Mary Durrence Moore, 85

Mary Durrence Moore, 85, died Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native was a former Miss Georgia in 1939 and had lived in this area all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Glennville First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Moore; sister, Betty Baxter and a brother, Brice Durrence.
She is survived by her son, Dail Moore of Glennville; sister, Eloyce Massengale of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 2, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Brown officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmie Baker Eagen, 76

Jimmie Baker Eagen, 76, passed away Monday, September 8, 2008, at her residence under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Miami for many years, prior to moving back to Jesup in 1988. She was a member of American Legion #267 and VFW Post #1590 and a true American Patriot.
She is survived by her husband, Charles A. Eagen of Jesup; children, Robert and Roberta Hughs of Jesup, Linda Lee Walker of Albany and Cindy Hughs of Jesup; brother and sister - in - law, Tommy and Peggy Baker of Albany; brothers - in - law and sisters - in - law, Charles and Gertrude Blaubert of New Jersey, Michael and Phyllis Eagen of Tallahassee, FL, Cathy and Tim Armstrong of New Jersey and Ruby Baker of Jesup; grandchildren, Eddie Hughs of Screven, Chris Hughs of Kissimmee, FL, Greg Hughs of Jesup and Justin Hughs of Ludowici; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 11, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, and the funeral services will be held Friday, September 12, 2008, at 11 a.m., from the Chapel, with burial following in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville is in charge of the arrangements.

Cola Estell Ward Holloway, 86

Cola Estell Ward Holloway, 86, died Friday, September 5, 2008, after an extended illness. The native of Emanuel lived most of her life in Stillmore. Cola enjoyed helping others, spending time in her yards working with her flowers, but her greatest love was spending time with her family. And her family felt that they had the best mama anyone could have.
She was predeceased by her parents, Willie and Lottie Mae Sutton Ward; husband, R. M. Holloway; son, Tim Holloway; great - grandson, William Floyd Jones; five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include David M. (Linda) Holloway of Leslie, Gail H. Daniels, Helen Hadden, JoAnn (Thomas) Clark, Susan (James) Youmans Jr., Patricia (Pat) Mikell, all of Stillmore; brother, John Nevil Ward of Statesboro; sister, Mary Ann Donaldson of Twin City; 23 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and three great - great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, September 7, 2008, at the chapel of Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen. Burial followed in the Stillmore City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Southern Care Hospice 2311 East 1st. Vidalia, GA 30474.

Letherea K. Waters, 87

Letherea K. Waters, 87, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2008, at Glenvue Nursing home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born in Tattnall County on September 3, 1921, and was a lifelong resident. She was a member of Mendes Baptist Church and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was employed with the Head Start Program and with the Tattnall County Schools food service program for many years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lonie D. Kicklighter and her husband, Oran Waters.
She is survived by her daughter and son - in - law, Sandra and Carroll Cobb of Glennville; son Jerry Oran Waters of Inman, SC; grandchildren, Joan C. and Brian Willis, Jeanie C. Norman, Angela C. and Jay Clark, Jeffrey A. and Tracy Waters and Jason O. and Sara Waters; ten great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 6, 2008, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville with Reverend Eric Rentz officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey A. Waters, Jason O. Waters, Jason Clark, Romie Kirkland, Gene Wilds, Jonathan Durrence and John D. Kicklighter.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Marlon C. Burns, 46

Marlon C. Burns, 46, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 31, 2008, at Yale - New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.
He was born to the late Catherine (Bryant) Burns on January 24, 1962 in New Rochelle, New York. He received his formal education in Burlington Township, New Jersey, Somerset, MA, Lombard, Illinois, and graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1980. He went on to Providence College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. He received Christ at an early age and was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burlington, NJ.
He married Laurie Costa on February 12, 1988. They were blessed with three lovely daughters. Marlon worked for Spencer Technology in Worcester, MA as a database manager until his untimely passing.
He leaves to mourn Laurie, Shannon, Amber and Katelyn Burns of Fall River, MA; his companion, Renee Acri and two daughters, Marnay Summer Acri - Burns and Catherine Rose Acri - Burns all of Worcester, MA; his father, Joel E. Burns; his step - mother, Donna of Dartmouth, MA; two brothers, Edward A. Mosley of New Bedford, MA and Bobby Norward of Pennsylvania; his maternal grandmother, Savannah Mae Simmons of Collins, GA, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 5, 2008, at Union Baptist Church in New Bedford, MA, with Reverend Steven E. Taylor officiating.

