Mrs. Essie Reese Griswell

MITCHELL, Ga..- Mrs. Essie Reese Griswell, 78, a lifelong resident of Glascock County, entered into rest Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004 at Doctors Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Mitchell United Methodist Church with Rev. W.E. Thompson and Rev. Larry Giles officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Essie was a member of the Mitchell United Methodist Church. She was very active with the Mitchell Springfest. She will be remembered for her selfless devotion to family and friends. Mrs. Essie put other's needs before her own and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Always cheerful, she never said an unkind word about anyone.

Survivors are her loving husband of 53 years, Mr. Louis Griswell; one brother, Donnie Reese of Thomson; four sisters, Bessie Bone of North Augusta, Ozilla Marsh of Gibson, Lucille Kea of Rockledge and Nan Lee Coley of Lawrenceville and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearer s are Jody Usry, Rodney Wilcher, Branson Marsh, Anthony Griswell, Derrick Usry and Mike Chance.

Memorials may be made to the Concerned Citizens of Glascock County in care of Mrs. Corene Chalker, 3037 Bastonville Road, Gibson, Ga. 30810.

Sheppard Funeral Home, Gibson, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kay V. Matlock
Retired Bookkeeper
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Kay V. Matlock, of Evans, entered into rest on Friday, December 17, 2004 at University Hospital. Funeral services were held at Platt's Belair Road Chapel on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Phillip Winsett officiating. Burial followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Amy Matlock Huff and Matthew of Dearing; four brothers, Paul L. Vintson, Bob T. Vintson, Carl E. Vintson and Cecil Ray Vintson, all of Evans; two grandchildren, David Alexander Huff and Lauren Elizabeth Huff.

A native of Dora, AL., Mrs. Matlock was a retired bookkeeper with the Columbia County Board of Education. She was a member of Martinez Baptist Church and the Georgia Teachers Association. Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Matlock's Nephews.

Platt's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Janie Bell Templeton Phillips
GIBSON, Ga.- Mrs. Janie Bell Templeton Phillips, 91, entered into rest December 13, 2004 at McDuffie County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Moore and family friend Sara Cranford officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips was a native of Jefferson County. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by a husband Mr. William G. Templeton, and also Mr. Samson Phillips, two twin children, Frankie Templeton and Frances Templeton Ellis.

Survivors include three sons, James Morris Templeton, Silverspring, MD; William Ray Templeton, Thomson; Charles Michael Ellis, Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Alice Buckner, Gibson; and Jo Turner, Hartwell; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were James Cranford, James Thompson, Tony Sexton, Chuck Norton, Larry Herndon, Jack Templeton, Curtis James and Gene Prescott. James Funeral Home, Oaklawn Chapel, Inc., of Wrens, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Agnes Sheppard
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Agnes Sheppard, 91, died Friday, December 17, 2004, in the Thomson Manor Nursing Home. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, in the Wrens City Cemetery, with Rev. Roy White officiating.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Norma Jean Story
THOMSON, Ga.- The funeral for Ms. Norma Jean Story, 54, of Thomson, was held on Saturday, December 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Anthoni D. McElrath, Pastor officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Barry Story, Augusta; a daughter, Dianna Davis Battle, Thomson; common law husband, Glenn Hunt, Thomson; six sisters, Robbie A. Daniel, Carson, Calf., Jeannie Mae McNair, Thomson, Gail Bell, Atlanta, Christine Johnson, Thomson, Bernita Bell, Thomson and Linda Foston, Milledgeville; a brother, Roger Story, Thomson; six grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Peggy Cook Blair
BEECH ISLAND, S.C.-- Mrs. Peggy Cook Blair, 77, wife of W. S. Blair, entered into rest Sunday, December 12, 2004. Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rev. Mark Owens officiating.
Pallbearers were Sully Blair, Dan Blair, Justin Blair, Rody Brown, Kevin Brown and Anthony Brown.

Mrs. Blair was born in Mt. Hope, Ala., and was the daughter of the late Leo and Sue Cook. Mrs. Blair had lived in the North Augusta area for all of her life and retired from Georgia Natural Gas Company on September 30, 1989.

