JESUP -- Geraldine M. Greenackel, 77, died Jan. 4 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The Wayne County native was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class. She was the widow of John Edward Greenackel Sr.

SURVIVORS: a son, John Edward Greenackel Jr. of Jesup; two sisters, Dorothy Hilton of Lancaster, Pa.; and Evelyn Brown of Augusta; a brother, Billy McBee of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Lillie Mae Harris

SWAINSBORO -- Lillie Mae Harris, died Jan. 3 at Doctors Medical Center in Augusta.

She was born in Screven County and lived in Swainsboro most of her life. She attended Emanuel County public schools and was a member of Ohoopee Grove Baptist Church in Nunez.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Jennie V. Phillips and Minnie Washington, both of Swainsboro; a son, Eugene Riddles of Swainsboro; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ohoopee Grove Baptist church, burial in Swainsboro City Cemetery.

Inez H. Haynes

JESUP -- Inez Hatcher Haynes, 87, died Jan. 5 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick.

She was a native of Seminole County and was a former resident of Donaldsonville. She had lived in Wayne County for the past 60 years. She taught school in the Wayne County Public Schools for more than 40 years and was a member and past president of the Wayne County Retired Teachers Association.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member and former teacher of the Susannah Wesley Sunday School Class, a member of the Wesley Singers Choir, The Keen-Agers and member and Secretary of Circle No. 4. She was a member of Wayne County Historical Society, a member and National Defense Chairman and past treasurer of the Altamaha Chapter of the D.A.R. She was a former member of the Jesup Garden Club.

SURVIVORS: a son and daughter-in-law, John S. and Lamonte Haynes of Coral Gables, Fla.; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Laura Haynes, both of Coral Gables.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Gordon-Harrison Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, burial in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Leo Hilligoss

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Leo "Jack" Hilligoss, 85, died Jan. 4 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.

He was born in Okmulgee, Okla. He had worked in the oil fields of the southwest and later Michigan. He also worked in the Maintenance Department at Detroit Public Schools and was a staff commander in the Detroit Police Reserves for 20 years.

He had served in the military during World War II in the 3rd Army, 35 division, 134th Infantry. H Co. He was a life member of the DAV Chapter No. 38 in Traverse City, the VFW Cherryland Post No. 2780, American Legion Post No. 161 (also known as the Detroit Police & Firefighters Post No. 161), the Masonic Lodge No. 474 in Lincoln Park, National Rifle Association, West Michigan Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He volunteered at the former Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital for many years and also at Munson Med-Care Walk-In Clinic.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Elizabeth of Traverse City; and a sister, Wilma Royal of Garden City.

VISITATION: 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Covell Funeral Home, Traverse City Chapel.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Monday at Covell Funeral Home, Traverse City Chapel, burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

REMEMBRANCES: Veterans group, local Alzheimer's or Grand Traverse Pavilions.

Charles E. Knight

LEEFIELD -- Charles E. "Charlie" Knight, 83, died Jan. 5 at home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.

The Bulloch County native was a retired insurance adjuster with Purcell Appraisal Service. He was a member of Lanes Primitive Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Verna Denmark Knight of Leefield; a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon Edward Knight and Judy Hagan Knight of Leefield; a granddaughter, Dawn Elaine Knight of Leefield; and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. today at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Sunday at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, burial in Lanes Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nora L. Lawrence

HILTON HEAD ISLAND -- Nora L. Lawrence, 61, died Jan. 1 at a hospital in Savannah.

She was born in Cleveland. She was a medical assistant and worked for Heritage Medical. She moved to Hilton Head Island in January of 1999. She was the widow of Francis Lawrence.

SURVIVORS: a son, David Lawrence of Parma, Ohio; two daughters, Carol Lawrence of Akron, Ohio and Linda Lawrence of Park City, Utah; and a brother, Jack Cervelli of Lakewood, Ohio.

MEMORIAL SERVICES: 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in North Olmstead, Ohio, with inurnment to follow.

BRUNSWICK -- Melba Louden, died Jan. 5 at her home.

She was a lifelong resident of Brunswick and a homemaker. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy in Brunswick.

SURVIVORS: four daughters, Stella Lee of Waynesville, Melissa Lambright of Brunswick, Maschel Wiggins of Blackshear and Deborah Scarboro of Brunswick; two sons, James C. Louden II of Brunswick and James M. Rowe of Ala.; sisters, Dora Jean Lane, Estelle Lewis, Mary Graham, Ellen Pearson and Maraian Bundl ; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. today at Church of God of Prophecy, burial in Glynn Rose Cemetery.

Margaret D. Maner

Mrs. Margaret Debele Maner, 96, died Jan. 5 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Savannah and was a 1927 graduate of Agnes Scott College. She was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church, KBA Sunday School, Tuesday Morning Circle and played the piano for the Men's Sunday School Class. She was guide for the Juliette Gordon Low Girl Scout National Center from 1969 to 1993. She was the widow of Dr. Edwin N. Maner.

SURVIVORS: a son, Dr. Frederick Debele Maner of Savannah; a daughter, Mrs. Cecil Gnann of Charleston, W.Va.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edwin N. Maner Jr. of Savannah; 11 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 3-5 p.m. today at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Drayton Chapel.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 4 p.m. Sunday at Independent Presbyterian Church, burial in Bonaventure Cemetery.

REMEMBRANCES: St. Joseph's Foundation or Independent Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

Dorothy Daughtry Mock

ROCKY FORD -- Dorothy Daughtry Mock, 76, died Jan. 4 at Aiken Regional Hospital in Aiken, S.C.

She was born in Screven County. She was a homemaker and a member of Douglas Branch Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: a daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Dan Jenkins of Richmond Hill; a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Marvin Mock and Teresa Mock of Rocky Ford; three sisters, Opie D. Finch of Portal, Lorraine D. Wilson of Millen and Tommie D. Howard of Sylvania; a daughter-in-law, Willette C. Mock of Rocky Ford; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

SERVICE: 3 p.m. today at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home in Sylvania, burial in Rocky Ford Cemetery.

Dorothy Grace Mock

Dorothy Grace Thompson Mock, 78, died Jan. 4 at home.

She was born in Sylvania. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. During World War II, she served as a spot welder for Mingledorff Shipyard.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Cecil Edward Mock of Savannah; a daughter, Sandra Harris Usher of Brooklet; a son, Chad Edward Mock of Brooklet; a sister, Betty T. Scott of Savannah; four brothers, john G. Thompson Jr. of Sylvania, Kelly D. Thompson and Don Wayne Thompson, both of Springfield, and Lavaughn G. Thompson of Statesboro; four grandchildren, 10 nephews, six nieces and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Sipple Mortuary.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Sunday at Sipple Mortuary, burial at 3:30 p.m. in Screven Memorial cemetery in Sylvania.

George E. Morgan

BRUNSWICK -- George E. Morgan, 61, died Jan. 3 at Sunbridge Health and Rehab.

He was born in Brantley County and lived in Glynn County for 21 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Nahunta.

SURVIVORS: three sisters, Vina Lee Stanfield of Glennville, Mary Helland of Palatka, Fla., and Mae Branch of Brunswick; a niece and a nephew, Ester and Odis Tucker.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. today at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home, Brunswick, burial in Rob Lewis Cemetery, Brantley County.
