DANVILLE--Funeral for Joel Webb, 55, was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, from Sardis Primitive Baptist Church near Kite. Elder Woodrow Beasley officiated. Burial was in Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
He died Saturday, Sept. 15, in Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon, following an extended illness.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Webb was employed in quality control by Biljo, Inc., in East Dublin. He was a Primitive Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Carrier Webb of Danville; a daughter, Joanne Cox of Swainsboro; two sons, Scott Justin Webb of Danville and Joel Steven Webb of Waycross; a sister, Nell Webb Morrison of Swainsboro; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jody Martin, Johnny Cox, Clyde Carrier, Richie Carrier, Ashley Meeks and Brandon McNure.

Apostle Romles Pierce, 33
TWIN CITY--Funeral for Apostle Romles Pierce, 33, was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, from Emanuel County Institute Auditorium. Burial was in Kirkland Cemetery, Midville.
He died Saturday, Sept. 8, in Emanuel Medical Center, Swainsboro.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Apostle Pierce was a minister and founder of Outreach Ministry. He was a member of Pierce Grove Baptist Church in Louisville and had pastored Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Sardis and Thankful Baptist Church in Stillmore. He attended school in Twin City and was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Pierce of Twin City; two daughters, LaToya Johnson and Raven Pierce, both of Twin City; a son, Joshua Pierce of Twin City; his mother, Mary Pierce of Twin City; his father, the Rev. Willie Pierce of Twin City; five sisters, Jerry Pierce Young of Twin City, Rosetta Brown of Rex, Shirley Dawson of Newark, N.J., Williease Pierce of Brooklyn and Mary Ann Goldwire of Savannah; and seven brothers, Lee Pierce of Kuwait, Howard Pierce of Korea, Willie Pierce Jr. of Alabama, Bishop Allen Pierce of Portal, the Rev. Teddy Pierce, Larry Pierce and Benjamin Pierce, all of Twin City.
Pallbearers were Elmore McQuarter, Bruce Sutton, Michael Stokes, Churck Johnson, Perry Fann and Alvin Swans, Honorary pallbearers were Steven Morgan, Larty Lott, Sammy Coppock, Tom Piercd, Leroy Thomas, Eddie Freeman, Jerry Milton and Otis Fann.

N.H. Lynch
SWAINSBORO--Funeral for N.H. Lynch was held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, from the Trinity Baptist Church. Burial was in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
He died Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Emanuel Medical Center.
Born and educated in Candler County, Mr. Lynch was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Swainsboro.
Survivors include three daughters, Ann Meekins and Sylvia Holmes, both of Swainsboro and Martha Peebles of Brunswick; four sons, Melvin Jackson, Lamar Franklin and Jocephus, all of Swainsboro and Henry Franklin of Atlanta; his mother, Lean Smith of Swainsboro; two sisters, Marie Bell and Barbara Green, both of Swainsboro; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

William Ottis Grice, 90
Metter--Funeral for William Ottis Grice, 90, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, from Excelsior Baptist Church. The Rev. Miles Phillips, the Rev. Jimmy Dupree and the Rev. Terry Doyle will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery.
He died Monday, Sept. 17, in Candler County Hospital.
A native of Evans County, Mr. Grice moved to Candler County in 1952. He was a retired farmer and an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, served on the board of directors for Farm Bureau and had been a deacon of Excelsior Baptist Church since 1957. He was a Sunday school teacher of the Adult Class for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Dowd Grice of Metter; two sons, Larry Grice of Portal and Paul Dowd of Statesboro; five daughters, Willene Brown, Pat Dekle and Clara Monroe, all of Metter, Ernestine Parsons of Clermont, Fla., and Terri Bell of Twin City; a brother, Herschel Grice of Claxton; a sister, Lillie Blocker of Brunswick; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Wilson Grice and a grandson, Steve Monroe.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Brown, Chris Brown, Chad Dekle, Eric Kirkland, Patrick Monroe and Brandon Bell.

