BRUNSWICK -- Mrs. Dorothy O. Christian, 79, died Sept. 28 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Savannah and attended Risley High School in Brunswick, Dorchester Academy in Midway, Beach High School in Savannah and graduated from Madame Cargo Beauty School in Jacksonville, Fla.
She was retired owner/operator of Christian's Beaufort Salon in Darien. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Brunswick, served as a deaconess and sang in the Revival Choir.
SURVIVORS: daughters, Carolyn Willis and Hattie Holland, both of Brunswick, Dean W. Jenkins of Meridian and Veola Christian of Bronx, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Rose Espy of Seattle; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

James T. Elrod
ST. SIMONS ISLAND -- James Theodore Elrod, 47, died Oct. 1 at home.
He was born in Fulton County and was a resident of St. Simons Island the past two years. He was a professional artist.
SURVIVORS: his mother, Gloria Elrod of St. Simons Island; two brothers, Britt Elrod of Hortense and Johnny Elrod of Villa Rica; and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred C. Faulk
Mrs. Mildred Coleman Faulk, 78, died Oct. 1 at Tara Nursing Home.
She was born in Cadwell and lived in Savannah most of her life. She was the widow of Eston B. Faulk. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. She retired from Kmart and was an avid square dancing enthusiast.

Thorne of Savannah; sisters, Hilda Bonjorino of Clifton, N.J., Kimble Messick of Maywood, N.J., Faye McNear of Savannah and Shirley Coleman Taylor of Greer, S.C.; a brother, James Coleman of Savannah; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

BRUNSWICK -- Edith Marie Flanders, 90, died Sept. 30 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Indianapolis and lived in Brunswick since 1979. She was a display artist for 23 years for William H. Block Department Store in Indianapolis. She was a member of Coastal Center for the Arts on St. Simons, C.H.A.T. and First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick.
SURVIVORS: two sisters, Bhular Flanders and Edelle McCormick, both of Brunswick; and a cousin, Trish Arreondo of Crown Point, Ind.

Augustus "Gussie" Hargrove Sr., 77, died Oct. 1 at home under hospice care.
The Savannah native was a retired brick mason. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Speedwell United Methodist Church.

GUYTON -- Mrs. Ruby Fore Holland, 84, died Oct. 1 at home.
She was born in Gilmer County and lived in Wayne County before moving to Effingham County 20 years ago. She was a Baptist and a member of Ben Gibbs Order of the Eastern Star. She was formerly employed with The Pirates' House restaurant and Gottlieb Bakery.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Cliff Holland of Guyton; a daughter, Frances Fisher of Boston; two sisters, Ester Sims of Savannah and Allene Crisswell of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a brother, John McCorkle of Savannah; a granddaughter, Jessica Fisher of Boston; and a number of nieces and nephews.

WHEATLAND, Wyo. -- Guy M. Holmes, 98, died Oct. 1 at Bryan County Health & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Shenandoah, Iowa, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist in Savannah.
SURVIVORS: a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara J. and Kenneth Purvis of Richmond Hill, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred L. and Claudette Holmes of Heiskell, Tenn.; his stepmother, Hattie Utter; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Macon County native attended the public schools of Sandersville. She was self-employed and retired as an assistant to Dr. William V. Long. She was a member of Faith Deliverance Holiness Church and was the church mother.

LUDOWICI -- Mary Dunham Malcolm, 66, died Oct. 1 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.
The lifelong resident of Long County was a member of Jones Creek Baptist Church.

Warren H. Owen
HILTON HEAD ISLAND -- Warren H. Owen, 73, died Sept. 30 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The native of Rock Hill, S.C., graduated with high honors from Clemson University with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. He joined Duke Power Co. in 1948 and by 1978 was senior vice president of engineering and construction. He became executive vice president, engineering, construction and production in 1984 and executive vice president and assistant to the chairman of the board in 1991. He retired in 1992.
He was a member of various engineering societies. Among his honors were the Clyde A. Lilly Award for the Atomic Industrial Forum in 1981 for managing recovery efforts following the accident at Three Mile Island and the award for Outstanding Engineering Achievement from the North Carolina Society of Engineers in 1984.
In 1988, he received an honorary doctor of law degree from Clemson University. He was a former president of Clemson University Foundation and a past president of Alumni National Council. In 1994, he received the Clemson Medallion, the highest honor awarded by the university.
He served on the vestry and as senior warden for two years at All Saints Episcopal Church of Hilton Head Island. He served on the board of the Hilton Head Island Foundation and was on the board of Dolphin Head Golf Club.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Virginia Boulware Owen; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ginny and Jeff Hardin of Fairmont, N.C., Carol and Jim Alberto of Hilton Head Island and Suzy and Leon Gyles of Savannah; two sisters, Bobbie Oglesby of Anderson and Betty Williamson of Nashville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.
