James Caldwell
James Virgil Caldwell, 80, of Pond Street in Toccoa, died Monday, March 5, 2001.
Born in Elbert County, he was a son of the late William Duncan and Ruby Johnson Caldwell. He had lived the greater part of his life in Toccoa, and was a graduate of the John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer, and had been affiliated with Acree-Davis Funeral Home in Toccoa for some 50 years. He was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and a member of the Johns Sunday School Class. He was a former member of the Toccoa Lions Club and Toccoa Masonic Lodge Number #309. He was also a Shriner and a member of Toccoa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4346. He was a U.S. Navy veterans of World War II, and also served in the Korean Conflict. He was twice married, first to Ruth Oliver Caudwell, who preceded him in death in 1968. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Belmont.
Funeral services were held Thursday from Zebulon Baptist Church with the Rev. Ty Childers and Edward Whitworth officiating. Interment followed in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Wiley Caldwell; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Don Powell of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, Bill Caldwell of Martinez; and grandchildren, Judi and John Looney, Jan Carey, Jennifer and Derek Plowden, Kristi Powell and Jeffrey and Gina Carey.
Pallbearers were Doug Andrews, Mark Cox, Larry Ansley, Scott Andrews, Tommy Floyd and Jerry Moore.
Members of the Board of Deacons and the Johns Sunday School Class from Zebulon Baptist Church served as honorary escorts.
Memorials may be made to the Zebulon Baptist Church building fund.

Jessie Bell Grubbs
Jessie Bell Mouchet Grubbs, 93, of Gainesville, died Sunday, March 4, 2001.
Born April 30, 1907 in Hart County, she was a daughter of the late T.S. and Delia Adams Mouchet. She had lived in Hall County for the past 30 years. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Grubbs. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ophelia Raden, four brothers, Jewel, William, Addis and Joseph Mouchet, and two sisters, Pauline and Lille Mouchet.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Wade officiating. Interment followed in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Wyldene and Tom Raden of Gainesville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Nobuko Grubbs of Gainesville and Calvin and Fay Grubbs of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Corine W. Gibson
Corine Waldrup Gibson, 87, of Clarkesville, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001.
Born Feb. 8, 1914 in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late Cleveland Byrd and Deley Harper Waldrup. She was a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Jasper Gibson, and by two sons, Dillard Gibson and Charles Gibson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 17 from Whitfield Funeral Home's North Chapel. Interment followed in the Welcome Home Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Hazel Parker of Clarkesville and Dot Cantrell of Cornelia; two sons, Carl Gibson of Dahlonega and Chester Gibson of Toccoa; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Hythan Higginbotham
Hythan Margaret Bray Higginbotham, 82, of Mitchell Street in Toccoa died Tuesday, March 6, 2001.
Born Feb. 13, 1919 in Hart County, she was a daughter of the late John Belton and Pansy Whitworth Bray. She had lived in Cordele and Augusta before moving back to Toccoa. She was a homemaker, and a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Joy Sunday School Class, the WMU, the Garden Club and the Women’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrus Talmadge Higginbotham, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sue Bray Alewine and by brothers Jack and Jerry Bray.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. from the Whitlock Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Henry Fields and the Rev. Joel Bradberry officiating. Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Jane Higginbotham of Eastanollee; three grandsons, Douglas Higginbotham of Odenton, Md., Tyrus Higginbotham of Lawrenceville and Robert Higginbotham of Eastanollee; and a brother, Owen Bray of Cordele.

