James W. Burns
James Burns, 60, passed away on December 23, 2009. He was born
on January 18, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Sylvia and Mansel Burns.
He served in the United States Navy as a Radioman during the Vietnam War Era. Jim loved spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, and meeting lots of new people throughout his career. He drove 20 years for Barr-Nunn trucking company, and had almost 3 million safe miles driven, and also drove for 17 ½ years for Metropolitan Transit Authority.
James is survived by his loving wife Lynn, daughter; Melissa, son; Michael (Amanda) Burns, 4 grandsons; Preston, Dontez, Jason, and Cody whom he completely adored, and 1 niece, and 2 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Jerry Burns, sister in law; Shirley Burns, and niece, Marie.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th. A burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2009 at Southtown Funeral Home.

Clyde "Skip" Folsom
Clyde “Skip” Folsom, 86, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, due to complications of Lewy Body Disease. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:30 pm, on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 E. Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Skip was born
June 8, 1923 to Clyde Sr. and Helen Folsom in Des Moines. He graduated from Lincoln High School and served in the Army during WW II. Skip retired as a manager from Jacobson Warehouse in 1971 and was a member of the DAV. Skip was an avid golfer and, in his later years, would golf exclusively at Grand View Golf Course.
Skip is survived by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine “Geri” Folsom; children, Shannon (Gary) Enfield, Tom Folsom (Julie Peters), and Dana (Kendall) Soll; grandchildren, Michael Folsom, Jenny Enfield Dean, Ian Folsom, Mera (Todd) Logsdon, Jessica (Nic) Wycoff, and Kelli Soll; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Ellie; brother, Jerry (Millie) Folsom; sister, Carolyn Hart; many nieces; nephews; and beloved friends. He will be missed by his many friends and staff at the Iowa Veterans Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lesa Folsom; and brothers, Bill and Bob Folsom.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Iowa Veterans Home and all the great care they gave to Skip.

Andrew Ross
Andrew “Buster” Ross, 90, passed away December 23, 2009 at the Altoona Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Andrew was born
December 31, 1918 in Alberta, Canada to William and Bertha Ross. He graduated from East High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Andrew worked for Armstrong Tire and served as union president.
Andrew is survived by his niece, Barbara Detrick and many other loving extended family members. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betsy Witzenberg and his brother, Robert Ross.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
Evelyn Whitmarsh
Evelyn H. Whitmarsh, 85, went to her Lord on Thursday, December 24, 2009.
Evelyn was born
to Thomas Ernest Harvey and Evie Meek Harvey on June 19, 1924, in rural Clarksville, Tennessee. She worked for the civilian branch of the United States Post Office at Camp Campbell, Kentucky during WWII. She married
WOJG Oliver Zenas Whitmarsh at Macedonia Presbyterian Church on Sunday, October 29, 1944.
Evelyn was a consummate homemaker, lovingly devoted to her family. She was a strong woman of faith and member of Park Avenue Presbyterian Church. Through the years Evelyn participated in the adult choir, Presbyterian Women, was a prayer group organizer, in Bible Study leadership and support help for VBS. She enjoyed reading, sewing, painting, fishing and gardening.
Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Oliver; sons, Donald (Sue) and Alan (Cyndy) Whitmarsh; daughters, Margaret (Buddy) Thomas and Lisa (Dan) Peterson; and seven grandchildren. Also surviving her are siblings, Mildred Baker, Ann Keith and William Harvey.
Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers, Marvin, Robert Ewing and Garnet Harvey, and sister, Kathryn Weakley.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Park Avenue Presbyterian Church, 3120 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, with a 10:00 am Visitation.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to her church or Iowa Hospice in Johnston. The family would like to thank her doctor, Michael P. O’Conner, nurses and the compassionate staff at both Fleur Heights Center for Wellness and Rehab and Iowa Hospice.

