November 5 at home. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Sulek Cemetery, near Shueyville. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids and for an hour prior to services Tuesday at the Chapel.
Gladys was born
October 13, 1927 near Shueyville, the daughter of Steve and Della Vrchticky Dlouhy. She married Emil C. Langer October 27, 1947 near Ely. She worked for many years at Osco Drug as a cashier. She loved working with people, crocheting, reading and fishing. She was especially fond of her outdoor flowers. She and Emil loved spending time with their dog, Molly.
Gladys is survived by two daughters, Betty Kucera and friend Kevin Danley, and Connie (Mark) Newlon both of Cedar Rapids; a grandson William; two sisters Betty (Dick) Ham and Elsie Mishleau; a sister in law Rosie Fisher; a former daughter in law Cathy Barry; two brothers Leo and Bob Dlouhy.
She is preceded in death by her parents Steve and Della; her husband, of over 56 years, Emil who died December 29, 2003; two sons Alan and John; grandson Larry; brothers Lester and George Dlouhy; sisters Martha Roy, Bernice Shulte, Della Bonnie Johnson; sister in law Jeanne Dlouhy.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Association or the American Cancer Society.
King, George William
Cemetery: Anderson Cemetery
George William“Bill” King Jr., 57, of Marion died Thursday morning, November 10, 2005 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, November 14, 2005 at Christ Community United Methodist Church, Marion with Reverend Tom Parrott officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Anderson Cemetery, Swisher. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm on Sunday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Bill was born
on January 3, 1948 in Washington, DC the son of George and Mary (Thomas) King Sr. He graduated from Prairie High School and later graduated from UNI in 1973. Bill served in the US Army in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star. On April 10, 1968 he was united in marriage to Judi Hosek in Cedar Rapids. Bill was employed by Rockwell Collins for 31 years and retired as manager of Logistics Services in November of 2004. He was a charter member of Christ Community United Methodist Church in Marion. He also served on the SPRC and finance committees at church. He was an integral member of the board of ARC of East Central Iowa for over 25 years. Professionally, Bill was a member of the Institute of Management Accountants. He greatly enjoyed the 15 years he was part of the chain gang at UNI football games. Bill also enjoyed traveling for business and pleasure having formed many lasting friendships throughout the world.
Bill is survived by his wife of 37 years Judi King of Marion; sons Bryan King of Marion and Christopher King of Mount Vernon and his fiancée Michelle Brecke of Cedar Rapids; his mother Mary King of Cedar Rapids; sisters Nancy (Alan) Kennedy and Joanne (Scott) Carbaugh all of Cedar Rapids; brothers David (Dawn) King of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Richard (Aimee) King of Atkins, and Robert (Elizabeth) King of Galesburg, Illinois; father-in-law Eldon (Betty) Hosek of Marion; brother-in-law Verne (Joyce) Hosek of Fairfax; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father George William King Sr., and mother-in-law Marion Hosek.

Spores, Betty Slaymaker
Cemetery: Koszta Cemetery
Betty Slaymaker Spores, 66, died peacefully November 25, 2005 after battling colon cancer. Family and friends may attend a remembrance of Betty’s life Monday, November 28 at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 29 at Brosh Chapel by Chaplain Dave King of Amenity Hospice. Burial will follow at Koszta Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters Rachel (Doyle) Pettit and Rose Slaymaker (Tim Nemec), brother Gilbert Jr. (Monica) Morley, sister Dorothy Wright, uncle Art (Mary) Gorsh, and aunt Edna (Arnold) Heck, four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two nieces, and one nephew along with special friends Arlene and Pappy Phillips and Pam Klemetson.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother.
Betty was born
in North English February 15, 1939 and graduated from Washington High School in 1958. She married Thomas Slaymaker in June 1959. After Thomas was hit and killed by an automobile in 1971, she married Glenn Spores in 1985. Betty worked in a variety of service and caring positions throughout her life, attended Cedar Rapids Baptist Church, and enjoyed her friends at Witwer and Milestones. She was an incredibly loving, caring, and generous mother who will be greatly missed.
