Mary H. Shuster

Mary Syms Harris Shuster, 88, died Jan. 31 at Azalealand Nursing Home.

She was born in Savannah and was the widow of John Newman Harris, who founded the Johnny Harris Restaurant in Savannah in 1924. She was also the widow of Maj. Clare M. Shuster. She lived at Pine Harbor in McIntosh County for many years before returning to Savannah in 1990.

SURVIVORS: several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 11 a.m.-noon today at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Drayton Chapel.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2 p.m. today in Bonaventure Cemetery.

Kerry Ware

HAZLEHURST - Kerry Ware, 24, died Jan. 28 as a result of a traffic accident.

He was born in Telfair County and attended the Jeff Davis public school system. He was a Quality Control Supervisor at American Yard Products and a member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Grabrilla Kerryanna Ware; his mother, Angela Ware Mincey; a brother, Kodi Anware Mincey; and a companion, Savon McDowell.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at King Brothers Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.

SERVICE: 1 p.m. Saturday at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, burial in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.

Isaac J. Webb

TWIN CITY - Isaac Jones (I.J.) Webb, 84, died Jan. 31 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.

He was born in Emanuel County and lived most of his life in Candler and Emanuel counties. He was a retired farmer, a member of El Bethel Baptist Church for over 50 years and a deacon for the past 38 years.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Nell Daniels Webb of Twin City; three sons, Jack, Jerry and Ike Webb, all of Twin City; a brother, Edwin Webb of Savannah; three sisters, Mary Hefner of Atlanta, Cassie Harris of Savannah and Ida Miley of Statesboro; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. today at El Bethel Baptist Church, burial in church cemetery.

Mary G. Whetsell

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Mary Lee Griffin Whetsell, 77 died Jan. 26 in a local hospital.

She was a native of Hampton, S.C. and had resided in New York since 1963. She was a retired nurse's aide and cook. She attended the local public schools and was a member of New Hope Cornerstone Church in Mount Vernon, where she served on the Mother's Board. She was the widow of Lawrence Whetsell.

SURVIVORS: two sons, Willie Terry and Timothy Whetsell, both of Mount Vernon; three daughters, Janie Benton of Tuscon, Ariz., Evangelist Cheryl Johnson of Bronx, N.Y. and Patricia Aikens of Mount Vernon; six brothers, Elder Enoch Griffin, Peter Griffin, James Griffin and Geddis Griffin, all of Yemassee, S.C., Elder Joe Griffin of Georgia and Bishop Lonnie Griffin of Early Branch, S.C.; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

VISITATION: 7-9 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home, Yemassee, S.C.

FUNERAL: noon Saturday at Saint Jude Apostolic Church, Yemassee, S.C., burial in church cemetery.

Shirley T. Carter White

Shirley T. Carter White, 41, died Feb. 1 at Hospice Savannah.

She was born in Savannah and was a paraprofessional. She was a member of St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church and a member of No. 2 Church.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Lakenya Carter of Savannah; sons Tyree L. and Deshaun T. White, both of Savannah; her grandparents, Elizabeth Fisher of Miami and Bennie Fisher of Savannah; a sister, Thelma Williams of Savannah, a brother, James Carter Jr. of Savannah; and a grandchild.

Edward Verdree Jr.

Edward Verdree Jr., 62, died Jan. 31 at home.

He was born in Screven County and lived in Savannah for 16 years. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a graduate of Alfred E. Beach High School Class of 1956 and worked for the US Postal Service for over 15 years in the New York and Washington., D.C. area.

SURVIVORS: sons, Fernando Verdree of Columbus, Stanley Verdree of Atlanta, and Darien and Terrence Verdree, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters Carolyn V. Johnson and Maxine Yvonne Verdree, both of Atlanta, and Marsha A. Verdree of Savannah; and three grandchildren.

Herbert G. Zacher

BAXLEY - Herbert Godfrey Zacher, 93, died Feb. 1 at Appling Nursing Home.

He was born in West Richfield, Ohio, and lived in Appling County since 1997, coming from Miami, where he had lived for more than 40 years. He was retired from Sun Electric Co. as a mechanic and electronic instructor, after more than 40 years of service. He was also a private pilot and a member of Miami Masonic Lodge.

SURVIVORS: a son, James Wilbert Zacher of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Carol Snoberger of DeLand, Fla., Martha Zacher Crosby, Butch Wood and Darrell Zacher, all of Baxley; 12 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 1 p.m. Saturday at Billows Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Saturday at Billows Funeral Home, burial in West Richfield cemetery with Masonic rites.

LYONS -- Victoria Florez, 71, died Nov. 3 in Ft. Worth, Texas.

She was a native of Ft. Worth, Texas, and resided in Lyons since 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

SURVIVORS: 10 sons, Fred and Cruz Florez, both of Dade City, Fla., Ramiro Florez Sr. of Cobbtown, Baldemar Florez of Freemont, Ohio, Noe Florez, Ramon Florez Sr., Hector Florez Sr., Daniel Florez Sr., Rudolph Florez and Adolph Florez, all of Lyons; three daughters, Enedelia Juarez of Dade City, Amelia Portales and Ofelia Mayhem, both of Ft. Worth; three brothers and three sisters, all of Ft. Worth; 76 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

ROSARY SERVICE: 7 p.m. today at Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service in Vidalia.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, burial in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Carol M. Hooper

LINCOLNTON -- Carol Marsh Hooper died Oct. 20 at Lake Crossing Health Care, Columbia County.

She was born in Tennille and was a former resident of Shreveport, La., and worked as a cosmetologist. For the past 10 years she lived and worked in Lincolnton, maintaining beauty shops at Leah Plaza and Lake Crossing Health Care.

SURVIVORS: a son and daughter-in-law, William E. Hooper and Angie M. Hooper of Crocker, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Becky Tippitt of Denham Springs, La.; three sisters, Mary Pilcher of Augusta, Chris Leasard of Grovetown and Ida Dye of Savannah; two brothers, T.W. Marsh Jr. of Savannah and Rudy C. Lindsey of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2 p.m. Saturday at Beggs Funeral Home, Thompson.

Oree R. Horton

PEMBROKE -- Oree Reese Horton, 76, died Nov. 5 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.

She was born in Toombs County and lived in Bryan County the past 40 years. She was the widow of D.W. Horton and was a homemaker and a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: sons, Gary D. Horton of Guyton and Walter Darryl Horton of Ellabell; daughters, Bobbi Ussery and Patricia H. Bacon, both of Pembroke; brothers, Henry Reese of Santa Claus, Arthur Reese of Vidalia and Paul Reese of Claxton; sisters, Louise Threatt of Pembroke and Betty Kersey of Lyons; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

SERVICE: 1 p.m. today at McLamb-Morrison Funeral Home, burial in North Side City Cemetery, Pembroke.

Helen Johnson died Nov. 5 at home.

She was born in Savannah and was a homemaker and a Catholic.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Leroy Johnson Sr. of Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Leroy Johnson Jr. of Cleveland; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

GARNETT, S.C. -- Percy Lee Johnson died Nov. 4 in Walterboro.

He was born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