Margaret Calloway Eason, 88

Margaret Calloway Eason, 88, the Eason Family Matriarch, passed away peacefully at her residence, September 11, 2008, after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Eason, and her children, Hinton Loy Eason, Kathryn E. Sikes, A.D. Eason Jr., and James Carroll Eason.
Mrs. Eason was a homemaker whose greatest pleasure was seeing her family at her table. For 70 years, she made her home in the Undine Community and lovingly raised 14 children and many grandchildren who were placed in her care. Mama will be missed greatly by all of her family and friends. She was a long - time active member of Eason’s Chapel Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children, Judy Eason Wise of Claxton, Gerald “Jerry” and Johnnie Eason of Savannah, Linda and Charles Sikes of Collins, George “Bucky” and Connie Eason of Lizella, Julia and Jay Wildes of Hillview, Gayle and Donald Thagard of Ellijay, C. Paul and Linda Eason of Vidalia, Martha Jo and Mark Davis of Sioux Falls, SD, Tim and Teresa Eason of Claxton, Mark and Jane Eason of Athens and Ellen and Time Moncrief of Bogart; her sister and brother - in - law, Zelna and Otis Collins of Collins and her sister - in - law, Verna Calloway of Villa Rica; also by numerous grandchildren, great - grandchildren, great - great - grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 15, 2008, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Eason Family Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the Eason’s Chapel Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 753, Claxton, GA 30417.

Clarence C. Green, 77

Clarence C. Green, 77, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at his home. He was born in Tattnall County and lived in Savannah for many years before moving back to Collins in1984. He was a retired mechanic from the Georgia Dept. of
Transportation and a member of the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who also loved his dog Mitzi. He was an outdoorsman, who loved to deer hunt with dogs, fish, and work in his garden.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Rhiner Green of Collins; three sons, Larry and Donald Green of Collins and Coy Green of Ellabell; two daughters, Debra McCullough of Ellabell and Cathy Findley of Richmond Hill; four sisters,
Sydney Williams and Willie Mae Wills, both of Cobbtown, Dorothy Collins and Eunice Powell, both of Collins; eight grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with Elder Steve Taylor officiating. Burial followed in the Cedar Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rick Coley, Wesley Coley, Brett Coley, Danny Collins, Monte Collins and Curtis Rhiner.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of the services.

Edwin “Rock” Padgett, 64

Edwin “Rock” Padgett, 64, of Eastman, died Friday, September 12, 2008, in FairView Park Hospital.
He was a native of Tattnall County, had lived in Dodge County for the past 30 years, was a retired truck driver, a Baptist and son of the late Alma Martin Padgett and Doy Padgett.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Phagan Padgett of Eastman; son and daughter - in - law, Chris and Tanya Padgett; two daughters and a son - in - law, Donna Sue and Mack Morgan and Jan Conley, all of Eastman; three sisters, Jacquline Oliver of Vidalia, Joyce Padgett and Gloria Padgett, both of Reidsville; two brothers, Jerry Padgett of Reidsville and Johnny Padgett of Eden; nine grandchildren, Hunter, Kinsley, Tonya, Tyler, Brandy, Jennifer, Derek, Benton and Chris; three great - grandchildren, Aniston, Jacob and Railey, who was born on September 12, the day of Ed’s passing.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 15, in Stokes - Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Reverend Toby Skrine and Reverend Tommy Thomas officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Ms. Patricia Williams was pianist for the funeral service.
Pallbearers were C.B. Branch, Mike Clark, Gary Lowery, Leonard Miller, Daniel Pittman and Rocky Wingo. Honorary pallbearers were Norman Bonds, Burl Drury, Wayne Edge, Leonard Giddens, David Oxley, Wallace Padgett, J.J. White and Warren Southerland Jr.
Stokes - Southerland Funeral Home in Eastman, GA was in charge of the arrangements.

Harry “Jack” Cowart Sr., 74

Harry “Jack” Cowart Sr., age 74, of Vidalia, GA, passed away Monday evening, October 21, 2008, in Savannah Memorial Hospital in Savannah Georgia after an extended illness. A native of Tattnall County, he lived most of his life in Reidsville, GA. He served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Cowart is preceded in death by his parents, O.H. Cowart and Maudie Thigpen Cowart.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Reba Nell Cowart of Vidalia, one son Harry Jack Cowart Jr. of Blue Springs, MO, one daughter Janet Christy Collins of Cobbtown, one sister Joyce Kirkland of Griffin, GA; two grandchildren, Matthew Boney and Heath Boney.
Memorial services for Mr. Harry “Jack” Cowart Sr. will be conducted Thursday afternoon October 23, 2008, at 3:00 in the chapel of Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
Stewart Funeral Service of Vidalia is in charge of the arrangements.
