Jim Cowart

Mr. Jim Cowart, age 83, of Stockbridge, Georgia died Friday, April 25, 2008. He was born in Edison to the late Amaziah Pilcher and Alice Eudora Webb Cowart. Mr. Cowart was a Navy pilot during WWII and retired after 32 years with Delta Airlines as a flight instructor. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Tabernacle, a member of Stockbridge Masonic Lodge #691, and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Jarman Cowart and siblings J.P., Mary, Susie Mae, and Charles Cowart.

Mr. Cowart is survived by his wife, Clarine Lee Cowart of Stockbridge; sons, Eric P. Cowart of Conyers, James S. Cowart of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jack R. Cowart of Stockbridge; daughter, Brenda G. Solomon of Corpus Cristi, Texas ; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 28 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Glenn Anderson officiating. Interment The Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia 30253 or to Liberty Baptist Tabernacle, 1410 Valley Hill Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281 or The American Cancer Society, Southeast Division, 135 Bradford Square, Suite B. Fayetteville, Georgia 30215. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Coty Ray Clontz

Mr. Coty Ray Clontz, age 19, of Locust Grove, Georgia died April 14, 2008. Coty was born in Griffin, Georgia and celebrated life everyday. He was an avid skateboarder and enjoyed good music and spending time with his friends. His family and friends will always remember Coty as an Ambassador of Good Will. He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Douglas Clontz on April 1.

Survivors include his mother, Denise (Mike) Woodcock of Locust Grove; brothers, Jeff (Kristi) Dobbs of Newnan, Jason Dobbs of Douglasville; sister, Lindsi Clontz of Dallas; maternal grandmother, Laura Tovar of Jackson; maternal grandfather, David McDonald of Las Vegas, Nevada; paternal grandfather, Bobby Clontz of Candler, North Carolina; paternal step-grandfather, Hoyt Mull of Williamson; special niece, Evone Dobbs; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were held April 17 at the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Chaplain Don Daly officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia 30253 in memory of Doug and Coty Clontz. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Mae Cook

Mrs. Minnie Mae Cook, age 94 of McDonough, Georgia died April 17, 2008. She was born in Lovejoy to the late Pero and Eva Etta Lambert Betsill. She was a member of the Forest Park Second Baptist Church and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, William Durell Cook; brothers, Gentry and J.P. Betsill; and a grandson, Bill Houston.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary C. Cummings of McDonough; grandsons, Scott (Marquitta) Houston of Locust Grove, Russell (Lyndi) Houston of Americus; great grandchildren, Zachary, Brett, Gentry, and Jamie Houston, and Cameron Clair.

Services were held April 19 at Westview Cemetery with Dr. Buddy Perstrope officiating. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bobby E. Early

Bobby E. Early, age 78, of Jonesboro, Georgia died Wednesday, March 26, 2008. He was born in Fairview, North Carolina to the late Dwight Gladstone and Rosa Norman Early. Mr. Early attended Jonesboro United Methodist Church. He served 21 years in the Air Force, was very patriotic and very proud of serving in the Military. He retired from Northwest Airlines and became involved with different senior groups and was always on the go. He loved to square dance, enjoyed golfing, traveling, and doing things with his friends. But most of all he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Patsy Ruth Early; brothers, Billy T. Early, Jack P. Early, Dwight G. Early, Sr. and a special friend, Juanita Comer with whom he spent 16 years.

Survivors are his daughter, Deborah J. Early of Hendersonville, North Carolina; sisters, Lillie Early Fite of Fairview, North Carolina, Nancy E. Worley and Judy M. Camby, both of Swannanoa, North Carolina; brothers, Donald Early of Asheville, North Carolina, Jerry Early of Raleigh, North Carolina, Richard Early of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. Also surviving is a special friend, Dot Von Kamp with whom he spent the past five years.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Jonesboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Lee Bartlett

Hazel Lee Bartlett, a devoted wife of 64 years, loving mother of three daughters and two sons, endeared grandmother and great-grandmother and faithful friend to many, died at the age of 79 on April 1, 2008. She was always known as Granny, loving and caring for any who came to her door. She was born in Madison, Georgia to the late Lankford and Ina Lee Thurman Williams. She was the wife of a World War II Veteran, carpenter and steel worker, and the love of her life, Junior. She enjoyed music, cooking, the beach, outdoors and spending as much time as she could with her family.

Survivors include her husband, John H. Bartlett, Jr. of McDonough; children, Linda Ellis of McDonough, John (Donna) Bartlett, Richard (Debra) Bartlett, and Wanda (Terry) McDonald, Sarah (Paul) Ward, all of Stock-bridge; brother, Dwight (Ruth) Williams of Jonesboro; sisters, Sarah Tinley of Birmingham, Alabama, Annette McConnell, Nelia Riley, both of Lula; ten grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.

Services were held April 4 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleve-land Funeral Directors with Rev. Mike Henderson officiating. Interment Fairview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to Alzheimer’s Association at https://southernmemorywalk.kintera.org and click on Hazel’s Honey’s to donate. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Lorene Seal

Lorene Seal, age 77, of McDonough, Georgia died Friday, April 4, 2008. She was born in Morristown, Tennessee to the late James and Virgie Gill Knight. She and her husband owned and operated The Little Market on the Eastside in Morristown, Tennessee. Mrs. Seal was preceded in death by her husband, Acy Carroll Seal.

Mrs. Seal is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve Allen and Beverly Seal of McDonough; and grandchildren, Benjamin Seal and Rebecca Seal.

Services were held April 9 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Pastor Dale Davis officiating. Interment Hamblen Memory Gardens in Morristown, Tennessee. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

James G. Phillips

Mr. James G. “Bud” Phillips, age 90, of Riverdale, Georgia died April 5, 2008. Mr. Phillips was born in Henry County the son of the late Jesse H. and Cora O. Phillips of the Kelleytown community. He served his country in the US Army from 1943-1946. He was a member of Anvil Block United Methodist Church. Bud was a loyal member and brother to the American Legion Post 55, Riverdale Masonic Lodge 709, and Past President Arab Guard of Yaarab Temple. He was preceded in death by a son, James H. Phillips.

Survivors are his loving wife of 65 years, Mary A. Phillips; son, Daniel A. Phillips; grandchildren, Tiffany Phillips and Derek Phillips and four great grand children; sisters, Martha P. Chick and Betty P. Latimer, all of Henry County; siblings, Alton Phillips, Karen Swinney, Mary-Nell Lietch, Lovic Phillips, Ann Austin, Chick Phillips, Charles J. “Boody” Phillips and Jack Phillips.

Services were held April 8 at the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Bill Lloyd officiating. Interment Kelleytown Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Masonic rites. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
