Doris Wood North

ISSAQUAH, Wash. - Doris Wood North, 84, of Issaquah, Wash., formerly of Keokuk, died at Overlake Hospital on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003.
She was born
on March 13, 1919, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Emil and Alice Wood.
She was raised in Kansas City and graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City in 1937 and from the University of Kansas in 1939.
She married
Ray S. North June 28, 1941, in Kansas City.
They lived in Keokuk and Clinton for 35 years before retiring to Bonita Springs, Fla., in 1984.
They moved to Issaquah in 1996.
In her leisure time she enjoyed traveling, cruises, RV traveling, quilting and spending time with her friends and family.
In addition to her husband survivors include: two sons, Edward North of Redmond, Wash., Charles North of Keene, N.H.; two daughters, Judy Wright of Bonita, Calif., and Carol North of St. Louis, Mo.; sister, Norma Glorioso, of Kansas City; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Sunday at the Pine Lake Convenant Church, 1715 228th Ave. SE, Sammamish.
Burial was in the Tahoma National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the above church.
Arrangements were handled by the Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home, in Issaquah.
Dorothy Darlene Brooks
Darlene Brooks, 71, of Keokuk, Iowa died Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at 6:31 A.M. at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa.
Darlene Brooks was born
on January 23, 1931 in Clark County, Missouri. She was the daughter of William and Vera Johnson Neves. She married
Delbert E. Brooks on January 23, 1947 in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1995. She had lived in Keokuk for most of her life and had been employed as a nurse’s aid at St. Joseph Hospital, Graham Hospital, and at the Macomb Illinois Hospital.
Survivors include a sister, Reba West, of Pittsburg, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Delbert Brooks, Jr.; one brother; and two sisters.
Graveside inurnment services were Monday, December 9, 2002 at Keokuk National Cemetery with Brother Bill Hauser officiating.
Paul Cecil Knoche
Paul Cecil Knoche, was stillborn at 5:36 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Keokuk Area Hospital.
Survivors include: his parents, Philip and Carol Knoche of Carthage; a sister, Kristina; maternal grandparents, Cecil and Iola Shipman of Carthage; paternal grandparents, Paul and Celine Knoche of Warsaw, Ill.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Tanya Renee Knoche.
Friends may visit the family at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Private graveside services will be held at Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage at a later date.
Dorothy E. Mearion
March 6, 1906 Sept. 25, 2003
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Dorothy E. Mearion, 97, of Washington, D.C., a former Keokuk resident, died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at the Fairland Adventist Nursing and Rehab Center in Silver Springs, Md.
She was born
March 6, 1906, in Keokuk, the daughter of John W. and Lulu McElroy Mearion.
She had been a resident of Washington, D.C., since 1941.
She had been employed at the Office of The Treasurer in Washington until retiring in 1972.
She was a member of the Trinity AME Zion Church in Washington.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and cousins.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Ronnie Braggs officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk.
Larry Michael Grice
Aug. 29, 1945 March 29, 2004
Larry Michael Grice, 58, of Keokuk died at 6:15 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
He was born
Aug. 29, 1945, in Keokuk, the son of Charles Richard and Olivia Rosencrans Grice.
He moved from Florida to Keokuk in 1995.
Mr. Grice had worked at the Keokuk Country Club as Golf Assistant and then owned Southeast Iowa Golf Cars.
He was a member of Keokuk Elks Lodge #106.
He was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins, University of Miami Hurricanes and the St. Louis Cardinals.
He loved the game of golf.
Survivors include: a daughter, Kimberly Minter and her husband, Jim, of Keokuk; twin sons, Keith Grice and his wife, Toni, of Florida and Kevin Grice and his wife, April, of Florida; four grandchildren; his mother of Keokuk; a brother, Gary Grice and his wife, Diana, of Keokuk; a sister, Becky Overton and her husband, Mark, of Mount Pleasant; and three nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his father and several aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Park with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating.
Burial will follow.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday at DeJongs Funeral Home with family meeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. A public Elks memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Elks Fairview Golf Course.
Bernadine Margaret Wilhelm

Bernadine Margaret Wilhelm, 88, of Keokuk, died at 6:51 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born
Nov. 7, 1915, in Burlington, the daughter of Charles and Ellen M. Peterson Carmichael.
She married
John H. Wilhelm on Jan. 15, 1943, in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1996.
She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Keokuk.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael Wilhelm of Mount Pleasant, and Stan Wilhelm and his wife, Doris, of Keokuk; and two granddaughters, Dr. Lisa Wilhelm Mossengren and her husband, Douglas, of Twin Lakes, Wis., and Katie Wilhelm of Keokuk
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Services were scheduled this morning at DeJongs Funeral Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Hoyt Whitebread officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk.
Visitation was Sunday at DeJongs Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church of Keokuk or Keokuk Area Hospital.
Marie Eileen Taulman
April 12, 1918 - July 30, 2004
Marie Eileen Taulman, 86, of Keokuk, died at 2:20 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born
April 12, 1918, in Keokuk, the daughter of Arthur L. and Marie E. Murphy Jones.
She married
Dale Van Zant. She later married
Eugene E. Taulman on Aug. 29, 1955, in Carthage, Ill. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1995.
She lived in Keokuk a majority of her life, with the exception of residing in Sioux City from 1968 to 1995. She had worked at La Charm Beauty Shop and was a member of the cosmetology group of Keokuk.
She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk and the Ladies of Charity.
Survivors include: a daughter, Teresa Roberts and her husband, Dennis, of Fort Worth, Texas; a granddaughter, Judy Roberts; a sister, Bernice McCarty of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Van Zant, and a brother, Lonnie Jones.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, Keokuk, with the Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating.
Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation is today at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk, with the family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian vigil service will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to All Saints Catholic Church or the American Diabetes Association.
Roy S. Sammy Adkins
Oct. 23, 1922 - July 30, 2004
Roy S. "Sammy" Adkins, 81, of Keokuk, died Friday, July 30, 2004, in his home.
He was born
Oct. 23, 1922, in Kirksville, Mo., the son of Jacob S. and Ruth O. Briddle Adkins.
He married
Doris E. Powell on June 1, 1948, in LaBelle, Mo. She survives.
Additional survivors include: a brother, Johnnie Lee Adkins of Montrose; a sister Willadean Shoemaker of Novinger, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Archie Adkins.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country with the HQ & SVC Co. 865th Engineer Battalion during World War II. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for campaigns in New Guinea and the South Philippines. He had been employed with the C B & Q Railroad for 45 years, retiring in 1982. He also sold insurance for MFA for 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 41, the V.F.W. Post 3508, and a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees affiliated with the A.F.L.-C.I.O. and C.L.C.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He enjoyed taking walks and fishing. He collected golf balls and the new state quarters. He left his family and friends with many fond memories. He will be remembered as always having a smile on his face. He had a good sense of humor and played many practical jokes on his family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and loved to attend family gatherings. His best friend was his little Yorkie, Cassie, who was by his side constantly.
Graveside services, with military rites, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Keokuk National Cemetery, with the Revs. Dale Thomas and Terry Lovell officiating.
Family and friends may meet at the Vigen Memorial Home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and travel in procession to the cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice or Keokuk Humane Society.