Hannah Candace Nicole Brothers, infant daughter of William Fredrick and Amanda Diane Smith Brothers, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Toccoa Church of God with the Rev. Harlon Noles and Teddy King officiating. Interment will follow in Roselane Cemetery.
Survivors in addition to her parents include a brother, Joshua Thomas Brothers of the home; a sister, Ashleigh Olivia Brothers of the home; maternal grandparents Tommy and Pamela Smith of Toccoa; paternal grandparents Fred T. James T. Segars
James Thomas Segars, 68, of Poplar Street in Toccoa, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Born Jan. 6, 1933 in Franklin County, he was a son of the late Dennis F. and Edwina Fricks Segars. He had lived most of his life in Toccoa and Stephens County, and retired from the Tugalo Gas Co. after a long number of years. He was a member of Hill Street Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons. He had also served as a trustee, the Sunday School secretary and was a member of the Couples Sunday School Class at the church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4346 in Toccoa. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Segars, and by a brother, Donald Segars.
Funeral services will be held today at 3:30 p.m. from the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home. The Revs. Talmadge Chandler, Jerrell Beatty and Paul Garrison will officiate. Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Smalley Segars; a son and daughter-in-law, Artie and Lisa Segars of Toccoa; three grandchildren, Kayla Segars, Grant Segars and Jake Segars; two brothers, Dennis Segars of Deland, Fla. and Richard Segars of Milledgeville; a sister, Carolyn Ayers of Hartwell and a half sister, Sandra Schumann of Hephzibah.

Ida Hallford Davis
Ida Hallford Davis, 80, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died Saturday, March 31, 2001.
Born in Toccoa, she was married
for 55 years and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to countless people. She and her late husband, Hubert Miles Davis, devoted the last years of their lives serving veterans and former prisoners of war nationwide in obtaining veterans’ benefits.
Memorial services were held Tuesday from the Calvary Baptist Church chapel in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Rev. Dr. Bruce Chesser officiated. Interment followed on Wednesday at Andersonville National Cemetary in Andersonville.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Davis Devereaux of Montgomery, Ala. and Donna Davis Hill of Atlanta; a brother, Pope Corbin Hallford Jr. of Hendersonville, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Devereaux Segers and her husband, Timothy John Segers of Birmingham, Ala. and Jeffrey Charles Hill of Atlanta.

James Crunkleton
James Murlon Crunkleton, 82, of Commerce, formerly of Toccoa and Cornelia, died Thursday, March 29, 2001.
A native of Banks County, he was a son of the late Rev. J.H. and Lillie Mae Wall Crunkleton. He was of the Baptist faith, and was Baptized by his father. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European and Pacific theatres, and was also a 50-year member of the Toccoa Masonic Lodge.
Memorial services were held Tuesday from the Whitlock Mortuary Chapel. Clarence Davis officiated.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor P. Crunkleton; two sons, Wayne Crunkleton and Robert Crunkleton; a daughter, Penelope Crunkleton; a sister, Laurene Cabe of Toccoa; a brother, John H. Crunkleton of Clayton and three grandchildren.

Bob Dawson
Bob Dawson, 74, of Davis Road in Toccoa, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001.
Born Nov. 21, 1926 in Nodaway County, Mo., he was a son of the late Ernest and Florence Sanders Dawson. He was a member of Toccoa Masonic Lodge #309 and was of the Methodist Faith. He was owner of Dawson Construction Company. He enjoyed his garden, hunting, fishing and selling produce.
Funeral services will be held today from the Whitlock Mortuary Chapel. The Revs. Clack Stubbs and Bill Stacey will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselane Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Susie Eiler Dawson; three sons, Kermit Dawson of Martin, Kendall Dawson of Eastanollee and Thomas Dawson of Toccoa; three daughters, Gwen Biby of Fulton, Mo., Shirlene Marley of Lebanon, Mo., and Edna Pruitt of Toccoa; a brother, Jimmy Dawson of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Eleanor Malam, Joy Green and Judy Ewer, all of Independence, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Olen H. Segars 72, of Lavonia, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001.
Born May 10, 1928 in Hart County, he was a son of the late Holman Segars and Fannie Segars. He was retired from WABCO and the owner/operator of Segars Motors in Lavonia. He was a member of the Lavonia Church of God. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mert Hill and Willella Jordan; three brothers, Ralph Segars, Evander Segars and Buford Segars; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Thursday from the Lavonia Church of God. The Rev. Williard Fitzpatrick officiated. Interment followed in Franklin Memorial Gardens North in Lavonia.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Segars; two daughters, Judy Segars of Lavonia and Ruby Segars Williams of Panama City, Fla; two brothers, B.D. Segars of Lavonia and Bill Segars of Hartwell; two grandchildren Jennifer Prince and Jeremy Prince.
