James Crow
James Leo Crow, 56, of Burlington, died at 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004.
Born March 19, 1948, in Burlington, he was the son of Leo B. and Lucy C. Eibes Crow. On July 23, 1966, he married Christina Fisher in Bur–lington. They later divorced.
Mr. Crow worked as a mechanic at Hawk Eye Motor, an Iowa Southern Utilities dispatcher, an appliance and furnace serviceman, in maintenance at Hope Haven and as a production welder at ESCP in Mediapolis.
He was of the Catholic faith. He was a Boy Scout and involved in pony league baseball. He enjoyed wood burning plaques and signs, working on engines, feeding birds and squirrels, yard work, listening to music and was a Harley Davidson enthusiast.
Survivors include three sons, Paul Crow of Sioux City, Nick Crow of Urbandale and Chad Crow of Burlington; one daughter, Stacy Crow of Burlington; four grandchildren; one brother, Tom Crow of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Marilyn White of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Kathy Crow of Burlington; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Crow will be at 1 p.m. today at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
MARY E. FRY
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary E. Fry, 82, of Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Shirley Bliven will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel this evening from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. A Memorial Has Been Established.
Daryl G. Garvey
Memorial services for Mr. Daryl G. Garvey, 51, of Englewood, Colorado, and formerly of New London, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 20, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Mount Pleasant. Father Nick Adam will officiate. Inurnment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery . Visitation will begin after noon today at Elliott Chapel, New London, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established for the computer science department at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.
Phyllis S. Horn
Funeral services for Mrs. Phyllis Sue Horn, 55, of New London, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 20, at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Bob Dameron will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery , Mount Union. Visitation will begin after noon today at Elliott Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established.

John Collier
John B. Collier, 56, of Fort Madison, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at his home.
Born May 12, 1948, in Geneseo, Ill., he was the son of Donald H. and Elberta Myers Collier. On May 22, 1989, he married Cynthia A. "Cindy" Mason in Mesa, Ariz. She died March 14, 2004.
Mr. Collier played for many years in the Fort Madison Municipal Band. He attended First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and played in the Hawkeye Marching Band.
Survivors include one son, Paul B. Collier at home; one sister, Roberta Fullerton of Boone; and three nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at King–Link Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m.
The funeral for Mr. Collier will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at King–Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Sandum officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Fort Madison Municipal Band.
Fred Tisdale
Fred S. Tisdale, 83, of Keosauqua, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.
Born Jan. 30, 1920, in Stringtown south of Troy, he was the son of H. Schuyler and Mattie Vorhis Tisdale. On March 16, 1945, he married Dorothy Umphrey in Birmingham.
Mr. Tisdale farmed near Milton.
He was a graduate of Troy High School and attended DeForest Institute, an early television technology school in Chicago.
He was a high school basketball referee, an avid hunter and community leader. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Milton and served on its official board. He was a 4–H leader, a member of Northeast Missouri Hereford Association and served on the Van Buren County Board of Education, Van Buren County Hospital Board, Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative Board and acted briefly as manager of the cooperative.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Donna Harrison of Sun Prairie, Wis., and Darla Rahe of Carlinville, Ill.; one son, Kurt Tisdale of Morton, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one son.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Tisdale will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Milton, with the Revs. Raymond Doser and Ellis Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery
in Milton.
Memorials have been established for the Milton American Legion building fund and Troy Academy.
Bill Nelson
Bill Alfred Nelson, 66, of Muscatine, died Sunday morning, Sept. 28, 2003, at Muscatine Unity Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 15, 1936, in Spartansburg, S.C., he was the son of Willie and Daisy Ruth Osborne Nelson. On Aug. 4, 1955, he married Donna May Nelson in Iowa City. They later divorced.
Mr. Nelson was a machine operator for Lehigh–Leopold Co. in Burlington for 25 years. He attended school in South Carolina and in Washington, Iowa.
Survivors include one son, Bill Nelson Jr. of Columbus Junction; one daughter, Ruth Ann Kelly of Washington; five grandchildren; three great–grandchildren, and one brother, Jimmy Nelson of Las Cruces, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington, one hour prior to graveside services.
Graveside services for Mr. Nelson will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elm Grove Cemetery
in Washington with the Rev. Richard Boyd officiating.

