Christine Coker Patterson
Christine Coker Patterson, 87, of Marietta, formerly of Toccoa, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004 in Marietta.
A native of Toccoa, she was a daughter of the late Church and Annie Whitfield coker. She was retired from JC Penney Company, where she worked in the electrical department. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Coker Meeks, and two brothers, Troy Coker and Jim Coker.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Hay-Gantt Funeral Home Chapel in Marietta. The Rev. Germaine Copeland officiated. Graveside services were held Monday, Feb. 9, in Floral Memory Gardens in Albany.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia P. Hall of Marietta; two sons, Mike Patterson of Albany and William “Billy” Patterson Il of Buford; four sisters, Eufaula “Pete” Bohannon of Toccoa, Katie Rice of Stockbridge, Cooper Rumsey of Gainesville, and Lillian Moore of Bristol, Tenn.; a brother, Roy Coker of Toccoa, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Thelma L. Loden
Thelma Lafayette Loden, 89, of Park Street, Toccoa, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Stephens County Hospital.
A daughter of the late William Allen and Lucy Maxwell Loden, she was born Sept. 12, 1914 in Stephens County where she lived her entire life. She was retired from Coats and Clark after many years of service and was a member of Carnes Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Clyde Loden, and by a sister, Jessie Lorraine Loden.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 8, at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Tim Miller officiated. Interment followed in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include two sisters, Agnes Loden and Mildred Patterson, both of Toccoa; two nieces; one great-niece; and three great nephews.
Pallbearers were Max Tapp, John Britt Boozer, John E. Boozer, Jon Tapp and Steve Tilley.

Roscoe Homer Cobb
Roscoe Homer Cobb, 78, of South Big A Road, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at his home.
Born Jan. 10, 1926 in Franklin County, he was a son of the late A.B. and Fannie Lou Brock Cobb and was the widower of Marie Collins Miller Cobb. He lived all of his life in Stephens County where he worked with E-Z Bore for a number of years and retired from Toccoa Foundry. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Champ and Albert Cobb, and a sister, Ruth Day.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 8, in the chapel of Whitlock Mortuary. The Revs. Roger Elrod and Tim Griffin officiated. Interment followed in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Gloria Cobb of Toccoa and Roddy and Vivian Cobb of Eastanollee; two step-daughters, Monteen Miller Henson and her husband, Charles, of Jenkinsberg, and Joyce Miller Holcomb and her husband, Dewey, of Clarkesville; a step-son, James Miller, and his wife, Diane, of Toccoa; five sisters, Mary Zell Outz, Bonnie Sue Payne, Helen Trotter and Arvelene Griffin and her husband, Carter, all of Toccoa, and JoAnn Ward and her husband, Bobby of Eastanollee; a sister-in-law, Gail Cobb of Toccoa; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Cobb, Chad Cobb, Allan Holcomb, David Cobb, Robbie Day and Kenneth Collins.

Charlie Maude Smith
Charlie Maude Smith, 82, of Toccoa, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Hart Care Center, Hartwell.
Born in Barnesville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Ann Gibson Leakes. She was an active member of the Fire Baptized Holiness Church Movement.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 3, at New Hope F.B.H. Church. The Revs. David T. Scott, Emma Fortson and Elder J.H. Lewis officiated. Interment followed in Toccoa City Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Smith Washington of Toccoa; three sons, Milton Lacy Smith of Greenville, S.C., John Allen Smith of Long Beach, N.Y. and Tommy Lee Smith of Toccoa; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Edwards Patterson
The Rev. William Edward Patterson, 69, of McFarlin Bridge Road, Carnesville, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens.
A son of the late William Glenn and Lillie Ariail Patterson, he was born Aug. 17. 1934 in Franklin County where he had lived the greater part of his life. He was a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean War and a graduate of the University of Georgia having received his master’s degree. He was employed with the Stephens County Board of Education where he was coordinator of the Federal School Program and later the coordinator of the computer program in the Stephens County School System. He was an ordained Baptist minister and a member and associate pastor and deacon of Nail’s Creek Baptist Church as well as a former Sunday School teacher at the church. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4346 where he had served as the post chaplain and was also District of Georgia chaplain and state chaplain of the Georgia V.F.W. He was a member of the Franklin County Lions Club, member and past president of the Georgia State Teacher’s Association, member and past president of the Franklin County Historical Society and was active in Franklin County geneaology. He was preceded in death by a son, Louis Edward Patterson, who died in 1977.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 7, at Nail’s Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Duane Eller and John Gwizdak officiated. Interment followed in the Nail’s Creek Baptist Church cemetery with military honors performed by the V.F.W. Post 4346.
Survivors include his wife, Janet MacPherson Patterson of the home; two daughters, Andrea Dean of Lavonia and Anita King of Carnesville; one son, Thomas Glenn Patterson of Carnesville; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Wayne Patterson of Toccoa and Trenton Patterson of Mt. Airy; two sisters, Faye Robinson of Bowden and Glenda Avery of Duluth.
Active deacons of Nail’s Creek Baptist Church served as pallbearers, including Freddie Dalton, Jimmy Dodd, Max Lewallen, Brian Nash, Chuck Vickery and Carey Wiley.
Inactive deacons of the church served as honorary escort.

