MIDVILLE--Graveside service for E. C. Dave Hall, 61, was held Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Wadley City Cemetery. The Rev. Craig Tillman officiated.
He died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Emanuel Medical Center.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Hall was employed by Emanuel County Commissioners and worked with the road department.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Hall of Midville; two brothers, Cliff Hall and Larry Hall, both of Wadley; two sisters, Annie Ruth Derriso and Linda Logue, both of Wadley; several nieces and nephews.

Julia Scott Holder, 83
SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Julia Scott Holder, 83, was held Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Bill Thompson and the Rev. Emory Fennell officiating. Burial was at Swainsboro City Cemetery.
She died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 at Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.
A native of Emanuel County, Mrs. Holder was retired from Swainsboro Sportswear. She worked with Creston's and Kight's Auto Auction. She was also a homemaker and oldest living member of Dellwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Bernice Holder.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn H. Kight and June H. Roberson, both of Swainsboro; one son, Bobby George Holder of Swainsboro; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Frank Archer, Raymond Holder, Billy Holder, Terry Lamb, David Scott, Jimmy Bramlett, Wayne Scott and Charles Stroud.

Earl Morgan Varner, 97
SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Earl Morgan Varner, 97, was held Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Sonia Sullivan officiating. Burial was at Swainsboro City Cemetery.
He died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Emanuel Medical Center after a brief illness.
A native of Houston County, Mr. Varner lived in Emanuel County 66 years. He was son of the late Forrest G. and Annie Eliza Killebrew Varner and was a member of Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd. During his 37 year career with the Extension Service, Mr. Varner made notable contributions to the 4-H program and community. During World War II, he promoted community patriotism and encouraged others to plant Victory Gardens, purchase war bonds and donate aluminum and scrap iron to support men in uniform. In 1946, he helped organize the first Forestry Festival, known today as the Pine Tree Festival. In 1949, he helped organize Emanuel County 4-H Foundation and the building, originally dedicated in 1950, was rededicated and named the Varner 4-H Center in 1990. Mr. Varner served as president of the Emanuel County 4-H Foundation since 1973, was former president of Emanuel County Historic Preservation Society and chairman of Farm and Home Museum. He was a member of Georgia Master 4-H Club and received the Outstanding Member Award in 1989. He was also a member of Swainsboro Farm Bureau, Georgia Association of County Agricultural Agents and Georgia Association of Extension 4-H Agents. Mr. Varner was instrumental in establishing the Sue Stanford 4-H Kitchen and received the Golden Book of Deeds Award from Swainsboro Exchange Club in 2001. His aim in life was to live up to the 4-H Club's Motto, "To Make the Best Better".
Survivors include one niece and one nephew.
Pallbearers were Jerry Cadle, Butch Frye, Mack Griffin, Jack Atkinson Jr., Wilbur Stephens, Dr. John Derden, Bill Sherrod, Don Ray and Randall Ray.
Honorary pallbearers were Board of Directors of Emanuel County 4-H Foundation, Emanuel County 4-H Volunteer Leaders Council, Emanuel County Extension Service Staff and Board of Directors of Emanuel County Historic Preservation Society.

Dollie Silas, 84
SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Dollie Silas, 84, was held Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Greater St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. Bennie Brinson officiating. Burial was at Swainsboro City Cemetery.
She died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mrs. Silas was a native and life long resident of Emanuel County where she attended public schools and was a member of Rountree Grove Baptist Church for many years.
Survivors include five daughters, Georgia Grubbs of Cocoa, Fla., Mannie Ruth Hall of Columbia, S.C., Emma Mays, Estella Kirkland and Lucille Brooks, all of Swainsboro; two sons, Willie Silas Jr. of Swainsboro and Alvin Brooks of Stillmore; one sister, Lucille Rainey of Swainsboro; 37 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

William Floyd Griswold Sr., 75
METTER--Funeral for William Floyd Griswold Sr., 75, was held Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Home, Hooks Chapel with the Rev. Lamar Samples and the Rev. Ted Page officiating. Burial was at El Bethel Cemetery.
He died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Bulloch County, Mr. Griswold lived in the Atlanta area several years before moving to Metter in 1988. He was a self-employed appliance repairman and gardener who enjoyed sharing his produce with friends. He was a member of Antioch Sunday School Class and First Baptist Church of Metter. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Roy Griswold.
Survivors include his wife, Florene Patterson Griswold of Metter; two sons, William Floyd Griswold Jr. of Athens and Jackie P. Griswold of Lilburn; one daughter, Joyce G. Warren of Marietta; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Thomas Durrence, Thomas Patterson, Lanier Griswold, John Hyland, David Samples and Mark Warren.
Honorary pallbearers were Russell Mercer, Jack Taylor, Grayson Douglas, Tommy Durrence, Charles Lanier and Homer Lewis Lanier.