Elsie Larson
Elsie Mae Larson, 83, of Keokuk, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born April 8, 1920, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of Enos and Mae Flora Myers. On June 6, 1953, she married Russell Larson in Las Vegas. He died March 19, 1990.
Survivors include one nephew; one great–niece; one great–nephew; one brother–in–law; special friend and caregiver, Phyllis Worrell of Hamilton, Ill.; and cousins.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
A graveside service for Mrs. Larson was Tuesday in Keokuk National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the American Lung Association.
Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Lange
Kenneth E. "Butch" Lange, 57, of Muscatine, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at home.
Born Nov. 12, 1946, in Muscatine, he was the son of Richard F. and Lorene Paris Lange. He first married Mary Jordan in October 1966 in Letts. On Nov. 10, 1984, he married Tamra S. Britcher in Muscatine.
Mr. Lange owned and operated Lange's Marine from 1988 to 2003. He worked in Burlington before opening his own business.
He was a 1966 graduate of L–M High School. He loved fishing, bow hunting and loved to race motorcycles. He was an avid Harley Davidson fan.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael K. Lange of Wilton; one daughter, Marci A. Phillips of Grandview; five grandchildren; his mother of Muscatine; two brothers, Keith A. Lange and Kevin F. Lange, both of Muscatine; one sister, Kathryn I. Bean of Ainsworth; and several nieces, nephews, great–nieces and great–nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ralph J. Wittich–Riley–Freers Funeral Home, 1931 Houser St., Muscatine.
The funeral for Mr. Lange will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ralph J. Wittich–Riley–Freers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Island Cemetery
in Fruitland. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion.

Gerald Karr
Gerald W. Karr, 75, of Lutz, Fla., formerly of Hamilton, Ill., died at 5:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, in Lutz.
Born July 1, 1929, in Hamilton, he was the son of Winnard E. "Jack" and Rosa O'Rell Myers Karr. On Feb. 14, 1952, he married Marilyn Weigel in McCook, Neb.
Mr. Karr worked as a mechanical engineer.
He was an Army veteran and loved to travel and fly. He also enjoyed researching and recording family genealogy.
Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Sylvester of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Patricia Paulk of DeLand, Fla.; one son, David Karr of Beloit, Wis.; six grandchildren; and two great–grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no visitation.
The graveside service for Mr. Karr will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery
in Hamilton.
A memorial has been established for Gulfside Regional Hospice, 3539 Universal Plaza, New Port Richey, Fla. 33552.

Frances Caslavka
Frances J. Caslavka, 83, of Fort Madison, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at West Point Care Center in West Point.
Born Nov. 12, 1920, in Cedar Township, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Nichting Pieper. On Oct. 2, 1943, she married Mark E. Scott in San Diego, Calif. He died on Nov. 6, 1969. On Sept. 20, 1978, she married Milvoy Caslvka in West Point. He died on May 16, 1987.
Mrs. Caslavka was a homemaker.
She was a member of Ss. Mary and Joseph Church and Catholic Ladies Auxiliary.
Suvivors include three sons, Paul Scott of West Point, Lee Scott of West Des Moines and Pat Scott of Fort Madison; four daughters, Alicia "Lee" Meller and Helen Johnson, both of Fort Madison, Janice Winnike of Santa Fe, Texas, and Carol Heitz of Naples, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; four great–grandchildren and two sisters, Lucille Merschman of St. Paul and Ruth Holtkamp of Hillsboro.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one brother, two nieces and two nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a wake service will be at 7 p.m. at King–Lynk Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Caslavka will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ss. Mary and Joseph Church in Fort Madison, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Aquinas High School or Marquette High School. Contributions may be left at King–Lynk Funeral Home or at Ss. Mary and Joseph Church the day of the service.
