SUMMERTOWN--Funeral for Rita A. Tyler was held Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. Galilee Baptist Church in Summertown with Rev. Patrick Jones officiating and Rev. Isaac Culbreth assisting. Burial was in St. Galilee cemetery in Summertown. She died Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center.
Miss Tyler was the daughter of the late Rev. Alton Tyler and Barbara Tyler. She was born on Aug. 18, 1952 in Bibb County and was educated in the public schools of Dallas, Texas. She attended University of Texas in Denton, Texas; Bishop College in Dallas, Texas; and Savannah State College in Savannah. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and St. Galilee Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She served as pianist for many churches in the area and was self-employed as a music instructor. Preceding her in death was a brother, Clarence Berkley Tyler.
Survivors include her mother, Barbara Tyler of Summertown; uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers were counsins and Jorgresan Mortuary staff.

Evie L. Thomas, 63
SCOTT--Funeral services for Evie L. Thomas, 63, was held Saturday, May 15, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with Rev. Ed Ellington officiating. She died Wednesday, May 12, 2004.
Born in Johnson County, Mrs. Thomas was the daughter of the late W.C. Chambers. She attended Scott Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Hadden Thomas.
Survivors include her mother, Lizzie A. Chambers of Wrightsville; a daughter, Kim Page of Scott; a brother, James T. Chambers of Norfolk, Va.; four sisters, Ellen Smith and Lillie Ellington of Dublin; Nell Schwitzer of Ogden, Utah; and Dale Pulliam of Greenville, N.C .; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Skip Bozeman, Ed Ellington, III, James Page, Jr., Richard Baker, Joe Martin and Robert Thomas.

Joyce Lipsitz Agress, 76
AUGUSTA--Graveside service for Joyce Lipsitz Agress, 76, was held Monday, May 17, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta with Rabbi Sanford Marcus officiating. She died Thursday, May 13, 2004 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Augusta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan S. Agress.
Mrs. Agress was a native of Glennvile and attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. She was co-owner of Maxwell's Department Store in Swainsboro with her husband for over 20 years. The store is now owned by their son, Robert Agress, and has continued in business for over 40 years. Mrs. Agress resided in Augusta for the past 12 years and was a member of Walton Way Temple. She participated in many charities.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Agress Miller of Santa Maria, Calif; her son, Robert Agress of Swainsboro; and two grandchildren.

Elizabeth Culbreth Roberson, 53
TWIN CITY--Funeral for Elizabeth Culbreth Roberson, 53, was held Sunday, May 9, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. at Durden Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Twin City with Rev. Bennie Brinson officiating. Burial was in Willow Springs Church Cemetery. She died Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center.
Ms. Roberson was born Sept. 16, 1950 to George W. Culbreth Sr. and the late Hazel Mincey Culbreth. She was educated in Emanuel County School System and was a member of Durden Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Linda Culbreth of New Haven, Conn.; Martha Culbreth of Twin City; Gladys Boyd of Waynesboro; and April Howard of Metter; five brothers, George Culbreth Jr. of Swainsboro; James Michael Culbreth of of Holly Springs, Miss.; Ed T. Culbreth of Athens; Wayne B. Culbreth of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Kelvin Culbreth of Jacksonville, Fla.
Pallbearers were Artie Fields, Joe Cephus, Frank Brown, Jerry Milton, Jerry Sherrod, Arthur Culbreth, Joel Culbreth, Willie Bynes and Lee Arthur Williams.

