Catherine Miller
Services for Catherine L. Miller, 80, of Elgin, Texas, formerly of Milan, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Entombment is in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Miller died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at her home.
The former Catherine Ballegeer was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Moline, the daughter of Urbaan and Goldie Callewaert Ballegeer. She married
Jack H. Miller Oct. 10, 1944, in East Moline. He died April 11, 1997.
Catherine worked 29 years for Eagle Signal, Davenport. She retired in 1986.
She was a member of the Milan American Legion Post 569 Auxiliary and the Rock Island V.F.W. Post 1303 Auxiliary.
Survivors include daughters and a son-in-law, Wanda Kay Miller, Elgin, Texas, Linda and John McManus, Sherrard; grandchildren (and spouses), Dawn Owens, Wade Heimann, Angie (Tim) Ferony, Zach (Erin) Frere, Ben (Jennifer) Frere, Matt Frere; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, Francis Ballegeer, East Moline, Leonard Ballegeer, Silvis, and Don Ballegeer, Eau Claire, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; and two brothers.
Martha Armstrong
Martha Marie Armstrong, 77, of Viola, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth. The Rev. Thomas Wright will officiate. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park cemetery , Monmouth. Friends may call after 6 p.m. on Monday at the United Methodist Church in Viola, where her famly plans to receive friends that evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
She was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Monmouth, the daughter of Harlan E. and Clytie Logsdon Johnson. She was reared and educated in Monmouth, attending Monmouth schools and Monmouth High School.
She married
Robert Eugene Martin Sept. 20, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. They divorced. He died July 3, 1997.
She married
Junior Leroy Armstrong Dec. 15, 1967, in Galesburg. They divorced.
Martha began work at Western Stoneware in 1943. She later worked at Formfit Company in Monmouth from 1946 to 1956, where she became a supervisor. She continued at Smolers as a supervisor from 1973 to 1978. Lastly, Martha was the owner and operator of Martha's Family Restaurant in Viola from 1984 to 1998. Martha has been a member of Moose Lodge Home Chapter 3000 since 1977. She also is a decendant of John D. Bond, an early pioneer in the development of Warren County. She was a devoted member of Viola United Methodist Church.
Survivors and spouses are her daughter, Karen Marie Bruce, Viola; granddaughters, Dawn Rumburg and Jeff, Seaton, Tina Christian, Milan, and Laura Stratton and Chris, Viola; grandson and spouse, John Bruce and Elizabeth, Viola; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Phyllis Johnson and JoAnne Needham, both of Monmouth; brothers, Harlan Johnson and Delores and Tony Johnson and Barb, all of Monmouth, Brad Johnson and Diane, Kirkwood, Ill., and Danny Johnson and Vicki, Oquawka; niece, Juanita 'JC' Cole Jerome and Larry, Horton, Kan.; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Nancy Johnson, Kirkwood, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Laura Ella; sister, Bonita Pusetere; brother, Donald 'Doc' Johnson Sr.; and her special friend, Shirley Maynard.
Jakob Brodt
Jakob Brodt, 83, of Bartonville, Ill., died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Hopedale Hospital, Hopedale, Ill.
Graveside services are 3 p.m. Monday at Orendorff cemetery in rural Hopedale. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Davis Mortuary, Hopedale.
He was born Oct. 8, 1920, in New Passu, Yugoslavia, to Jakob and Eva Brodt. He married
Katharina Binder April 14, 1940, in New Passu.
Surviving are his wife; sons, Jack, Sherrard and Ben, Peoria, Ill.; daughters, Liz Auer, Alaska, and Katie Larking, Stanford, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Berneice Gustafson
Berneice W. Gustafson, 91, of East Moline, formerly of Hillsdale, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in Mt. Maria cemetery , Hillsdale. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to service time Monday. Memorials may be made to the Hillsdale United Methodist Church.
The former Berneice Johnson was born March 29, 1912, in Hillsdale, the daughter of John L. and Flora Tinsman Johnson. She married
Carl Gustafson on Dec. 9, 1950, in Hillsdale. He died on Jan. 1, 1977.
She had been employed at the Old Farmers and Merchants State Bank, Hillsdale, for 18 years and then retired from Sandstrom Products, Port Byron, after 18 years.
Berneice was a member of the Hillsdale United Methodist Church and the Home Extension.
Survivors include a niece, Opal Orton, Hillsdale; a great-niece, Deborah Bolin, Hillsdale; and a great-nephew, John Bolin, New York, N.Y.
Kathryn Hulting
Kathryn V. Hulting, 86, of Geneseo, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Skilled Care Unit Geneseo.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. Thomas Heyd will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery , Geneseo. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the First Lutheran Church Elevator Fund, Geneseo.
Kathryn was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Reynolds, the daughter of Leonard and Caroline Weitz Frank. She was a graduate of Geneseo High School. She married
Cyril E. Hulting April 17, 1938, in Geneseo. He died Aug. 21, 2003.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Geneseo, for more than60 years and formerly taught Sunday school. She also belonged to the Rebecca Circle, Columbian Club and the Henry County Farm Bureau. She volunteered at Geneseo Good Samaritan and Hammond-Henry Hospital. She enjoyed playing cards, her family and especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Billie Hulting, Geneseo, Wayne and Jean Hulting, Geneseo, Ron Hulting, Novato, Calif; eight grandchildren and spouses, David and Elena Hulting, Beth and Seth Gill, Christina and Tim Shelton, Erika and Brad Heriford, Deanna and Eric Kim, Paula and Ben Erickson, Sarah Hulting, Mark Hulting; five great-grandchildren, Alysha Gill, Rachel Heriford, Grace Shelton, Lauren Kim, Olivia Heriford; two sisters and spouses, Dorothy Gernant, Geneseo, and Marjorie and Rolland Rahn, Geneseo. She was preceded in death by her husband Cyril.
Jason Rahmus
Jason L. Rahmus 32, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Geneseo, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, from injuries received from an electrical accident in Curtis, Neb.

