Veda Mae Driggers Burkhalter, 89
Veda Mae Driggers Burkhalter, 89, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. Two husbands, Homer Clifton Driggers and Tommy Burkhalter, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son and daughter - in - law, Edward and Deanna Driggers of Glennville; daughters and sons - in - law, Martha and Richard Kemp & Anna Dean and J.W. Sapp, all of Brunswick, Brenda and Stanley Swain of Glennville, and Dianne Conley and Lewis Waters of Claxton; step - daughters, Betty Burkhalter of Glennville and Joyce Grice of Hazlehurst; sister, Claudine Sands of Glennville; eight grandchildren, ten great - grandchildren, four great - great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Cason, Reverend Richard Kemp and Reverend Reuben Cason officiating. Burial followed in the Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Allen Sapp, Cliff Conley, Keith Swain, Daniel Driggers, Jeremy Kemp, and Jason Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Aubrey Sands, Raymond Lewis, Jerry Ray, Juan Driggers, Jane Driggers, Dottie Harden, Marjorie Wednicamp Marie Dubberly, Annie Bacon, Johnny Driggers, Naomi Driggers, Lonnie Skeens and members of the Ebenezer Church Adult Sunday School Class.

Amanda Parker Brown, 67
Amanda Parker Brown, 67, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Long County native had lived in Ludowici and Long County all of her life. She and her husband owned and operated Brown’s Grocery and Hardware in Ludowici for 28 years. She was a member of Jones Creek Baptist Church where she served on many committees and was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marlin L. Brown, Jr. and her parents, Ray C. & Margaret Calloway Parker.
She is survived by her daughter and son - in - law, Melissa and Damon Kennedy of Ludowici; brother and sister - in - law, Bobby Ray and Bobbie Ann Parker of Ludowici; grandchildren, Clint and Caleigh Kennedy of Ludowici; niece, Kellie Amanda Parker of Orlando, FL and several cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Jones Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Stokes officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Dasher, Eddie Dasher, Jimmy Parker, Mark Chesser, Darrell Balance, Marvin Deloach and John Long. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Jones Creek Church Adult Sunday School Class.

Mae Collins, 93
Mrs. Mae Collins, 93, of the Hillview Community near Collins, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at home under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Tattnall County native and lifelong resident was a homemaker and a member of the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
She enjoyed writing poetry and had two poems published in the National Poetry Society. She loved helping others, being a good neighbor and was a great mother and grandmother. Her pets were given the best of attention. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Collins and two sons - in - law, Albert Fulmer and Marvin Cowart.
She is survived by a son and daughter - in - law, Joe E. and Estella Collins of Corpus Christi, TX; two daughters, Sue Cowart and Lucy Fulmer both of Collins; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 24, at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Tom Deal and Rev. Gerald Dorr officiating. Burial following in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmie Conner, John Pate, Gabriel Collins, Christopher Collins, Anthony Fulmer and Glenn Shuman.

Deacon James Cook, 70
Deacon James Cook died November 19, 2007. He was born August 4, 1937, to Sam and Eliza Gordon Cook (now deceased) in Screven County, Dover, Georgia. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Simmons Branch Baptist Church in Screven County and later joined First African Baptist Church in Glennville, GA, where he served faithfully until his death. On November 18, 1959, he was united in holy matrimony to Joan L. Wilkerson. They were blessed with nine children. Joan preceded her soul mate in death on April 20, 1996. Deacon Cook retired from the Department of Transportation after 33 years of service. His favorite hobby was planting his fruits and vegetables. One of his greatest joys was to share the fruit of his harvest with others in the community.
He leaves to cherish his memories nine wonderful children: Evangelist Marcia (Michael) Anthony of Savannah, Pastor James A. (Delois) Cook of Olive Branch, MS, Evangelist Gigi (Roger) Love of Leesville, LA, Cynthia (James) Tillman of Glennville, Brian (Tomeko) Cook of Glennville, Monica (Prince) Richards of Lithonia, Marjorie (Joseph) Nesby of Newport News, VA, Anita Faye Cook of Glennville, and Veeda L. Cook of Lithonia; eight siblings: Seaborn (Nellie) Cook of Somerset, NJ, John (Mary) Cook of Neptune, NJ, Charlie (Dorothy) Cook of Glennville, JoeNathan (Coretha) Cook of Durham, NC, Elder William (Carolyn) Cook of Glennville, twin sister Lizzie (Rufus) Moody of Glennville, Eliza Gant of Savannah, and Ruth Graham of Newark, NJ; 21 adored grandchildren; goddaughters, Sylvia Belfield of Patterson, NJ, and Andrea McNeal of Glennville; two sisters - in - law, Annie P Wilkerson of Fort Valley and Betty W. Mincey of Glennville; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 24, at First African Baptist Church in Glennville. Interment was in First African Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jonathan Cook, Joshua Cook, Kevin Blake Jr., Samuel Cook, Brian Keith Cook Jr., Austin McCord, Justus Cook, and Alex McCollum.
Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of First African Baptist Church.