R. Michael Caldwell
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA.--R. Michael Caldwell died suddenly on Tuesday, May 11, 2004. Mike was a true southern gentleman in every sense of the word. He grew up and attended high school in Swainsboro, Georgia and graduated from Troy State University in Alabama in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration where he also played varsity football and golf. He also attended a number of other universities in Florida to further his education in banking.
He was well known in the Palm Beaches for his banking experience and expertise as well as his involvement in the civic and sports community. He started his banking career in Atlanta in 1972 and remained there until 1976 when he and his wife, Becky moved to Palm Beach County. He started as Assistant Cashier and Branch Manager of Bank of Palm Beach and Trust Company. He then joined First National Bank in Palm Beach where he became Senior Vice President and Regional Administrator. In 1985, he became Executive Vice President of First American Bank and left in 1986 to become President of Colonial Trust National Bank.
He then became the Administrator and Business Manager of the law firm of Searcy, Denney, Scarola, Barnhart & Shipley, P.A., until 1991. Thereafter, he became Senior Vice President of Jupiter Tequesta National Bank and later, President of Advantage Bank (now 1st United Bank) in North Palm Beach and Lantana. Mike also served on a number of civic and cultural boards, including past Director and Treasurer of the Palm Beach Opera, past Treasurer Jupiter Tequesta Rotary Club, past Director of the YMCA of Palm Beach County and the Children's Home Society of Florida and past Chairman of the Finance Committee of the U. S. Amateur Golf Championship. Mike loved sports and coached many kids in baseball and basketball for many years in North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, and at St. Clare Catholic School. All of the 'kids' coached by him loved him dearly. Mike always gave unselfishly of himself for the 'kids'.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Becky; his son, Cam, a baseball player at Georgia Southern; and daughters, Christie and Kelly. He also is survived by his parents, Bob and Carolynn Caldwell of Swainsboro.; his 'in-laws,' Bates and Eleanor Bowers of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; his sisters: Pamela Caldwell of Swainsboro; and Sharon Manning and husband Billy of Alamo; nephews and spouses, Scott Moore of Bellville; Mike and Christy Womack of Swainsboro; and Trent and Olivia Womack of Edmond St. Bury, England; niece, Amanda Greenway of Swainsboro; great nephews and nieces Megan Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Kent Womack and Cory Braddy of Swainsboro; and Anna Nicole Womack and Trent Womack Jr. of Edmond St. Bury, England; a special family friend, Lori Vallario; numerous other family members; and an enormous amount of friends whose lives he has deeply touched.
A memorial service was held at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Clarence Thompson officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to The Cam Caldwell Educational Trust Fund, c/o George E. Harris, P.A. James Colton Logan Sr., 74
FORT VALLEY--Graveside service for James Colton Logan Sr., 74, will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Oaklawn cemetery at 3 p.m. He died Sunday, May 16, 2004.
Mr. Logan was born in Emanuel County and had lived in Fort Valley since 1971. He spent 36 years as an energy systems mechanic with Armstrong World Industries and served in the 509th Bomb Wing of the Army Air Corp. He was a member of Fort Valley Lodge #110, Peach County Shrine Club, York Rite in Fort Valley, Shrine Club of Macon, Scottish Rite of Macon and Fort Valley Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Williams Logan of Fort Valley; children, James C.Logan Jr. of Lizella; Steven P. Logan of Fort Valley; Michael P. Logan of Mesa, Ariz.; Terry L. Logan of Macon; Robert F. Logan and Kenneth E.Logan of Fort Valley; sisters, Clara Mae DuBose of Dublin; Wilma Babin of Smyrna; Faye Joyce Grissom of Macon; and Brenda Waddell and Lounetta Lee of Savannah; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Byron Bert Lewis, 73
LOUISVILLE--Graveside service for Byron Bert Lewis, 73, was held Sunday, May 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Louisville City cemetery with Rev. Pat Mahan and Rev. Ed Dean officiating. He died Thursday, May 13, 2004 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Lewis was born in Richmond County to the late Byron Bert Lewis and Elizabeth Rowland Bethea. He was a salesman for Fulghum Industries, a Methodist and had served in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Bunn Lewis of Louisville; a son, Ron Lewis of Pembroke; two daughters, Penny McNeely of Louisville; and Kathy Rushing of Brooklet; and four grandchildren.

Wiley "Snookum" Edenfield, 84
SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Wiley "Snookum" Edenfield, 84, was held on at the Chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary at 11 a.m. Monday, May 31, 2004 with Elder Tommy Rountree officiating. Burial was in Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. He died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mr. Edenfield was a native of Emanuel County and the son of the late William Edenfield and Annie Page Edenfield. He was preceded in death by sisters Alma Curl, Veda Lewis and Lois McClain and brothers Ted Edenfield and Roy Edenfield. Mr. Edenfield was a WWII Army Veteran. He worked with Texgas and Elroy Turpentine Company.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary Lou Willis and Jean Clifton of Swainsboro; and Billie Lanier of Metter.; and a brother, Jake Edenfield of Twin City.

Eloise M. Newsome Edenfield, 83
SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Eloise Marsh Newsome Edenfield, 83, was held Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Jamie Archer and Father Vic Subb officiating. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery. She died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Emanuel Medical center after an extended illness.
Mrs. Edenfield was born Sept. 10, 1920 to the late Herbert and Sara Ida Coleman Marsh. She was the wife of the late Mallory Rayburn Edenfield. She was a seamstress, a member of Blundale Baptist Church and the Women's Auxiliary of the V.F.W. She was preceded in death by a son, R.W Newsome.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lynwood and Alma Newsome of Swainsboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Al Vasquez of Swainsboro; a brother, Herbert Raymond Marsh of Miami,. Fla.; two sisters, Eudelle Clark of Swainsboro; and Ruby Willis of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Christine E. Harris Kolb, 97
SWAINSBORO--Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary announces the death of Christine E. Harris Kolb, 97, on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at the Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Rev. Wayne DeFore officiating. burial will be in Oklahoma City, Okla. at a later date.
Mrs. Kolb was a native of Bowie County, Texas, and was retired from the Social Security Administration. She was a member of the Swainsboro First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. While living in Oklahoma City, OK Mrs. Kolb was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church and a volunteer with St. Andrews Hospital with over 3000 volunteer hours. She was wife of the late Louis Kolb.
Survivors include two nephews and two nieces, Mark Francis of Swainsboro; and Wendell and Harriett Harris of Santa Fe, N.M.; and Helen Key of Swainsboro.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Organ Fund, Swainsboro.

Connie Davis Meeks, 55
KITE--Funeral for Connie Davis Meeks, 55, was held Friday, May 28, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Kite Church of God with Rev. Allen Meeks officiating. Burial was in the Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church cemetery near Kite. S he died Monday, May 24, 2004, at her residence after a brief illness.
Mrs. Meeks was a native of Emanuel County and a member of the Kite Church of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Amanda Thigpen of Swainsboro; and Dawn Tapley of Vidalia; two sons, Tim Tapley of Kite; and Chris Tapley of Tenn.; three sisters, Joan Morgan and Debbie Averett of Dellwood; and Wanda Howell of Kite; one brother, Keith Davis of Gibson; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
