Bill David Taylor

Bill David Taylor, 84, of Sunshine Church Road, Toccoa, died Tuesday, April, 1, 2003 at the Rabun County Hospital.

A son of the late John David and Irene Hemphill Taylor, he was born May 2, 1918 in Franklin County, having lived most of his life in Franklin and Stephens counties. He was retired from Coats and Clark after 35 years of service where he worked as a machine fixer and was a lifelong member of the Sunshine United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School Teacher and was a former Trustee of the cemetery Committee. He was a Mason and was preceded in death by four sisters, Johnnie Sue Smith, Mary Smith, Doris Wyens and Ezma Taylor and by two brothers, Charlie Marvin Taylor and Jack Taylor.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 3, at the Sunshine United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ryan Seawright and Walton McNeal officiated. Interment was at the Sunshine United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dessie Smith Taylor of the home; son and daughter-in-law, James and GeDelle Taylor of Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Charlotte Taylor of Toccoa; son Charles Taylor of Toccoa; five grandsons; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Polly Seawright of Toccoa, Sara Neil Moseley of Toccoa, Joella Coker of Smyrna and Barbara Hallford of Toccoa and a number of nieces and nephews.

Grandsons and nephews served as pallbears. Grandsons were Joshua Taylor, Jeremy Taylor, Timothy Taylor, Bruce Taylor and John Taylor. Nephews were Jeffrey Taylor, Kenny Taylor and Alan Smith.

Great-grandsons, Casey Addison and Jonathon Taylor serves as the honorary escort.

Acree-Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William H. 'Bill' Hunt

William H. 'Bill' Hunt, 79, of Amberwood Trail, Rome, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at his home.

A native of Walhalla, S.C., he was born Jan. 13, 1924, the son of the late William J. and Bessie Lee Barton Hunt. He had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County since 1973 having moved to Rome from Toccoa. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army and was a member and deacon of the Armuchee Baptist Church in Texas Valley. For several years he served as the executive director of Rome Housing Authority and at the time of his death, he was the owner and operator of Hunt & Associates Real Estate Appraisal Company. He was married on Sept. 5, 1942 to the former Lydia Virginia Verner who preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2003.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 3, at the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley?s Funeral Home, Rome. The Rev. Glen Clonts officated. Following services in Rome, he was brought to Acree-Davis Funeral Home in Toccoa. Additional funeral services were held today, April 4, from Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Garrison will officiate. Interment will follow in the Toccoa City Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherri Hunt of Rome and Terri Billings of Rome; one son, Michael Hunt of Enola, Pa.; three grandchildren, Brandon Ledford, Michele Billings and Morgan Billings; two sisters, Margaret Daniels of South Carolina and Carrie Hunt of South Carolina; two brothers, Robert Hunt and Alton Hunt, both of South Carolina and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jack Stovall, Charles Dooley, Danny Prewett, Greg Holbrook, Clarence Andrews and Ed Elrod.

Acree-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

William Marr

William (Bill) Marr, 77, of Hilltop Lane, Toccoa, died Monday, May 26, 2003 at his home.

Born May 30, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late Stephen and Rose Kuntz Marr. He had lived most of his life in Florida before moving to Toccoa 17 years ago. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and owned and operated Bill Marr Wallpapering and Painting. He was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 29, from the chapel of Whitlock Mortuary. The Rev. Dennis Ledford officiated. Interment was at Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Landis Marr of the home; a son, Bruce Marr of Toccoa; two daughters, Beth Wensing of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Sue Coleman of Toccoa; a step-son, George Bensel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two step-daughters, Trish Farmer of Toccoa and Helen Stein of Blue Ridge; a granddaughter reared in the home, Heather Harrington of Toccoa; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Bruce Marr, George Bensel, Frank Rios, Matthew Coleman, Jeremy Coleman and Coby Banner.

Whitlock Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

William L. Anthony

The Rev. William L. “Bill” Anthony, 72, of Gumlog Grove Road, Gumlog Community, Lavonia, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003.

A Jackson County native, he was born March 23, 1931 to the late George Anthony and the late Lois McIntire Anthony Martin. He was a Baptist minister for 45 years; he was founder and pastor of numerous churches during his ministry. He was a member and interim pastor of El Bethel Baptist Church, West Currahee Street, Toccoa. He was also the former owner and operator of Anthony Backhoe Service and operated the Tug Boat Flea Market. He was a member of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association and a supporter of the organization’s boy’s home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jenett.

Funeral services will be held today, May 30, from the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home in Lavonia. The Revs. Terry Yearwood, Roger Elrod and John Ashworth will officiate. Interment will follow in the Middle River Baptist Church Cemetery, Carnesville.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Weaver Anthony of the home; daughters, Susan Anthony and Sharon Crane; sons, Michael, Ron, Junior and Jimmy Anthony; brother, George Larry Anthony; sisters, Judy Payne, Betty Collins and Barbara Krauss, and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tony Payne, Bobby Payne, Brian Shaw, Craig Simmons, Tim Crane, Ray Farmer, Jerry Haddock and Lester Vick.

Hamby Funeral Home, Lavonia is in charge of arrangements.

Julia Jester

Julia M. Jester, 78, of Columbus, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at her home.

A native of Elmo, Ill., she was a daughter of the late John Miller and Mary Calvert Miller and widow of Vernon M. Jester. She was a homemaker and Baptist by faith.

Graveside services were held Thursday, May 29, at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning. Dr. Wade Bridges officiated.