Patty J. Ransom, 57, of Lyndon, Ill., died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, Ill.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Prophetstown United Methodist Church. Burial is in Lyndon cemetery . Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McDonald, Rock Falls, and 10 a.m. to services at the church.
She was born July 9, 1946, in Sterling, to Donald and Alva McFadden. She married
George Ransom March 19, 1965. They divorced.
Surviving are her daughters, Pamela Scanlan and Cami Arthurs, both Lyndon, Darci Moeller, Rock Falls, and Amy Ransom, Walnut, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Leola Morgan and Jean Koster, both Sterling, Donna Scott, Oregon, Ill., Diann Landheer, Dixon, Roslynn Frasu, Valdosta, Ga., and Rhonda McFadden, Alabama; and a brother, Robert Hinrichs, Sterling.

Bernadine Brookhart
Bernadine E. Brookhart, 94, of Davenport, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Ridge Crest Retirement Village, Davenport.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic, Davenport. Visitation is 10 a.m. to services. Burial is in Mt. Calvary cemetery , Davenport. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Jan. 21, 1910. She married
Cleo Brookhart in 1933. He died in 1952.
Surviving are her sons, John, Centennial, Colo., Gerald, Peoria, Ill., William, Princeton, Iowa, and Daniel, Iowa City; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.
Carl Corder
Carl Corder, 87, of Moulton, Iowa, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville, Iowa.
Services were held Tuesday at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home, Moulton. Burial was in Sunset View cemetery , north of Moulton. Carl was born the son of John and Hattie Henning Corder near Coal City, Iowa, on May 1, 1916. He received his education in a rural Appanoose County school and later attended the Coyne Electrical College in Chicago where he became an electrician. On Dec. 24, 1940, Carl was united in marriage to Mabel Foster in Centerville.
He worked for more than 35 years with the Rock Island Railroad, where he served as an electrician. He was a member of the Orleans Church of Christ in Moulton, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Corder, Moulton; sons, Larry and his wife, Diana Corder, Knoxville, Iowa, Richard Corder, Moline, Kevin and his wife, Colleen Corder, Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter, Karen and her husband, David Schwartzkopf, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Richard Corder Jr., Bryan Carl Corder, Wade Carl Schwartzkopf, Jason Carl Corder, Mark Schwartzkopf, Camron Corder, Carl Corder and Keely Corder; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Ted Corder, Cincinnati, Iowa, and Tracey Corder, Moulton; sister, Nellie Lee, Centerville. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Florence Gordy; and brothers, Bobbie and J.D. Corder.

She was born Sept. 3, 1908, in Davenport, to John and Elizabeth Pohlmann Reese. She married
Thomas McDowell June 25, 1949, in Davenport. He died Feb. 12, 2001.
She was an executive secretary for the Ramsey Agency, Davenport, and D'Arcy Agency, Chicago.
Survivors are cousins, John Reese, East Moline, Kathleen Elliott, Rock Island, and William Reese, Crosby, Minn. She was preceded by a sister, Josephine Reese.
Herbert Weber
Herbert D. Weber, 75, Bettendorf, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Genesis West Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St Paul Lutheran, Davenport. Friends may gather at 10 a.m. at the church for a time of remembering. A luncheon will follow services at the church. Arrangements are by Runge, Davenport.

Genevieve was born Nov. 20, 1916, in Bettendorf, to Samuel and Velma Henry. She married
Lawrence Miller on Oct. 4, 1953, in St. Louis, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1994.
Genevieve was a legal secretary for Andrew Kopp and later Sandholm, Alvine and Ruud, all of Moline.
Genevieve was a very active member of First Congregational Church, Moline, where she also participated in the choir and many other church activities. She was a Lady Elk and loved to travel. She also was a member of the Putnam Museum.
Survivors (and spouses) are her daughter, Nancy Miner, Burnsville, Minn.; granddaughters, Linda (James) Spencer, Fredricksburg, Va., Sheryl (David) Ringberg, Eagan, Minn., Karen (Gregory) McLeod, Broomfield, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Stephan and Nicole Spencer, Thomas and Margaret Ringberg, and John, Katherine, Jennifer and Sarah McLeod. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Russell Henry; and sister, Evelyn Hallock.
