Lois J. Thompson, 74, of 1435 26th Street, Marion, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, in Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion following a short illness. Services at 11 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday and at the chapel after 10 AM on Wednesday.
Survivors include her husband Kenneth, a daughter Kathy Engelhardt and husband John of Cedar Rapids, a sister Doris Armstrong and husband Dick of Marion, two brothers James Cram and wife Virginia of Vinton and Charles Cram and wife Trudy of Marion, and four grandchildren, Kayleigh and Amanda Feltes, and Andrew and Anthony Engelhardt, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Katherine Grier and a granddaughter Elisabeth Feltes.
Lois was born March 28, 1927 in Iowa County to Clarence and Oma Shaull Cram. She married
Kenneth Thompson on May 6, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lois worked as the Traffic Department Manager at Rockwell from 1953 to 1990. She also was the secretary treasurer for the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce, and had worked in the office at Universal Gym, and as treasurer for the Cedar Rapids Traffic Group. Lois enjoyed bowling, cross stitching, and crocheting. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Lois will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include three sons Gerald 'David' Sheriff and wife Diane and Mark Douglas Sheriff all of Cedar Rapids, and Richard Fye and wife Tina of Shellsburg, a sister Patricia Ulrich and husband Eugene of Winnsboro, Texas, two brothers Dale Fye and wife Helen of Cedar Rapids, and Stanley Fye and wife Elizabeth of San Diego, California, seven grandchildren, Michael, Christina, Michelle, and Madyson Sheriff, and Marc, Nicole, and Chad Fye, a special niece Connie Nielsen and husband Richard of Clear Lake, South Dakota, and several other nieces and nephews.
Irma was born November 11, 1935, in Cedar Rapids to Clifford and Mildred Griggs Fye. Irma worked for Danish Maid Bakery and Krebs Dutch Girl, as a counter helper and cook. She was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church.

Paul E. Power, 73, of 404 Teakwood Lane, NE, formerly of Manchester, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Memorial services at 3 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jim Bauer of the Finchford Community Bible Church will officiate. Survivors include his wife Patricia, two sons Stephen of Cedar Rapids, and Brian and wife Michelle of Janesville, three daughters Pamela Thomas and husband Charles of Marion, Barbara Wheeler and husband Raymond of Cedar Falls, and Laurie Tipton and husband Gary of Cedar Rapids, a brother Glen Power of California, and eleven grandchildren, Tara Thomas, Tanya Otting, David Tipton, Julie Tipton, Tyrone Power, Nathan Power, Alissa Power, Amanda Wheeler, Jason Wheeler, Brianne and Jonathan Power, a brother in law John Hogan of Manchester, and a sister in law Eunice Power of Texas. He was preceded in death by two sisters Bernice Noyes and Virginia Hogan, and a brother Gene Power.
Paul was born August 23, 1928 in Manchester, Iowa to McKinley H. and Anna M. Helmerich Power. He married
Patricia J. Reiter on July 1, 1946 in Manchester. Paul was a toolmaker at Rockwell-Collins for 36 years retiring in 1984.

Basil L. 'Big Rock' Harris Sr., 81, of 1328 First ST. SW, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, in S. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services with military honors at 10 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Gary Sneller of Cedar Christian Church officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Survivors include a son Basil Jr. of Cedar Rapids, three daughters Mary Miller and husband Larry of Atkins, Bonnie Fencl of Solon, and Grace Clinton and John Gordinier of Cedar Rapids, a sister Iris Waddilove and a brother Thurman Harris both of Cedar Rapids, fourteen grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers Archie, Arden, and Charles Jr., a sister Zelma Kasner, and three grandchildren, Richard Hathaway, and Christopher and Christine Fencl.
Basil was born March 21, 1920 in Blythedale, Missouri to Charles and Grace Moore Harris. He married
Pearl N. Parmer on July 26, 1941, in Kahoka, Missouri. She died May 2, 1998. Basil was a foreman and worked in the stockroom at Cherry-Burrell for over 40 years. He was a member of Cedar Christian Church, U.A.W. Local 1024 where he had served as Vice President, Chief Steward, and on the negotiating team. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids softball Hall of Fame and had played fast pitch and slow pitch for several years. He served in the US Army during WW II. He enjoyed sports with his grandchildren.
Basil was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Basil's family would like to thank Dr. Charles Pruchno and the St. Luke's Staff on the 4th and 5th floors and intensive care for their special care of Basil.

