Alan Ray Gatewood
Mr. Alan Ray Gatewood, age 61, of Locust Grove, Georgia died March 2, 2008. Alan was born
in Orlando, Florida. He worked most of his working career as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, golf, his tractor and farm equipment and traveling. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Linson Gatewood and a son, Michael Shane Gatewood.
Survivors are his wife of 20 years, Cindy Dunn Gatewood; children, Kenny (Angie) Gate-wood of Townsend, David Gatewood of Brunswick, Danny Gatewood of Locust Grove, Pete (Lucy) Widner of San Antonio, Texas ; mother, Frances Gate-wood of Brunswick; sisters, Vicki Cook of Orangeburg, South Carolina and Cathy McCosker of Brunswick; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 6 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Charles Thomas officiating. Interment Locust Grove Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Robert Eugene Carpenter
Mr. Robert Eugene Carpenter, age 77, died March 3, 2008. Mr. Carpenter was born
in Lincoln-ton, North Carolina to the late Connie Velma Childress and Howard Meek Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter worked most of his career as Vice President for a Commercial Laundry Manufacturer. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed being with his family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carlyn Abney and three step-children, Ronald, Richard and Stanley Tallman.
Survivors include: wife, Delvis Corelle Elliott Carpenter of McDonough; daughter, Laura and Phillip McLendon of West Columbia, South Carolina; step-children, Teresa L. Brooks of Hiram and Robert S. Tallman of Sharpsburg; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two nephews.
Services will be held at a later date. Haisten Funerals and Cremations in charge of arrangements.
Madeline Piper Upchurch
Mrs. Madeline Piper Upchurch, age 78, of McDonough, Georgia died March 3, 2008. Mrs. Upchurch was born
in Henry County, the daughter of the late Pearlie Lee Moss and Otho Clarence Piper. Mrs. Upchurch was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was a devoted homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family and friends. She enjoyed flowers, reading, collecting rocks, salt and pepper shakers, and owls. She was preceded in death by several siblings.
Survivors are her husband, Tyre Upchurch of McDonough; children, Dayna Mahaffey (Melvin) of Ellijay, Ken Upchurch (Wanda) of Marietta, Dennis Upchurch (Debbie) of Tampa, Florida and Robyn Ryan (Stewart) of Cumming; nine grandchildren; sister, Eunice McCart of McDonough; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 7 at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Al O’Quinn, Rev. Chuck Shepherd and Rev. David Ricks officiating. Interment Bethany Church cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Bill Henry
Bill Henry, age 82, of Stone Mountain, Georgia died March 4, 2008. He was born
in Pottsville, Arkansas to the late Mace and Violet Shinn Henry. He retired as a professor at Georgia State University and was a former professor at North Carolina State. He served our country with the US Army and retired with the National Guard as Major.
Survivors are his wife, Norma Wright Henry; son, William R. Henry, Jr. of Newport News, Virginia; daughters, Lisa New-house of Lawrenceville, Linda Ramsey of Marietta, Lara Chryssochoos of McDonough; nine grandchildren; and sister, Annette Mullens of Russellville, Arkansas.
Services were held March 7 at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church in McDonough with Rev. John Bancroft officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia 30253 and American Cancer Society, Southeast Division, 135 Bradford Square, Suite B, Fayetteville, Georgia 30215. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Emily Buice Britt
Mrs. Dorothy Emily Buice Britt, age 81 of McDonough, Georgia died March 5, 2008. She was born
in Gwinnett County to the late Hicks Bamon and Nannie Buena Wallace Buice. She served her country in the United States Air Force during WWII as an airplane mechanic. She retired from Williams Brothers Lumber and was a special needs bus driver for Henry County. She was an avid bowler who in her younger days enjoyed riding her Harley-Davidson motorcycle. She enjoyed the outdoors, sports, and especially spending quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alfred Britt in 1961 and by four sisters.
Survivors include her children, Eddie (Sandra) Britt of McDonough, Cindy Halacy of Utah, Gary (Sandy) Jones of Hawaii; grandchildren, Josh (Emily) Britt, Amber (Brian) Britt, Jenny Halacy, Holly Halacy, Danny Halacy, Dawn Jones, and Adrian Jones; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Grover Buice of Gwinnett, Leonard Buice of Villa Rica, and Gid Buice of Gwinnett; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 8 at the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Jenkins officiating. Interment Melwood Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Henry County Special Olympics in memory of Dorothy Britt. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Stephen Eardly Edward
Mr. Stephen Eardly Edward, age 43, died March 5, 2008. Mr. Edward was born
in Port of Spain, Trinidad. He was self employed as an electrical contractor. He was a member of ASA, enjoyed archery, an outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his dog, Rocky.
Survivors are his wife, Debbie Edward of Hampton; children, Kaili Wright of Tallahassee, Florida, Akemi Edward and Chris Edward of Hampton; father and stepmother, Eardly and Miriam Edward of Dela-ware; mother and stepfather, Verna and Mervin Small of New York; siblings, Marcia Austin, Wendy Naklid, Selina Edward, Nathan Edward, Shawn Edward, Ashin Edward, Corey Small, Robert Small and Ricardo Small; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 10 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in McDonough with Brother Dean Stowers officiating. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Cereta Reid Hamilton
Mrs. Cereta Reid Hamilton, age 55 of McDonough died March 7, 2008. She was born
in Griffin to the late Edward Colquitt Reid, Jr. and Agnes Mae Chalkley Reid. She was a member of the Hampton First Baptist Church and worked for the Clayton County Extension Service in the 4-H department. Cereta was an avid reader, enjoyed flowers, crocheting, and needlework. She was always known as a terrific cook.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 30 years, Stephen Paul Hamilton of McDonough; daughter and fiance, Joy L. Hamilton and David B. Maddox of Conyers; sister, Sandra McClung of Griffin; mother-in-law, Sarah Q. Hamilton of Jackson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 11, at the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Dr. Buddy Perstrope officiating. Interment Haisten/ Eastlawn Memorial Park. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
