GLENNVILLE -- Jacquelyn Elizabeth Narcarti, infant daughter of Mark and Teresa Narcarti, died Jan. 5 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

ADDITIONAL SURVIVORS: a sister, Amanda Martin of Glennville; a brother, Mark Anthony Narcarti II of Glennville; paternal grandfather, John Narcarti of Glennville; maternal grandmother, Anne Martin of Ellabell; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

VISITATION: 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11 a.m. Monday in Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Billie M. Pittman

DALLAS -- Billie Marshall Pittman, 64, died Jan. 3.

He was born in Toombs County, Ga., and lived in Dallas for 32 years. He was a graduate of Vidalia High School and served six years in the Army. He pursued a career in aviation and was employed as a pilot by Delta Airlines, retiring as senior captain in 1996 after 32 years of service. He was a Mason and was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: two sons, Randy Pittman of Media, Pa., and Jeff Pittman of Houston; a daughter, Jane Pittman of Houston; two brothers, Jack Pittman and Wayne Pittman, both of Austin; two aunts, Inez Malin and Bobbie Harris, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandsons, Travis, Thomas and Daniel Pittman of Houston; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service, Vidalia.

FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Monday at Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service, burial in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Miriam G. Polk

VARNVILLE, S.C. -- Mrs. Miriam Gooding Polk, 80, formerly of Varnville, died Jan. 5 at the National Health Care Center in North Augusta.

She was born in Varnville. She was retired as a secretary with an insurance company in Sumter, where she lived for many years. She was the widow of John H. Polk.

SURVIVORS: a brother, Mikee F. Gooding of Hephzibah; and a sister, Juanita E. Gooding of Hampton.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Sunday at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton Chapel, burial in Varnville Cemetery.

Beatrice J. Ray

GLENNVILLE -- Mrs. Beatrice Jones Ray, 79, died Jan. 4 at Glenvue Nursing home.

The Tattnall County native was a homemaker and a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Regenia Pye of Reidsville; two sisters, Martha J. Ray of Reidsville and Pearl Durrence of Glennville; two grandchildren, Timothy G. Blocker of Reidsville and Melanie E. Stacey of Jonesboro; and two great-grandchildren, Amber Nicole Stacey and Matthew R. Stacey of Jonesboro.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Sunday at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, burial in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Phillip Ryals

JESUP -- Phillip "Nat" Ryals, 86, died Jan. 4 at home.

The McIntosh County native had lived in Wayne County most of his life. He was a Baptist, a retired farmer and avid wood whittler.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Opal Maulden Ryals of Jesup; two daughters, Barbara June Santoro of Montezuma and Lola Powell of Jesup; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. today at Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2 p.m. Sunday at Spring Grove Free Will Baptist Cemetery.

Len H. Sherman

Leonard H. Sherman, 72, died Jan. 4 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born in Bronx, N.Y. He was a member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was self-employed as a manufacturers representative in electronics. He was a member of Zerubbabel Lodge No.15 F&AM, the York Rite, the Scottish Rite, and the Alee Shrine Temple.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Angela Tarpley Sherman of Savannah; a daughter and son-in-law, Lyn S. Goldson and Derek A. Hayes of Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve A. Sherman and Suzanne L. Sherman of Richmond Hill; a sister, Elaine Bluestein of Savannah; eight grandchildren, a great- grandchild, two nieces and a nephew.

VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Sipple Mortuary.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Monday at Sipple Mortuary, burial in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park-East, with military honors.

Ada Lee Smith

VALDOSTA -- Ada Lee Smith, 80, died Jan. 4 at South Georgia Medical Center.

She was in North Carolina and had lived in Savannah before moving to Valdosta 19 months ago. She was retired from the Dietary Department of St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, and was a member of Cokesbury Methodist Church. She was the widow of Lubie Smith.

SURVIVORS: four sons, B.L. Smith, Javio Smith and Kelly Smith, all of Savannah, and Weldon Smith of Guyton; two daughters, Janice Mullis of Lake Park and Margaret Turner of Savannah; two brothers, Wilson Smith of Kelly. N.C., and George Smith of Hope Mill, N.C.; a sister, McCree Vause of Council, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Lumberton, N.C.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Monday at Biggs Funeral Home in Lumberton, burial in Smith Cemetery.

SEA LEVEL, N.C. -- Jane Fenton Atwood Snider, 89, died Jan. 3.

She was a former resident of McIntosh County.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Eda H. Gordon of Morehead City and Verra A. Roth of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, Jules Atwood Haneburger of Newnan, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Phoebe Snider Rives of Denver; a sister, Julie Atwood Hagan of Darien, Ga.; a brother, George Elliot Atwood of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Darien, burial in St. Andrews Cemetery.

Eula Mae Swain

ALMA -- Mrs. Eula Mae Swain, 81, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Jan. 4 at a Jacksonville hospital.

She was a native of Bacon County and lived most of her life in Jacksonville. She was a Baptist and a homemaker.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Linda Hughes of Bloomingdale and Brenda Grim of Coopersburg, Pa.; three sons, George Swain Jr., Gene and Denny Swain, all of Jacksonville; two sisters, Orlee Thornton and Pearl Medders, both of Florida; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at Deen-Jackson Funeral Home in Alma.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11 a.m. Monday in Rose Hill cemetery in Alma.

Estelle G. Tanner

DOUGLAS -- Ms. Estelle G. Tanner, 93, died Jan. 1 at Coffee Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Emanuel County and was a retired taxicab driver. She was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: daughter, Jackie Harrell of Douglas; grandchildren, Julie Mashburn of Claxton, Janet Nolan, Jill Corbitt, Jim Harrell and John Harrell, all of Douglas; eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL: was held 11 a.m. Thursday at College Avenue Baptist Church, Douglas, burial in Douglas City Cemetery.

George W. Thomas Sr.

George W. Thomas Sr., 58, died Jan. 4 at home.

He was born in Pompano Beach, Fla. He grew up in Sylvania and at an early age joined Cyprus Pond Baptist Church. In later years, he moved to Savannah, where he was employed at Georgia Ports Authority for 35 years.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Sharron S. Thomas; fours sons, Alvin Thomas of Miami, Timothy L. Thomas of Savannah, George W. Thomas Jr. of Atlanta and Marlin L. Thomas of Savannah; two daughters, Keshela Thomas Williamson and Alana L. Thomas, both of Savannah; ten brothers, Henry McDougle of Gainesville, Fla., Jerome, Gaston and Anthony McDougle, all of Pompano Beach, William McDougle of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Donald MeDougle of St. Lawton, Okla., John Thomas of Syracuse, N.Y., Joe Cephas Thomas of Pompano Beach, and Claude and Leon Thomas, both of Savannah; nine sisters, Rosa Lee Williams of Sylvania, Susie Lawrence of Savannah, Charlene Scott of Andover, Conn., Vivian Adams of Port-Orlando, Fla., Peggy Carter, Sharon Moore and Valerie Hunter, all of Pompano Beach, Ruth Jones of Fort Lauderdale, and Yolonda McDougle of Pompano Beach; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and other relatives.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, burial in Woodville Cemetery.

Marguerite Warfield

Marguerite Warfield, 95, died Jan. 5 at Candler Hospital.

She was a native of St. Louis and lived in Paris, France for several years. She spent the remainder of her years in Savannah. She was a resident of Tara at Thunderbolt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of William Warfield. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and received her master's degree in English from Columbia University in New York City. She was a longtime employee of Sperry Gyroscope Co., and was active in the Savannah Symphony, where she played the viola. She had organized many chamber music concerts in Savannah.

SURVIVORS: friends and family from Tara Nursing Center.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
