Pauline Williams, 72

SWAINSBORO--Graveside service for Mrs. Pauline Williams, 72, was held Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Wheeler cemetery in Kite with Rev. Kelmer Durden officiating. She died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at Emanuel Medical Center.
Mrs. Williams, formerly of Jacksonville, Fla., had lived in Emanuel County since 1991. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four sons, Wayne Poole, Edward Poole, J.L. Poole and James Poole, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Nancy Holtzlander and Betty Mason, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Ovid Lumpkin of Georgia; and numerous grandchildren.
Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Eugene Dorsey Hackle, 86

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Eugene Dorsey Hackle, 86, was held Saturday. Nov. 15, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Rev. Kelmer Durden officiating. Burial was in Sims Warren cemetery in Stillmore. He died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 at Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mr. Hackle was a native of Emanuel County and was retired owner and operator of Hackle's Garage. He was the son of the late Ed and Sallie Riner Hackle and husband of the late Annette Snipes Hackle.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Johnson of Millen; a son, Tony Amerson of Stillmore; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Hadden, Gene Hadden, Billy Hackle, Bud Hackle, Jim Harrell, Bruce Woods and Randy Wilkerson.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

J. Howard Quarles, 86

TWIN CITY--Funeral for j. Howard Quarles, 86, was held Friday, Nov.. 14, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Twin City First Baptist Church with Rev. Franklin Sasser and Elder Tommy Rountree officiating. Burial was in Eastview cemetery in Edgefield, S.C. He died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Quarles was born April 17, 1917 to the late John W. and Fannie Joe Strom Quarles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Rhoden Quarles. He served in the Armed Forces in World War II and was part of the Army that landed on Normandy Beach. He was cofounder of Twin City Manufacturing Company where he served as president from 1946 to 1991 when he retired. Mr. Quarles was also a former mayor of Twin City. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, a member of Calvary Men's Sunday School Class and served as treasurer for many years. He was on the board of directors at Durden Banking Company, a charter member of Twin City Lions Club, a Mason and Shriner. He was former director of Emanuel Medical Center; past member of Emanuel County Development Authority; and past president of Twin City Development Authority.
Survivors include three sisters, Sara Coleman of Pacolet, S.C.; Ruth Hair of Greenwood, S.C.; and Martha Pearl Quarles of Edgefield, S.C.
Pallbearers were Lee Rountree, Wayne Collins, Clarke Dixon, Shane Scarboro, Tommy Durden, Rusty Simmons and Andy Walden. Honorary pallbearers were members of Calvary men's Sunday School Class, deacons of Twin City First Baptist Church, Durden Banking Company board of directors, Alton Simmons, Tim Cockfield and Toby Wells.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Burwell Jordan Drew Jr., 72

MIDVILLE--Funeral for Burwell Jordan Drew Jr., 72, will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Byrd officiating. He died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 at the VA Medial Center in Augusta.
Mr. Drew was born in Jenkins County and had lived in Midville most of his life. He retired from Southern Railroad in 1983 as railroad engineer. He was a United States Navy veteran and a member of Midville First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Drew of Midville; four sons, Platt Drew of Palatka, Fla.; and Don Drew, Jody Drew and Doug Drew of Midville; two brothers, Edwin Thomas Drew of Midville; and John Drew of Swainsboro; a sister, Ouida Davis of Louisville; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Tomlinson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Danny Louis Greenway Jr., 34

BROOKLET--Funeral for Danny Louis Greenway Jr., 34, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Swainsboro First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Blankenship and Rev. Emory Fennell officiating. Burial will be in Swainsboro City Cemetery. He died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 at his residence.
Mr. Greenway was born Dec. 4, 1969 in Richmond County to Danny L. and Sandra Faye Waller Greenway. He was working with Commdoc Business Systems where he was an office machine technician. He was a graduate of Swainsboro High School and Swainsboro Technical College.
Survivors include his daughter, Meagan Alyssa Greenway of Brooklet; his parents, Danny L. and Sandra Greenway of Swainsboro; a companion, Gloria Jordan of Brooklet; two brothers, Brian Greenway of Swainsboro; and Brent Greenway of Athens; and a stepdaughter, Haley Jordan of Brooklet.
Pallbearers will be Bill Lewis, Gene Hadden, Jimmy Morris, Brian Scott, Jack Waller, Bengie Pardue, Mickey Sands and Milton Edenfield.
Southern Heritage Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Dontay Davon Cuyler, 7

SWAINSBORO-Funeral for Dontay Davon Cuyler was held Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at 1 p.m. at St. Philip Baptist Church with Pastor Larry McMillan officiating. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery. He died Dec. 6, 2003 at his home.
Dontay was born Feb. 14, 1996. He attended school at Swainsboro Primary School and Mamie Lou Gross in Woodbine. He joined the Bible Time Deliverance Center in Statesboro and also attended New Hope Baptist Church of Woodbine.
Survivors include his parents, Eugene Charles Cuyler and Lawanda Jean Cuyler of Swainsboro; two brothers, JaQuon Cuyler of Swainsboro; and RaeKwon Cuyler of Wadley; maternal grandparents, Pastor Larry and Cathlene McMillan of Stillmore; fraternal grandmother, Ms. Vivian Cuyler of Swainsboro; and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Vinell Cuyler of Swainsboro.
Pallbearers were Ben Robinson, Danny Golden, Mike Hensley, Al Houston, John Madison and James Kelly.
Mosely Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

James Jordan George Sr.