Phil T. Dodd
Phil Thomas Dodd, 57, of Jim Dodd Road, Mt. Airy, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at his home.
A son of the late Jim and Violet Thomas Dodd, he was born Nov. 7, 1946 in Stephens County where he lived most of his life. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran; he was self-employed in sheet metal work and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Watkins Dodd of the home; a son, Trevor T. Dodd of Mt. Airy; two sisters, Edna Benfield of Westminster, S.C. and Mary McNulty of Clarkesville; a brother, Louis Dodd of Mt. Airy; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Flora B. Rogers
Flora B. Rogers, 97, of Clayton, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Stephens County Hospital.
Born in Towns County, she was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Arvin L. Rogers and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Edna Garrett Bradshaw. She was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 3, at the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The Rev. J.C. Quilliams and Layman Lloyd Hunter officiated. Interment followed in the Persimmon Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, E.J. Rogers of Toccoa; three daughters and two-sons-in-law, Bessie Cragg of Westminster, S.C., Ruby and Victor Taylor of Westminster, S.C., and Grace and Eugene Crane of Clayton; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

John Ed Allen
John Ed Allen, 65, of Mt. Airy, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Habersham County Medical Center.
Born in White County Jan. 13, 1939, he was the son of the late William Alonzo and Addie Agnes Simmons Allen. He was self-employed in southern gospel music and sang with the Melodyaires Quartet. He was a member of Community Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Sherman Allen, and a sister, Irene Lovell.
Funeral services will be held today, April 9, from the chapel of McGahee-Griffin Stewart Funeral Home. The Revs. Clifford Allen, George Sexton, Telford Tanksley and Steve Lewallen will officiate. Interment will follow in Community Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Ansley Allen of Mt. Airy; daughters, Joan Wooley of Mt. Airy and Teresa Armour of Alto; sons, Ricky Allen of Mt. Airy and Shawn Allen of Toccoa; brothers, Paul Allen of Sautee and the Rev. Clifford Allen of Gainesville; sisters, Minnie Lou Sexton of Marietta, Jenny Merritt of Sautee, Susie Holman of Gainesville and Fran Garrison of Baldwin; mother-in-law, Pauline Swafford Ansley of Mt. Airy 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Clayton Mays Wood
Clayton Mays Wood, 74, of Tallapoosa, died May 8, 2004.
He was the son of the late Thomas and Beulah Brady Wood and was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Wood and by three brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 10, at the Miller Funeral Home chapel in Tallapoosa. The Revs. Buddy Gentry and Jimmy Cook officiated. Interment was in Shoal Creek Baptist Church cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Ayers officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Maples Wood of the home; son, Tommy Wood of Greenville, S.C.; stepsons, Ronald Gilbert of Carrollton; Jerry Gilbert of Tallapoosa; sister, Blanch Estavanko of Bremen; brother, Dock, and his wife, Thema Wood, of Fairplay, S.C.; one grandchild; seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Jack W. Greemon Sr.
Jack W. Greemon Sr., 66, of Gumlog Drive, Gumlog Community, Lavonia, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Cobb Memborial Hospital in Royston.
Born May 29, 1937, he was a son of the late Willie T. and Minnie Chitwood Greemon. His wife was the late Geraldine Hobbs Greemon, who died just seven days prior to his death. He was retired from Morgan Concrete Company, formerly Turner Concrete Company. He was a Christian. He had recently received Christ as Savior and was baptized in his own home by his minister, Pastor Johnny Stowe.
Graveside services were held Tuesay, May 11, in Franklin Memorial Gardens, North in Lavonia. The Rev. Johnny Stowe officiated.
Survivors include his daughter, Vanessa G. Ballenger of Lavonia; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack Greemon Jr. and Vickie Greemon of Lawrenceville; Jeff Greemon and Tina Greemon of Lavonia; sisters, Irene Carpenter and Chris Palmer, both of Habersham County; Patricia Leard of Banks County and Linda Greemon of Stephens County; two grandchildren, Trisha and Allea Greemon.