Rachel and Rose extend a special thank you to the dedicated staff of Amenity Hospice and Living Center East whose compassion made a positive impact on the quality of Mom’s final months.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Williams, Alice J.
Cemetery: Cedar Memorial Cemetery
Alice J. Williams, 99, formerly of Solon, died peacefully Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Windmill Manor Care Center, Coralville with family at her side.
A celebration of her nearly 100 years will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Brosh Chapel, Solon with the Reverend David Wilkening, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm Wednesday at Brosh Chapel, Solon.
Alice was born
February 12, 1906 in Ely, Iowa the only child of Otto Moravek and Anna Vittengl Moravek. She attended Adams Elementary in Cedar Rapids. She later lived in Chicago, Illinois, Oakland, California and then Kansas City, Missouri. She married Tilford L. Williams on November 27, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri. They lived in Amoret, Missouri until 1936 when they moved to Solon, Iowa with their two daughters Marjorie Lee and Donna Jean. Alice and Tilford celebrated 64 years together before his death in 1991.
Alice loved simple things in life. When she was able, she loved to garden – especially flowers. Her yard was always in full bloom from spring to fall. Her dahlias and roses were her pride and joy. She also loved music and dancing. From Big Bands to Polkas, from the Charleston to the Waltz, if she wasn’t singing she was dancing. But most of all, she loved and lived for her family. Although she was blessed with only two daughters, they provided her with fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, one step great-great grandchild and a lifetime of joy and happiness.
Alice is survived by her daughters Marjorie Lamansky of Coralville and Donna and her husband Ronnie Worrell of Solon; her grandchildren Craig, Neil, and Brian Lamansky, Jill Sparks, Vikki (Michael) Bell, Lynn (Monica) Worrell, Brad (Nancy) Worrell, Terese (Bob) Lisenbee, Renee (Doug) Ossman, Kevin (Rene) Worrell, Lisa (Roger) Diltz, Carla (Dan) Garrett, Dawn Worrell, and Chad (Sandra) Worrell; her great grandchildren and her great-great grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her parents and her husband Tilford.

Svoboda, Irma Nettie
Cemetery: Hala Cemetery
Irma N. Svoboda, 95, died Friday, March 10, 2006, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fairfax with Fr. Phil Thompson presiding. Burial will follow services in Hala Cemetery near Walford. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and a 4 p.m vigil. Visitation will also be an hour prior to services at the church.
Irma was born
June 4, 1910 on the family farm in rural Linn County, the daughter of Frank and Bertha Boddicker Schulte. Irma married Emil L. Svoboda, June 21, 1933 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Walford. She worked for over 25 years at the Ox Yoke in Amana, and also helped farm. In the early 1970’s she enrolled in LaSalle Extension University of Chicago, where she successfully completed two years correspondence study in interior design. In the mid 1980’s, Emil and Irma obtained a “Century Farm” designation for their farm near Amana, the land having been in the Svoboda family more than 100 years. She guided restoration of their Victorian-era farmhouse and associated barn, both of which were built in 1898 by Emil’s parents, Andrew and Barbara Svoboda. Irma enjoyed spending time with family especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a keen mind for politics and loved to bake kolaches, plant flowers and trees, enjoy nature and watchbirds.
Irma is survived by a son Conrad (Diann) Svoboda of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Linda Svoboda of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren Scott (Becky) Svoboda of Shellsburg, Amy Svoboda (Joe Petta) of Brooklyn, New York and Dianne (Scott) Mason of rural Amana; two great-grandchildren Sydney and Abby Mason; four step-great-grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren; a brother Franklin Schulte of Walford, and a sister Mildred (Maurice) Brannaman of Martelle.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and her husband Emil who died August 3, 1990, four brothers Alfred, Bernard, Cyril and Ferdinand Schulte.
