Gerald Donald ”Red” Drallmeier, 79, of 2402 Deborah Drive SW, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2004 in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services with military rites at 10 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Daniel Hurt of First Assembly of God Church will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Maxine, three daughters, Erika (Jay) Miller of Mt. Vernon, Marlene Jeffrey and Doris (Dewane) Hughes, and two stepsons, Gerald Batey and Lester (Beverly) Batey all of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Dewane (Nicole) Hughes of Joplin, Missouri, Christine (Larry) Fenton, Richard (Dee) Jeffrey, Trista Jeffrey, and Jason (Kelly) Jeffrey, Lynnette Batey and Chad (Crystal) Batey all of Cedar Rapids, and Valerie (Roy) Pierce of Washington, Iowa, and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Gerald was born in Farmersburg, Iowa on June 29, 1924 to Elmer and Anna Lenth Drallmeier. He graduated from Monona High School in 1941 and enlisted in the Army after Pearl Harbor, serving his country proudly from 1941 to 1948. He married
Wally Bess in Heidelberg, Germany in 1948. She died in 1962. He married
Maxine Batey on June 6, 1969 in Cedar Rapids.
Gerald worked for Cargill, Inc for nearly 30 years retiring in 1985. He was a life time member of VFW Post No 788.
He enjoyed traveling with Maxine, visiting many places in the United States and Europe until his health restricted his activities. He also enjoyed Charlie, his grand dog, watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes, his many mall friends, good neighbors, and his family.
Gerald’s love, wit, and sense of humor, touched us all and he will be greatly missed.

Marie Alice Trachta, 76, of 2001 Hamilton St. SW, died Thursday, February 12, 2004, in her home following a sudden illness. Services at 10 AM Monday in St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Burial in St. John’s cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 7 PM on Sunday with a wake service beginning at 5 PM.
Survivors include three children, Robert Trachta and wife Kelly, Barbara McGuire and husband Russ, and Thomas Trachta and wife Julie all of Cedar Rapids, six sisters, Barbara Studer of Marion, Marge Fraenkel and husband Jack of San Francisco, California, Carol Emerson and husband Ron and Karen Town all of Grinnell, Rosemary Soukup and husband Paul of Kansas City, Missouri, and Susan Maybanks and husband George of Cedar Rapids, seven grandchildren, Tricia, Megan, and Briana Gavin, Andrew Whitters and fiancé Jenny Smith, Alicia Rivera and husband Javier, Nessa and Madeline Trachta, 18 nieces and nephews, and a family of friends from Regis and Xavier High Schools whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brother-in-laws, Ivan Studer and Duane Town.
Marie was born March 23, 1927 in Cedar Rapids to Holger and Sophia Kuncl Hansen. She married
Robert G. Trachta on May 29, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. He died on May 16, 1955. Marie graduated from Mount Mercy College with a degree in education. She taught at Regis High School for 34 years until “retirement” in 1998. She has been a substitute teacher at Xavier for the last 5 years.
Marie was a loving and generous person to her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and adored her six sisters. She was a devoted teacher who always had time for her students. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of over 66 years Ellen, two daughters Sharon Waters and Janice Santee and husband Bob, and a son Frank King Jr. and wife Jane all of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Francis King and wife Betty, and Edward King and wife Marlene all of Cedar Rapids, two sisters Helen Hovey and husband Dick of Cedar Rapids, and Wilhemina Fuchs of Naples, Florida, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a sister in law Joanna King of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers William and Curtis.
Frank was born October 27, 1916 in Cedar Rapids to William and Effie McArthur King. He married
Ellen Webrand on January 7, 1938 in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated Kings Barbershop for 25 years. He was a member of Mizpah Masonic Lodge and the Goodfellows.

