Alice Van Citters
Mrs. Alice Van Citters, age 90, of Orange City, passed away Monday, March 26, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiated.
Alice Louise was born Nov. 8, 1910, in Madison, Neb. the daughter of the Rev. Henry and Cornelia (Oline) McClenahan. She graduated from the Hastings, Neb. High School in 1928 and from Hastings College in 1932. She also attended the University of Nebraska.
On July 19, 1947, she married
Aernout Constantyne "Ollie" Van Citters at Hastings. They made their home in Orange City. Mr. Van Citters passed away July 22, 1992, in Sioux City.
In late 1997, Mrs. Van Citters became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility.
Alice was a teacher in Doniphan, Dawson, Coleridge, and Harington High Schools in Nebraska, and the public and Northwestern Classical Academy in Orange City.
She was a member of the American Reformed Church and Reformed Church Women. She taught Sunday school classes for twenty years.
Survivors include nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Elvan and James McClenahan, and a sister, Joyce McClenahan.
Memorials may be directed to the church building fund.
Richard Vande Hoef
Richard "Dick" Vand Hoef, 61, of Ireton, and Hawarden area died Tuesday, March 27, at Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.
Services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Associated Church in Hawarden. Rev. Charlotte Fillingsness officiated.
Mr. Vande Hoef was born July 25, 1939, in Hawarden, the son of Evert "Ed" and Agnes (Vander Mei) Vande Hoef. He lived with his parents until moving to the Hope Haven Training Center in Orange City, in 1986.
He was then employed at Hope Haven Work Center in Rock Valley. He entered Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon two years ago.
He enjoyed his pet dogs.
Survivors indluce a brother and his wife, Tony and Mary of Denver, Colo.; five sisters, Cathy Bowden of Dwight, Neb., Joann Winterfeld of Ireton, Edna and her husband, Eugene Kleinhesslink of Hixson, Tenn., and Charlene and her husband, Dean Lill of Hawarden; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Adrain Harold and a brother in infancy.
Harold A. Bomgaars
Harold A. Bomgaars, 79, of Sioux City died Monday, March 26, at a Sioux City retirement home.
Services were 10 a.m. Friday, March 30 at Morningside Reformed Church. Rev. Merrill Muller and Henry Muller officiated.
Mr. Bomgaars was born Feb. 27, 1922, in Hull, the son of William H. and Tena (De Velder) Bomgaars. He attendad grade school in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1940. He attended Morningside College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy. He later graduated from the University of Iowa School of Business in 1947.
He married
Mary Jane Bates on March 28, 1948, in Holland Mich.
After completing college, he entered into his father's business, "Bomgaars Auto Supply" as a wholesale automotive parts territory salesman. In 1952, the Bomgaars family entered the farm store style of business expanding into general merchandises over the years.
He was a member of Morningside Reformed Church, Landmark Lodge 103 A.F. and A.M., Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, where he was in the Jesters and White Horse Mounted Patrol.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Roger and his wife, Jane of Sioux City, William and his wife, Anne of Monument, Colo., and Joseph of Girard, Kan.; three daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Senator John Redwine of Sioux City, Sandra and Dr. James Wilkins of Bonne Fin, Haiti and Angela and Mike Jansons of Aurora, Colo.; and 13 grandchildren.
Memorials in his name may be directed to the "Bomgaars Center for Cancer Care" at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center.
Dalaine Joy Pfeil
Dalaine Joy Pfeil, 38, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Friday, June 29, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were Tuesday, July 3, at Morningside Reformed Church. The Rev. Verlyn Schaap officiated.
Mrs. Pfeil was born April 9, 1963, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of Daryl and Maris (Hager) Vander Kooi. They moved to Sioux Center where she attended Christian School. She graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull. She attended Dordt College and also Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, where she studied interior decorating and design. She was employed at Lefko Kitchen and Supplies before moving to Grand Rapids, where she worked at Gorman Furniture. She returned to Sioux City and was employed in sales and design for HOM Furniture.
She married
Derrick Pfeil on Sept. 15, 2000, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
She attended Morningside Reformed Church and was a member of the Siouxland Y.
Survivors include her husband; her parents of Sioux Center; a brother and his wife, Shane and Kristi Vander Kooi of Sioux Center; a sister and her husband, Michelle and Tom Hoefling of Viborg, S.D.; her paternal grandparents, David and Erna Vander Kooi of Hudsonville, Mich.; her husband's parents, Dean and Ruby Pfeil of Sioux Center; and two brothers-in-law, Kent and his wife, Kristin Pfeil of McKinney, Texas, and Daniel Pfeil of Sioux Center.
Memorials may be directed to the Morningside Reformed Church Endowment Fund.
Ben Vonk
Ben Vonk, 75, of Chandler, Ariz., formerly of Sioux Center, died Sunday, July 1, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services were Tuesday, July 3, at New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center. The Rev. Carl Boersma and Wayne Van Regenmorter officiated.
Mr. Vonk was born March 4, 1926, the son of Ben and Jeanette (Katje) Vonk. He was raised in the Sioux County area and served in the Armed Forces from 1945 to 1946.
He married
Winnie Van Regenmorter on March 7, 1952. He farmed near Sioux Center, Inwood and Rock Valley. Following his retirement, he was employed with Hope Haven for 18 years, where he worked with the handicapped and drove bus. He moved to Chandler in 1994, and recently to Mesa, Ariz.
He was a charter member of New Life Community church and a member of Bethany Community Church in Tempe, Ariz. He enjoyed Bible study groups, bicycling, and playing pool and cards.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis of Le Mars, and Virgil of Gilbert, Ariz.; a daughter, Beverly Ohman of Ames, four grandchildren, Allison and Ashley Vonk and Jeff and Jennifer Ohman; four brothers, Henry of Mount Lake, Minn., George, Pete and Eugene, all of Sioux Center; and five sisters, Jeanette Feekes and Dorothy Van Bocove, both of Sun City, Ariz., and Gertrude Van De Berg, Goldie De Jager and Kathy Vande Kieft, all of Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gerrit.
Alfred C. Van Schepen
Alfred Van Schepen, 85, of Orange City, died Monday, July 2, 2001 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 5, at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiated.
Alfred Christian was born Dec. 10, 1915, at Ireton, the son of Fred and Johanna (Guysen) Van Schepen, Jr. He was raised at Ireton.
On April 22, 1955, he married
Alice Verbrugge at Edgerton, Minn. They farmed southwest of Ireton until 1987, when they moved into Ireton. In December of 1998, he moved to the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, where his wife joined him. Mrs. Van Schepen passed away Aug. 25, 1999, in Orange City.
On May 4 of this year, Mr. Van Schepen transferred to Pleasant Acres.
He was currently a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. For most of his life, he was a member of Ireton Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as a deacon and participated in the Men's Society.
Alfred was a foster grandparent at Hope Haven in Rock Valley for many years, and he belonged to the Crossroads Bible Institute, where he assisted prisoners with Bible studies. In earlier times, he had been a member of the Christian Farmers Association. He enjoyed reading.
Survivors include his two sons, Fred, his wife, Laura, and their children, Amanda and Marshall, of Orange City; and Marlin, his wife, Karen, and their children, Matt, Brent, and Tyler, of Edgerton. Minn.; two brothers, John, of South Holland, Ill., and Paul, of Burnsville, Minn.; two sisters, Ethel Schiebout, of Pella, and Eileen "Lee" De Vries, of De Motte, Ind.; and nephews and nieces.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Goslinga, and another Eileen in childhood; and a brother, George.
Memorials may be directed to the foster grandparents program at Hope Haven.