Ed DeYoung
Eddie Eugene DeYoung, 59, went to join his passed family members and dog, Sonny, in Heaven on Wednesday, December 23, 2009. He was born
on August 30, 1950 to Jennie (Payne) and Edward DeYoung in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Sheri (Smith), his children, Brittany Telk and Charles Telk III, his siblings: Mary Goff, Connie DeYoung and Ron (Deb) DeYoung and his mother Jennie Hare. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward DeYoung.
Eddie began working for his father at DeYoung’s Meat Market where he became a journeyman meat-cutter. He then packed up his skills and worked for Hy-Vee as the meat manager for 34 years. When Eddie wasn’t cutting meat or working, he could be found outdoors; hunting, fishing or tinkering in his garage. His year was cut into four unusual seasons being bass fishing, duck hunting, goose hunting and turkey hunting or Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring respectively. Due to his zeal for the outdoors and all things fowl, he was an extremely active member in several organizations; The National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and B.A.S.S. In line with duck hunting, he was an accomplished dog trainer and won many awards for his handling in his younger years. He also enjoyed playing baseball or just throwing a ball around outdoors. Aside from his love for his family and outdoor sports, he was a die-hard NASCAR fan, rooting for any member of the Rousch racing team.
His love for the Lord and positive outlook on life inspired all who were lucky enough to meet Ed, and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am on Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Ankeny Church of the Brethren, 417 SE Grant, Ankeny, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Brethren Cemetery in Elkhart. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, at the church in Ankeny.

Robert Lepley
Robert Lepley, 86, passed away December 25, 2009 at Bright Kavanagh House.
Robert was born
September 4, 1923 in Tulare, SD. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Bronze and Combat Infantry Medals of Honor. He then went on to serve in the Air Force Reserves for 23 years. Robert lived in Des Moines since 1953 and worked as a funeral director for Hamilton’s Funeral Home, retiring after 35 years of service. Following retirement, he worked for Pioneer Hybrid for another 20 years. Robert enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Lepley of Des Moines; sons, Michael (Jane) Lepley of Urbandale and Robert (Angie) Lepley of Melcher Dallas; ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amanda the Panda.
Beverly Wade
Beverly Lee (Smith) Wade, 76, passed away from pancreatic cancer into God's presence in her loving home in San Jose, CA on December 23, 2009. She was born
in Des Moines, Iowa on June 25, 1933.
She was married
to Richard L. Wade Sr. until 2001 when he passed. Beverly moved to San Jose, CA in 1962 where she raised her family and worked and retired from Lockheed International.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard Wade Jr. and Ross Wade; her daughter, Pamela Grijalva; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She has left a legacy of love, family, faith and being a warrior. As she enters eternal salvation we thank the Lord for his gift of Beverly, for she was a gift too wonderful for words. She will be forever remembered by all those whom she touched and will be missed greatly.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. A visitation with the family present will be Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
Gayle A. Dybevik
Gayle Dybevik, 65, died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.
Gayle was born, July 17, 1944 in Elma Iowa to Anna and John Dybevik.
Gayle will forever be remembered for his generosity, his huge and kind heart and his energy. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and spending time at his and Diane’s lake house at Lake Ponderosa. He was a huge Hawkeye and Dodgers fan and enjoyed playing pool and cards.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane; daughters, Heidi Dybevik and Shannon (Russ) Grabbe; sons, Isaiah (Sheryl) Dybevik and Kris (Angie) Enos; grandchildren, Sofie, Anders, Shyann, Aiden and Teagan; sisters, Joann Partelow, Carol Schwake and Karen Streich; brothers, Donald (Jackie) and Daryl (Janice) Dybevik. He will also be missed by his many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ollie Dybevik.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. A visitation will occur Tuesday, December 29 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.

Ronald, Sr. is survived by his sons, Ron (Soni) Courtney, Jr., Mike (Gina Ivie) Courtney and Chad Sepich; sister, Donna Wolver; brothers, Fatso, Doodlebug and Johnny Courtney; grandchildren, Summer Franklin, Amber Matthews, Josh Matthews, Michael Courtney, Jr., Dayjah Ivie and Melinda Ivie; great-grandchildren, Tessa and Holden Gilbert; special friends, Fred Risius, Frank Halterman and Paxton; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