GAITHERSBURG, MD.--Funeral for James Jordan George Sr. was held Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville, Md. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. He died Tuesday, dec. 9, 2003.
Mr. George was a native of Emanuel County. After leaving, he fondly looked forward to his visits there. He was the husband of the late Shirley Ann George and father of the late James Jordan George Jr.
Survivors include three daughters, Janet George, Gina Drecktrah and Teri Morton; a son, John George; and seven grandchildren.
Pumphrey Funeral Home of Bethesda, Md. had charge of arrangements.

Debra Denise Rogers, 45

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Mrs. Debra Denise Rogers, 45, was held Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Blundale Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Archer and Rev. Bunny Hudson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at Medical College of Georgia following an extended illness.
Mrs. Rogers was born Oct. 21, 1958 in Canton, Ohio. She was the daughter of Thomas Fryburger and Ella Mae Barwick. She was a homemaker and a member of Blundale Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, J.R. Rogers of West Minister, S.C.; a son, Joey Fryburger of Swainsboro; a daughter, Renee Nicole Fryburger of West Minister, S.C.; three brothers, Thomas P. Fryburger and George Allen Fryburger of Augusta; and Russell Dale Fryburger of Udora, Kansas; a sister, Mrs. Linda Ruth Darnell of Beverly, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Brian Poole, Glenn Jones, Mich Newsome, Lynwood Newsome, Gene Willis, Gray Welch and Danny Peebles.

Robert L. Arrington, Sr., 82

WADLEY--Memorial services for Robert L. Arrington Sr., 82, were held Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Louisville with Rev. Pat Mahan officiating. He died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at the VA Medical Center in Augusta.
Mr. Arrington was born Dec. 8, 1921 in Louisville to the late Gordon and Julia Welcher Arrington. He was a member of Louisville Methodist Church and was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Olivia Smith Arrington of Wadley; two sons, Robert L. Arrington Jr. of Swainsboro; and Perry Arrington of Atlanta; a daughter, Shelia Boyd of Atlanta; a niece, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jessie L. Gillikin, 81

COLUMBUS--Funeral for Mrs. Jessie L. Gillikin, 81, was held Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Twin City with Rev. Brad Shicks, Rev. Mike Holt and Rev. Franklin Sasser officiating. Burial was in Twin City Cemetery. She died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at her residence.
Mrs. Gillikin was a native of Columbus, Miss. She was a member of Wenton Baptist Church of Columbus and former member of Twin City First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William V. Gillikin.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Martha Shelia Gillikin Abadier of Inverness, Fla.; a son, Shawn Gillikin of Metter; a sister, Ailene Shoemake of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, C.A. Dodson of Columbus., Miss.; and one grandchild.

Mrs. Clyde Bunn Youmans, 83

SAVANNAH-- Funeral service for Mrs. Clyde Bunn Youmans, 83, was held Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home-Hodgson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Donnie Brannen officiating. Burial was held at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Norristown. She died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at her residence under the care of Hospice Savannah, Inc.
She was born Nov. 12, 1920 in Emanuel County and had lived in Savannah since 1943. She was the daughter of the late Perry Green Bunn Sr. and Annie Lee Murphy Bunn. She was a homemaker and an avid seamstress. She was a member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ephriam Elmo Youmans of Savannah; daughters, Algie Y. Simons and Shirley Youmans of Savannah; twin sister, Shirlene Y. Owens of Rincon; a brother, Perry G. Bunn Jr. of Savannah; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home-Hodgson Memorial Chapel had charge of arrangements.

James Byrd Flanders, 69

MIDVILLE--Funeral for James Byrd Flanders, 69, will be held Thursday, March 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne DeFore and Rev. Benjy Varnell officiating. Burial will be in Swainsboro City Cemetery. He died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Medical College of Georgia after a brief illness.
Mr. Flanders was born in Emanuel County on March 24, 1934. He was the son of the late Joe E. and Pauline Flanders Newton. He was a member of Swainsboro First United Methodist Church and chairman of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Flanders was he executive vice president and director of Spivey State Bank. He was a member of the J.J. Kennedy Hunting Club, Swainsboro Shrine Club and Swainsboro Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy W. Flanders of Midville; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan F. and Joe Daniel of Waynesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Chesley B. and Faye Flanders of Midville; a son, Joe Flanders of Midville; two sisters, Mrs. JoAnne Gay and Mrs. Carolyn Moore of Swainsboro; and four grandchildren, Rett and Ross Daniel of Waynesboro; and Chesley Jr. and Chance Flanders of Midville.
Pallbearers will be Chesley Flanders Jr., Chance Flanders, Rett Daniel, Ross Daniel, Alex Grindler and Carson Cross. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Swainsboro First United Methodist Church Board of Trustees and employees and directors of Spivey State Bank.
Memorial contributions may be made to Swainsboro First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Organ Fund.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home.