DeAlva Kicklighter Snyder, 81
TWIN CITY--Funeral for DeAlva Kicklighter Snyder, 81, was held Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Hodges-Turner-Anderson Funeral Home chapel with David Everton officiating. Burial was at Glennville City Cemetery.
She died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation for Statesboro.
Mrs. Snyder was raised in Glennville and lived in Brunswick many years before moving to Twin City 16 years ago. She was a member of First Christian Church of Glennville and graduate of Georgia Teacher's College, now Georgia Southern University. She taught many years in Brunswick for Glynn County Board of Education before retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb Snyder and parents, Parker and Ruby Kicklighter.
Survivors include one son, Gene Snyder of Statesboro; one sister, Louise Whetsell of Twin City; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Robert J. McNear
SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Robert J. McNear was held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Coleman Chapel AME Church with the Rev. James Days officiating and Elder D.G. Mosley assisting. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
He died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002 at Burke County Medical Center after an extended illness.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. McNear was a member of Coleman Chapel AME Church, Glen Cove Regular Democratic Club and Glen Cove Chapter of the NAACP of Glen Cove, N.Y. He was also member of King Charles Lodge #41 in which he achieved position of Master Mason. He retired after 37 years from Li Tungsten Corp. of Glen Cove, N.Y. and then moved back to Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Alma McNear of Swainsboro; three sons, Keith McNear of Baltimore, Md., Rev. Andrew Adams of Chicago, Ill. and Calvin Marshall of Westbury, N.Y.; three sisters, Juanita Burnette, Lois Mae Shedrick and Dora Wells, all of Swainsboro; one brother, Johnny McNear of Trenton, N.J.; five grandchildren and several other relatives.
Pallbearers were Jeremiah Foots, James Edwards, Keith McNear, Willie J. Marion, David Smith and Brian Cross.

Emily Sherita Lockett, 19
MACON-- Funeral for Emily Sherita Lockett, 19, was held Sunday Oct. 27, 2002 at 3 p.m. at Smith Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Benji Waters officiating. Burial was at Coursey Grove Church cemetery in Treutlen County.
She died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, after a brief illness.
Miss Lockett was born in Macon where she lived most of her life. She was a member of Evangelic Faith Christian Center.
Survivors include her father, Thomas Lee Lockett Jr. of Macon; her mother and stepfather, Anita and Claude Davis of Midfield, Ala.; seven sisters, Pamela Branch, Tracy Lockett, both of Atlanta, Denise Rollins of Twin City, Carolyn Carlton of Metter, Regina Lane and Angie Rountree, both of Swainsboro and Jessica Lockett of Macon; four brothers, Thomas Lockett and Jonathan Lockett, both of Birmingham, Ala., Carl Lockett of Macon and Randy Foreman of Swainsboro; grandparents, Lillie Lockett of Swainsboro and Johnny and Mary Jones of Macon and several other relatives.

Franklin Lee Beasley, 65
OAK PARK--Funeral for Franklin Lee Beasley, 65 was held Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Oak Park Church of God with the Rev. Brian Powell and the Rev. Steve Bryant officiating. Burial was at Oak Park Cemetery.
He died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Beasley was a native and life long resident of Emanuel County. He was retired from Oxford of Vidalia, served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Oak Park Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Estelle Beasley, one sister, Avis Cribbs and two sons, Phillip Beasley and Donald Beasley.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy D. Beasley of Oak Park; three sons, Lucky Beasley and Ronnie Beasley, both of Oak Park and Frederick Toole of Lyons; three daughters, Pam Williams of Reidsville, Carol Woodward of White Oak and Jan Durrence of Oak Park; two brothers, Andy Beasley of Vidalia and Irvin Beasley of Swainsboro; one sister, Melba Kersey of Bluffton, S.C. and twelve grandchildren.

Ella Mae Usher, 84
STATESBORO--Funeral for Ella Mae Usher, 84, was held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Johnson Grove Baptist Church of Bulloch County with the Rev. J.C. Newkirk officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
She died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at East Ga. Regional Hospital of Statesboro after an extended illness.
Mrs. Usher was the daughter of the late Simpson and Mattie Roberts. She was a member of Johnson Grove Baptist Church where she enjoyed working, singing and playing the piano.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Howard of Orlando, Fla.; four sisters, Mary Lester of Sylvania, Clyde Bowman and Dorothy Rountree, both of Red Bank, N.J., Albertha Jackson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two brothers, Cleveland Roberts of Lake Wales, Fla. and John Roberts of Miami, Fla.; one granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and relatives.
