Andrew Jackson Sr. died Jan. 31 at at Candler Hospital.
He was born in Clyattville and attended the public schools of Lowndes County. He lived in Valdosta and Miami most of his life.
He was a World War II veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an employee of Kroger Grocery Store and a member of Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church and the Usher Board.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Bernice Jackson of Savannah; two sons, Andrew Jackson Jr. of Columbus and Dan Jackson of Miami; two daughters, Madaline Thomas of El Paso, Texas, and Pearl Ross of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Rose Jackson of Valdosta; a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

STATESBORO - Ruby Edna Jones, 65, died Jan. 29 at Hospice Atlanta.
She was a Screven County native and a member of Charlestown United Methodist Church. She was a police dispatcher for the Screven County Sheriff's Department.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Greta Jones-Loving of College Park and Desiree Jones of Statesboro; a son, Terrence Jones of Norcross; three sisters, Elizabeth Doe of Augusta, Addie Lewis of Tampa, Fla., and Rosa Cone of Statesboro; a brother, Herman, of Saginaw, Mich.; a son-in-law, three brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

PEMBROKE - M. Edwin Jordan, 67, died Feb. 1 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church and was a former Pembroke City Councilman. He was a former volunteer with Bryan County EMS and a past member of the Jaycees. He was the former owner of Pembroke Propane Gas Co.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Nancy Jordan of Pembroke, three daughters, Jade Hendrix of Statesboro, Traci Hendrix of Nevils and Donna Dubberly of Glennville; two step-daughters, Linda Cox and Sharon Sutton of Pembroke; two sisters, Winona Shuman of Reidsville and Leita Couey of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

HAMPTON, S.C. - Viola Lovett, 100, died Jan. 30 at Harper Nursing Center in Estill, S.C.
She was born in Hampton County, South Carolina. She was a housewife and a member of St. John Holy Church in Nixville, S.C.
SURVIVORS: eighteen children: Nathaniel Gordon, Albert Gordon and Elease Singleton, all of Estill, Annie Jane Cylear of Hampton, S.C., Luenitta Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va., Alice Kelly, Pauline Brunson, Hubert Gordon and Roosevelt Gordon, all of New Jersey, Ronnie Lovett, Milton Lovett and Johnnie Lovett, all of Clyo, Edgar Lovett of Atlanta, Susie Mae Woods and Geneva Daughter, both of Daytona, Fla., Thelma Louise Cross of Rebecca, Rosezina Kennedy of New York and Edith Adams of Savannah; 69 grandchildren, 105 great-grandchildren and 46 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

BLUFFTON - John Henry Martin, 104, died Jan. 31 at Hilton Head Medical Center.
He was born in Bluffton and attended Beaufort County public schools. He was a member of St. Stephens AME Church in Hardeeville and was a retired merchant.
SURVIVORS: five daughters, Mary Riley of Bluffton, Margaret Martin of Philadelphia, Irabell Johnson, Mildred Redman and the Rev. Vivian Jones, all of Baltimore; four sons, Philip Martin and James Martin, both of Baltimore, Cmdr. Jacob Martin of Bluffton and Judge Daniel Martin of Charleston; 43 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Lula T. McAlhaney
DOERUN - Lula Deborah Tuten McAlhaney, 96, died Jan. 31.
She was born in Grays, S.C. She moved from Varnville, S.C., in 1937 to St. Helena Island, S.C. She was a charter member of St. Helena Baptist Church and remained active in the church until she moved to Doerun in 1998 to live with her daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winbon Cape McAlhaney.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Doris Burke of Doerun and Lorraine Boeyen of Kissimmee, Fla.; a son, Winbon H. McAlhaney of Distant Island; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

EULONIA - Evangelyn Palmer, 27, died Jan. 27 at her home.
She was born in Glynn County, Georgia. She was a 1992 graduate of McIntosh County Academy in Darien and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Eulonia.
SURVIVORS: her parents, Maggie and Leotis Palmer Sr. of Eulonia; a sister, LaToys Palmer of Eulonia; two brothers, Leotis Palmer Jr. of the U.S. Air Force Academy and Aldrin Palmer of Eulonia; her grandparents, Lucille Reed of Eulonia, Annie B. Palmer of Eulonia, Mr. and Mrs. David Reed Sr. of Shellman Bluff.

Kathryn O. Parker
Kathryn O'Neill Parker, 83, died Feb. 1 at Hospice Savannah.
She was a lifelong resident of Savannah. She was a life member of Calvary Baptist Temple, a member of the Busy Bee's Children Group at church, Willing Workers and a Girl Scout Leader. She was a homemaker and was the widow of John W. Parker Jr.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Kathryn Patty Corley of Savannah; and Elizabeth Kitzmiller of Clifton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and a number of nieces and nephews.

Nellie M. Powell
GLENNVILLE - Nellie Daughtry Murry Powell, 90, died Jan. 31 at home under care of Hospice.
The Liberty County native lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church. She was retired from civil service at Fort Stewart after 26 years and was a member of the Golden Age Club.
SURVIVORS: two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorian and Billy Proctor of Glennville, and Vernell M. Fort of Baxley; nine grandchildren 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Frances Raymond, 103, died Jan. 28 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Decatur County and lived in Bulloch County for many years. She was a member of the Concerted Services senior citizens group.

BRUNSWICK - Vera Mae Anderson Reger, 77, died Jan. 29 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of United Pentecostal Church and was a welder during World War II at the shipyard in Brunswick.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Joyce Woods of Blacksburg, S.C., and Velma R. Lynn of Brunswick; a sister, Myrtis Anderson Green of Brunswick; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