Gene E. Quandt, 65, of 2938 Oakland Rd NE died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center after a sudden illness. Services at 9 AM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Ken Glandorf will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca, a son, Patrick and his wife, Brenda of Coggon, a daughter, Pam Caldwell of Laurens, six brothers, David of Lino Lakes, MN., Gary, Robert and Herbert all of Denison, Richard of Sioux City, Steven of Garden City, Kan. and a sister, Christine Blum of Denison. Also survived by two grandchildren.
Gene was born on Aug. 13, 1936 in Denison and graduated from High School there. He was the son of Herbert and Ann Martens Quandt. He married
Rebecca S. Elam on Sept. 4, 1981 in Marion. Gene was an electrician for forty years and worked at Nelson Electric. He was a member of IBEW Local 405, was on the board of directors of the Iowa O.H.V., president of the Dirt Surfers A.T.V. Club for 9 years and served in the Air Force. Gene was a kind and wonderful person. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A memorial fund has been established in Gene's name. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.

Irma Mootz Herrig Seda, 84, of 350 Parkland Dr. SE, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Mercy Hallmar following a long illness. Services: 10:30 AM Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. Survivors include her husband Charles, two daughters Darla Glynn and husband Ron of Norco, California, and Mary Kay Frary-Knipper and husband Dan Knipper of Cedar Rapids, a sister Vera Dowdy of Dubuque, Iowa, two brothers Donald Mootz and wife Esther of Dalhart, Texas, and Robert Mootz of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, Mary McNichols, Jeff Glynn, Kalyn Glynn-Krebs, and Ronnie Glynn, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband Vern Herrig, her parents, and a brother Glenn Mootz.
Irma was born January 9, 1918, in Bellevue, Iowa, to John and Matilda Wagner Mootz. She married
Charles Seda on September 30, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. She was a two term Clerk of the District Court in Jackson County, Iowa, and was a licensed cosmetologist in Cedar Rapids. She was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty J. Polton, 77, of 1428 8th Street NW, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, in Living Center West following a sudden illness. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday in St. James United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Turner will officiate. Friends may register at the church after 10 AM on Saturday. Survivors include her husband Richard 'Dick', a daughter Gail Johnson and husband James of Apple Valley, California, two sons William 'Bill' and wife Cherri of Cedar Rapids, and Steven and wife Stacey of Phoenix, Arizona, six grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her pet Parrot 'Scooter'.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter Rebecca 'Becky' Polton.
Betty was born February 15, 1925 in Marion, Iowa to William and Myrta Sommers Yule. She married
Richard A. Polton on November 7, 1948 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She had worked for Collins Radio as an assembler, and for the Cedar Rapids School District lunch program. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
Betty loved her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Survivors include two daughters Donna Heyer of Cedar Rapids, and Melinda Packebush and husband Darin of Spirit Lake, Iowa, his parents Edward and Evelyn Heyer of George, Iowa, a sister Carol Labodie of George, Iowa, three brothers Wayne of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Roger of Nisswa, Minnesota, and Monty of Mankato, Minnesota, a niece Michele Heyer and nephew Daniel Heyer.
Dale was born October 28, 1945 in George, Iowa. He was employed by Alliant Energy as an electrician for 38 years and had worked at the Duane Arnold Energy Center. He served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War and had also served with the Air National Guard and the US Air Force Reserve. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 284 AFL-CIO.
