SHELDON, S.C. -- Claude Walter Peeples, 96, died Sept. 16 at Eden Gardens of Beaufort.

The native of Hampton County was the widower of Mary Frances Peeples. He was a retired caretaker of Huspah Plantation and Brays Island. He was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church and served as a deacon and in other capacities.

SURVIVORS: two sisters, Jennie Peeples Grimes of Charleston and Alice Peeples Crews of Varnville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Frances P. Robbins

Mrs. Frances Peavy Robbins, 76, died Sept. 17 at home.

The native of Screven County was a longtime resident of Savannah and retired from First Union Bank. She was a member of Faith Primitive Baptist Church and the widow of Rupert Robbins.

SURVIVORS: a son, Wayne Robbins of Savannah; a daughter, Sharon King of Valdosta; sisters, Lois Coney of Savannah, Elsie Stafford of Newington and Bernice Mobley of Lakeland, Fla.; two grandchildren, Stacey Waldrip of Smyrna and Chad King of Valdosta; and a great-grandson, Colin Waldrip of Smyrna;.

VISITATION: 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Primitive Baptist Church, burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Earnest Rollison

MIDWAY -- Earnest Rollison, 72, died Sept. 16 at home.

The native of Columbia lived most of his life there and in Midway the past three years. He was a member of VFW Post 641 in Columbia and retired from the Army.

SURVIVORS: three sons, Jerry Lee Rollison of Midway, E. Karl Rollison and Johnathan Rollison, both of Columbia, ; a sister, Daisey Daily of Columbia; two brothers, Curtis and Otis Rollison, both of Columbia; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Carter Funeral Home, Oglethorpe Chapel.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home, Oglethorpe Chapel, burial at 2 p.m. in Beaufort National cemetery with full military honors.

Mrs. Helen Brown Scott, 82, died Sept. 16 at Candler Hospital.

The lifelong resident of Savannah was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: daughters, Mozell Blackshear and Margaret Scott, both of Savannah; sons, Leroy Scott Jr. and Wesley Scott, both of Savannah, and Sgt. Frank Scott of Korea; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

SWAINSBORO -- Robert W. Scott Jr., 72, died Sept. 17 at home.

The native of Emanuel County was an Army veteran and a retired civil engineer. He retired from L&S Car Care in Swainsboro.

SURVIVORS: a sister and brother-in-law, Sarah S. and Kerney Lamb of Swainsboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne S. and Helen Scott of Swainsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2 p.m. today in Swainsboro City Cemetery.

Patricia E. Sellers

Mrs. Patricia "Pat" Ellison Sellers, 50, died Sept. 15 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

The lifelong resident of Savannah was a nurse's aide.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Eddie Lee Sellers Sr. of Savannah; sons, Eddie Lee Sellers Jr., Emanuel L. Sellers and Tyrell E. Sellers, all of Savannah; her mother, Sylvia Gaines Ellison of Savannah; three aunts, Ella Bryant of Philadelphia, Iva Gaines of Pittsburgh and Addie Bartley of Guyton; and an uncle, Hally Gaines of Cleveland.

Maury D. Skipper

BAXLEY -- Maury D. Skipper, 87, died Sept. 16 at Appling Health Care System.

The native of Dodge County was a resident of Baxley the past 50 years. He was a retired truck driver and had been employed with Bax Steel. He was a Methodist and attended Hopewell Methodist Church.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Odessa Skipper of Baxley; three daughters, Loretta Hutchinson of Fayetteville, Fannie Mae Gibson of Albany and Brenda Battles of Baxley; two half sisters, Robbie Taylor of Cochran and Pauline Hancock of Bradenton, Fla.; four half brothers, Bill, Joe and Guyton Skipper, all of Cochran, and Pete Skipper of Macon; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 6-9 p.m. today at David E. Miles Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hopewell Methodist Church, burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

LYONS -- Mrs. Grace Stanley Taylor, 87, died Sept. 17 at Meadows Regional Medical Center .

The lifelong resident of Toombs County was a retired insurance agent and a member of Lyons First United Methodist Church.

SURVIVORS: a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Thurman James of Lyons; a granddaughter, Lisa Wallace of Dalton; and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Jones-Stewart Funeral Home.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lyons City Cemetery.

Abelino Toraya

Abelino "Lee" Toraya, 84, died Sept. 16 at Azalealand Convalescent Center.

The native of Graniteville, Vt., moved to Savannah seven years ago from Bridgeport, Conn. He was a supervisor for the Bridgeport Police Garage for 25 years before retiring. He was a member of the Alhambra El Poder Caravan No. 161 and a communicant of St. James Catholic Church.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Elizabeth Mary Szeman Toraya of Savannah; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lee and Rachel Toraya and Robert Toraya, all of Savannah; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and John Taylor of Bridgeport; a brother, Jules Toraya of Savannah; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.

ROSARY SERVICE: 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.

MASS OF CHRISTINA BURIAL: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church, burial in Catholic Cemetery.

William H. Whitaker

METTER -- William Herman Whitaker, 85, died Sept. 16.

The native of Candler County was owner of Whitaker Funeral Home in Metter and a member of St. Luke Independent Methodist Church.

He received his professional education at the Welch School of Embalming and Mortuary Sciences at Miles College in Birmingham, Ala. He also owned and operated funeral homes in Woodbine and Millen. For many years, he was an embalmer for Crawley's Funeral Home in Pembroke.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Margaret S. Whitaker; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Larry Gould of Metter; two sisters, Julia W. Smith of Cuthbert and Mildred W. Boston of Orangeburg, S.C.; three grandchildren, Joshua, Jared and Alison Gould, all of Metter; a brother-in-law, Ernest Boston Sr. of Orangeburg; four nephews, four nieces, five grandnephews, four grandnieces and a host of cousins.

VISITATION: 7-8:30 p.m. today at St. Luke Independent Methodist Church in Metter.

FUNERAL: 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Metter Intermediate School gymnasium (formerly Metter Middle School), burial in St. Matthew Baptist Church cemetery in Metter.

VARNVILLE, S.C. -- Rayfield Williams died Sept. 15 at Medical University Hospital in Charleston.

The native of Varnville attended the former North District Training School, Varnville, and was a member of Harmonia Baptist Church in Varnville.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Dollie Kearse Williams of Greensboro, N.C.; three daughters, Lougenia Williams, Cheryl Ann Williams and Rosalyn Harrington, all of Greensboro; two sons, James Edward Kearse and Rayfield Williams Jr., both of Greensboro; three sisters, Tescora Williams of Varnville, Evelena Terry of Syracuse, N.Y., and Ethel Lee Johnson of Early Branch; a brother, Onnie Lee Williams of Varnville; and four grandchildren.

VISITATION: 7-9 p.m. today at Washington's Funeral Home in Hampton.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harmonia Baptist Church with burial in Harmonia Cemetery.