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Joe Brown Moore, 91, was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, from Swainsboro Church of God. The Rev. Terry Chaney and the Rev. Kelmer Durden officiated. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery. He died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 13, in Swainsboro Nursing Home.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Moore was a paint contractor and a member of Swainsboro Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Moore of Swainsboro; four daughters, Judy Webb of Macon, Trudy Boyette of Millen, Patricia Kirkland of Trenton, S.C., and Connie Rice of Athens; two sons, Henry Moore of Vidalia and Buford Moore of Macon; a brother, J.D. Moore of Swainsboro; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.

Needham George Smith Sr., 68
OAK PARK--Memorial service for Needham George Smith Sr., 68, will held at a later date in Many, La.
He died Friday morning, Sept. 14, 2001, in Emanuel Medical Center, Swainsboro.
Born in Mt. Vernon, Mr. Smith had lived in Emanuel County since 1983. He was a retired commercial truck driver and an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Lynne Smith of Oak Park; a daughter, Kathy Powell of Oak Park; five sons, Arthur Blackwell of Allendale, S.C., Needham G. Smith Jr. and Victor L. Smith of Swainsboro, Rand Randy Smith and Glenn Smith, both of Oak Park; a brother, Robert Smith of Loganville; two sisters, Lavonia Black of Summerville, S.C., and Margaret Jones of Lake Wales, Fla.; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

SWAINSBORO-Graveside service for Williard Bevels was held Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 at 2 p.m. from Swainsboro City Cemetery. The Rev. Ira Whitaker officiated.
He died Wednesday, Nov. 21 at Swainsboro Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Mr. Bevels was born in Rockmart.
Survivors include his guardians, Franklin and Yvonne Archer of Swainsboro.

Willie Albert Wilson, 41
VIDALIA- Funeral for Willie Albert Wilson, 41, was held Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001 at 1 p.m. from St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church of Ailey. The Rev. Fred Ricks officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
He was the son of Louise Wilson and Willie Cummings.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon R. Wilson; son, Nicholas Phillips of Vidalia; step-son, Jamichael Kirkland of Swainsboro; sisters, Alberta Wilson of Swainsboro, Annete Wiggs of Vidalia; Sandy Ferguson of Atlanta, Brenda Snell of Vidalia, Nichole and Denise Cummings of Waynesboro; brothers, Jerry Wilson of Vidalia, Keith Wilson of Vidalia, Kelsey Stevenson of Atlanta, Tyrone Chad and Irving Cummings of Mount Vernon, Tony Cummings of Waynesboro; and many other family members.

George Matuch Jr., 81
TOCCOA-George Matuch Jr., 81, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at Stephens County Hospital.
Born in Czechoslovakia, he came to the United States in 1928 and lived in Toccoa for the past 22 years. He was a member of the elite Flying Cadets of the Army Air Corps and became a flight instructor before being sent to North Africa as a P40 fighter pilot. He was shot down by ground fire in 1943 and was a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft III. He was awarded the Air Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heartand the POW Medal. After the war he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and became employed with Syder Brothers, Toccoa, for 22 years.
He was the son of the late George Sr. and Anna Mihajlo Matuch. He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Matuch.
Survivor is his wife, Althea Durden Matuch of Adrian.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville.

Max E. Farthing, 75
TWIN CITY-Funeral for Mr. Max E. Farthing, 75, was held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home. Frank Weigl officiated. Burial followed in the Joyner Cemetery.
He died Wednesday, Nov. 21 at Emanuel Medical Center.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Farthing was retired as a steel fabricator and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Farthing of Twin City; four sons, Michael A. Farthing of Kite, Dana Farthing of Swainsboro, Stanley Farthing of Twin City, and Craig Farthing of Wrightsville; one brother, Darwin E. Farthing of Savannah; one sister Wylone Greenway of Ft. Pierce, Fl.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Kip Farthing, Mac Farrell, Emmett Joyner Jr., John Lane, Terry Lane and Trent Boulineau.