Alec Forest Lawrence, 81, of 911 5th Street SE, died Saturday, January 31, 2004 in Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Survivors include two daughters Theresa Hunt and husband Tyrone of Des Moines, and Mary Lawrence-Bias and husband Gerald of Cedar Rapids, two sisters June Jones of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Joy Lawrence of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Rachelle, Theron and Alexis (husband Travis Stein); two great-grandchildren, La Nice and Caden and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers Paul and Percy, and two sisters Jean Robinson and Helen Lawrence.
Alec was born March 17, 1922 in Waterloo to Martin and Estelle Hamlin Lawrence. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1940. He married
Ludene Algee on June 21, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. She died December 20, 1983. He was a pipe fitter for Penick and Ford for over 35 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hanford American Legion Post No 5, and the Elks Lodge. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Alec adored his family. They will all miss his great sense of humor, his fine cuisine, and his great love for music and reading.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Linda Schafbuch (Al) Gerard, Darrell Schafbuch (Tracy), Connie Schafbuch (Dave) Miner, Kevin Schafbuch (Tina), Michael Covington (Shannon), Cathleen Covington, Lisa Urbanek, Tom Urbanek (Sara), Matthew Wisgerhof, Sara Wisgerhof (Eric) and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers in law and a nephew in law.
Harold was born on June 18, 1913 in Anthon, the son of Henry and Lizzie Waugh Dicus. He married
Arlene M. Gray on June 7, 1941 in South Sioux City, NE. Harold was an assembler and final inspector at F.M.C. and retired from there in 1975 after 15 years of service. Harold was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion and F.M.C. Retirees Club. Memorial donations may be given to St. Lukes Hospice or the Marion Fire Dept. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, father in law and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.

Marian F. Stello, 68, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004 in her home following a long illness. Services at 9:30 AM Wednesday in Chapel of Mercy at Mt. Mercy College. Rev. James Blocklinger and Msgr. Karl Glovik will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Chapel of Mercy from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday with a Rosary service beginning at 6 PM.
Survivors include her father C. M. “Cal” Basile, and sister Christine Schmitz and husband Richard, and two nieces all of Cedar Rapids, her children, Mary Chapman, Betty McKulski, Deanna Mahon and husband Larry, Sue Malone, and Chris Stello, twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her mother Genevieve. Marian was born July 12, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to C. M. “Cal” and Genevieve (Bucci) Basile. She graduated from Mercy Academy and Mercy Jr. College, and received her degree at Marquette University. She was a teacher at both Cary Grove and Crystal Lake Central High Schools where she served as head of the business department. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and spent many hours with church activities.
Marian was elected to the Alumni Board at Mt. Mercy College in 1997 and to the Board of Trustees in 1999.

Thomas Eads Long, 19, of 3821 Tahoe Lane S.E., died Saturday at his home. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church by Pastor Daniel Kolander. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and at the Church after 10 a.m. on Thursday. The celebration of Thomas's life will continue with a luncheon following the service in the Fellowship Center of First Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his parents, Thomas Michael Long of Cedar Rapids and Susan Long of Marion, a sister, Laura Long of Cedar Rapids, paternal grandparents, Tom and Betty Long of Sun City West, Arizona and maternal grandmother, Frieda Brereton of Fairfield, Iowa, aunts, Sheryl Johnson of Gilbert, Arizona, Helen Walraven of Ottumwa, Iowa and uncles, Greg Long of St. Louis, Missouri and Bob Long of New Berlin, Wisconsin and many cousins. Thomas and Portia Abernathy shared a long friendship. Her love and support guided him over the course of ten years.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold W. Brereton.
Thomas was born on May 6, 1984 in Cedar Rapids to Thomas and Susan (Brereton) Long. He was a 2002 graduate of Washington High School and attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis. He currently was a student at Kirkwood Community College. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church.
He is an Eagle Scout and loved the outdoors, nature and animals. Growing up in Cedar Rapids, Thomas developed a wide circle of friends with whom he participated in water sports, skiing, boating, jet skiing, golf and soccer. He was a avid billiards player and loved music. He and his family took numerous memorable trips including yearly Canadian fishing and snow skiing vacations. He loved fine dining and cooking. His friends and family will fondly remember T's loving, polite gentle spirit, kindness to others and love for adventure.
A memorial fund in Thomas Long's name has been established at Palisades-Kepler State Park.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years Mavis, two sons Mark and wife Brenda of Chatham, Illinois, and Gary and wife Sue of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Kimberly, and Kara, a sister-in-law Helen Lovik of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and two brothers-in-law James Olson and wife Connie of Richville, Minnesota, and Andrew Olson and wife Pat of Sydney, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Wallace.
Archie was born July 20, 1929 rural Forest City, Iowa. He married
Mavis Olson on July 19, 1953 in the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, Iowa. Archie had been a farmer, worked as a Lab tech at Collins Radio, and was a maintenance supervisor for Sacred Heart Convent. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha where he was active serving on many committees and boards. He was an avid fast pitch softball fan and had participated as a catcher. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and loved attending their musical and sporting events.
This fun loving “recycled teenager” will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