Lizzie Agnes Day Googe, 77, died Monday November19, 2007, at her home in Reidsville. The native of Appling County had lived several years in Brunswick before moving to the Tattnall county area. She was a member of the Holiness Faith, enjoyed cooking, fishing and spending time with her family.
Survivors: daughters and sons in law, Nancy Spikes, Bessie Worthan, Susan (Doyle) Tootle, Catherine Barton, Janice Washington all of Reidsville, Linda Kennedy of Jesup; son, Franklin Googe of Reidsville; brothers, Herman Day of Brunswick and Earnest Allen of Buford, SC; sister, Edna Day of Jesup; 28 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and two great great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 21, 2007, in the chapel of Morgan Family Funeral Home with burial in the Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Eugene “Gene” Lewis, 74
Eugene “Gene” Lewis, 74, died Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Hospice Savannah.
The Reidsville native had worked at Dixie Plywood and had retired from the Glynn County Public Works Department.
He is survived by his wife, Merita “Rita” Lynn Lewis of Springfield; a sister, Tommie Nell Sikes of Reidsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Graveside services were held 1:00 p.m. at Collins Baptist Church cemetery in Collins.

Cecil Rogers, 74
Mr. Cecil Rogers, 74, passed away Sunday morning at the Life Care Center at Wells Crossing in Orange Park, FL. The Coffee County native had lived in Clayton County, GA, for 25 years and moved to Reidsville in 1978. He was a US Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, and was retired grocery manager from Hill Shopping Center. Mr. Roger attended the Reidsville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Reidsville Grand Rascals. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Bussey Rogers.
He is survived by two sons and daughters - in - law, Larry and Marsha Rogers of Canton, GA and Sam and Debbie Rogers of Orange Park, FL; sister, Betty Jean Nederveen of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren, Martelle Marie Rogers, Eric Mitchell Rogers, Candice L. Leath, Jason C. Kennedy and Larry Wayne Rogers Jr.; three great - grandchildren, Cody Chatman, Kayla Chatman and Justin Leath; special friends, Louis and Wanda Lynn of Reidsville and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Wayne Rogers, Eric Rogers, Jason Kennedy, Lewis Imerson, Jack Hill and Jason Leath.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 29, 2007, at 2:00 from the Funeral Home Chapel with Senator Jack Hill officiatingl. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Lewis “Mose” Sapp, 76
Lewis “Mose” Sapp, 76, died Friday, November 23, 2007, at home. The Tattnall County native lived his young years in Candler County before joining the Air Force in 1948. He retired as a Master Sergeant and lived in Freeport, FL, until moving back to Candler County in 1999. He served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Mose became a Master Mason in 1955 and later a York Rite Mason and Shriner. He was a member of the Cedar Street Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ina Sapp and a grandson, Nick Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Carter Sapp of Metter; two sons, Steven Sapp of NC and Michael Sapp of Norman, OK; two daughters, Carol Wiggins of Milton, FL, and Lora Wilson of DeFuniak Springs, FL; two step - sons, Jim Anderson of Glennville and Anthony Anderson of Collins; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; seven step - grandchildren and eight step - great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 26, 2007, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial followed at the Cedar Creek cemetery with Masonic and Military honors.
Pallbearers were Dr. Galen Huffman, Jim Neal, Ed Kemp, Bobby Rigdon, James Lynn and Charlie Knight.