Survivors include two daughters, Kay Shueman of Moriarty, N. M. and Donna Sims of Tucker; two sons, Walter Jester of Toccoa and Larry Jester of Columbus; a step-son, Wayne Jester of Columbus; a sister, Marylea Ward of Mt. Verson, Ill.; two brothers, Edwin Miller and Alvin Miller; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Juanita Franklin Burton

Juanita Franklin Burton, 67, of West Currahee Street, Toccoa, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003 at Stephens County Hospital.

A daughter of the late Will and Anna Certain Franklin, she was born Sept. 14, 1936 in Stephens County where she lived all of her life. She was retired from Toccoa Casket Company and was of the Holiness faith. She was preceded in death by a brother, J.A. Franklin, and a sister, Betty Porter.

Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 30, from the chapel of Whitlock Mortuary. The Revs. Harlon Noles and Charles Lee will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselane Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Tommy Joe Burton of the home; five sons, Billy Burton, Roger Burton, Roy Burton and Ben Burton, all of Toccoa and Richard Burton of Eastanollee; two daughters, JoAnn McIntyre and Kathy Williams, both of Toccoa; a sister, Dorothy Norris of Eastanollee; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were William Pitts, Jesse Pitts, Zack Watson, Wesley Hughes, David Burton, Clint Burton, Levi Burton and Danny McIntyre.

Whitlock Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Willis Ray Fuller

Willis Ray Fuller, 55, of Fowlertown Road, Toccoa, died Monday, Sept. 22, at Stephens County Hospital.

A son of the late Willis and Sara Jane Haddock Fuller, he was born Dec. 10, 1947 in Stephens County where he lived all of his life. He was self-employed in used car sales and was of the Holiness faith.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home. The Revs. Ann Reynolds and Steve Powers officiated. Interment was at Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Imagene Cabe Fuller of the home; a daughter, Sylvia Ann Fuller of Toccoa; a son, David Stancil of Demorest; adopted daughter, Melissa Barrett of Ila; three sisters, Evelyn Pless and Wanda Baker both of Toccoa and Beverly Cannady of Greenville, S.C.; three brothers, Charles Fuller, Don Fuller and Ronnie Fuller, all of Toccoa; seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Tommy Earls, Virgil Earls, Ronnie Taylor, Brian Fuller, Brandon Griffin and Josh Shelton.

Acree-Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Maybell Finley

Frances Maybell Finley, 97, of Chopped Oak Road, Toccoa, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at Habersham County Medical Center.

Born Nov. 5, 1905 in Stephens County, she was a daughter of the late Elbert V. and Fannie Magnolia Holbrooks Finley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Seaborn M. Finley, and sons, Morris and Charles Finley. She lived in Stephens County all of her life and was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 27, from the chapel of Whitlock Mortuary. The Rev. Bill Evans officiated. Interment was in Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include sons, Loyd Finley of Elberton, Felix Findley and Clemeth Finley, both of Toccoa, and Dr. Harold Finley of Westminster, S.C.; daughters, Frances Hart of Cornelia, Evelyn Bost of Fayetteville and Aundria Evans of Toccoa; brothers, Alfred Finley of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Joe V. Finley of Toccoa; 26 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Phillip Hart, Tim Findley, Junior Findley, Robert Buckner, Doug Buckner, Russ Evans and Charles Evans.

Whitlock Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Otha Mabry Jr.

Otha Mabry Jr., 74, of Glendale Drive, Hartwell, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at Hart County Hospital.

Born on Dec. 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Otha Mabry Sr. and Elise Adams Mabry. He operated Consolidated Credit, he was a self-employed truck driver and owner-operator of Town and Country Cars. He was a member of Toccoa Presbyterian Church. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served aboard the USS McComb and the USS New as Fireman First Class.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 28, at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell. The Revs. Thomas Maxwell and Richard Bowers officiated. Interment was in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Gussie Dyer Mabry; sons, Danny Mabry of Canon and Michael Mabry of Hartwell; daughter, Jan Young of Westminster, S.C.; brothers, Curtis Mabry of Hollywood and Walter Mabry of Hollywood, and sisters, Sara Pannell of Toccoa, Kathryn Durden of Toccoa, Joyce Bleckley of Toccoa, Pat Tabor of Hendersonville, N.C. and Ann Dover of Westminster, S.C. and six grandchildren.

Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell was in charge of arrrangements.

Billy Ray Swift Sr.

Billy Ray Swift Sr., 43, of Crawford Road, Martin, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, S.C.

Born Feb. 9, 1960 in Stephens County, he was a son of the late Thomas Clifton and Betsy Inez Simmons Swift. He owned and operated Swift Remodeling Company and was of the Baptist faith. He was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast who loved his family and lived life to the fullest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margo Swift, and two brothers, Thomas Clifton Swift Jr. and Larry Swift.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 27, at the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home in Lavonia. The Rev. Terrell Simmons officiated. Interment followed in the Swift Family cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda S. Swift of the home; daughters, Melissa Smith and Amy Swift of Martin; sons, Levi Swift and Billy Ray Swift Jr. of Martin; sisters, Lois Bridges of Toccoa, Irene Simmons of Martin, Pamela Selph of Toccoa, Carolyn Kutulas of Atlanta and Connie Brown of Clayton; brother, Jerry Lee Swift of Milan, and five grandchildren.

Hamby Funeral Home, Lavonia, was in charge of arrangements.