Additional survivors include a daughter Rebecca Brown and her husband, Anthony of Edgefield, SC; two sons, Danny C. Blair, Sr. and his wife, Kathy of North Augusta, S.C, W. A. Blair and his wife, Angela of Thomson; a brother, Gibson Cook of Crab Orchard, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Kevin Brown, Rody Brown, Danny Blair, Jr., Justin Blair, Katie Hearn, Sully Blair, Jennifer Blair; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Blair and Sonny Schauman; two step-grandchildren, Adam Richards and Courtney Richards of Thomson.

Mr. Harry "Woody" Boyd
GIBSON, Ga.- Mr. Harry "Woody" Boyd, 61, of 3925 Buster Circle Point, entered into rest Sunday, December 5, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 1 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Garren, Rev. Jerry Rockefeller and Rev. Ed Renew officiating. Interment followed at Coleman Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wadley.

Woody served in the Army where he received numerous Medals including a Purple Heart. He was a member of Coleman Chapel United Methodist Church and was employed with the Jefferson County Magistrate Court as a Constable for nine years. He is preceded in death by his mother Ivey Dell Newsome McZilkey and father Milton McZilkey.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Linda Boyd; three sons, Kevin Boyd, Milledgeville, Tommy (Pam) Rodgers, Thomson; Daniel (Heather) Rodgers, Dublin; three daughters, Suzanne (Shawn) Bowden, Beach Island, SC; Leigh (Ryan) Coxville, Gibson; Chrissy Wiggins, Harlem; step-mother, Betty McZilkey, Harlem; two brothers James (Donna) Boyd, North Charleston, SC; Alvin Phillips, Harlem; one sister, Kathleen (Jim) McCarty, Thomson; grandchildren Kelli (Stevie) Cooper, Maranda Rodgers, Sabrina Rodgers, Autumn, Alexis and Ryleigh Coxville, Lori Spelts, Amanda Bowden, Travis Rodgers, Brandon Bowden, Jason Ford, great-granddaughter, Alyssa Cooper; and devoted friend Betty Bowman, Wadley;.

Honorary Pallbearers were Jefferson County Law Enforcement, and Glascock County Sheriff Bryan Bopp. Pallbearers were Murry Bowman, Johnny Hayes, Shawn Bowden, Marcus Miller, Joe Davis, and Mitchell McGraw.

Mrs. Katherine Scott Brown
THOMSON, Ga.- The funeral for Mrs. Katherine Scott Brown, 77, of Thomson, was held on Saturday, December 11, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Stoney Grove C.M.E. Church in Warren County with Rev. Ralph Moore officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors are two sons, Robert Brown, Jr. of Alabama and Nathaniel (Earline) Brown, Thomson; one sister, LuJessie Wattin of New York; one brother, Roy (Oteria) Scott of Atlanta; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Thomson Funeral System was in charge off arrangements.

Sister Annie Bell Edwards
THOMSON, Ga.- Homegoing celebration for Sister Annie Bell Edwards, 89, of Thomson, were held on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the United House of Prayer For All People, Dearing. St. Elder W.P. Scott, Pastor officiating. Interment, Thursday, December 9, 2004 at 10 a.m. in the church cemetery.
Sister Edwards was a faithful member of The United House of Prayer where she had served under the leadership of all three Bishops.

Survivors are five sons, Dec. James (Georgia) Turman, Elder Charles (Ezella) Edwards, Dec. Walter (Brenda) Edwards, Jr., Bro. Marcus Edwards and Dec. Johnny (Christine) Edwards, all of Dearing; three daughters, Sister Johnnie Walker, Dearing; St. Mary Johnson, Harlem and St. Annie Belton, Thomson; one brother, John (Julia) Hampton, Augusta; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Hobbs, Atlanta; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sara Dell McGahee
Retired Bookkeeper
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Sara Dell McGahee, 74, of Thomson, entered into rest December 10, 2004 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
She was the loving mother of five daughters, Mary Patsy Reese (Bill), Mitchell, Rita Faure (Miguel), Appling, Gloria Machalk (Brian), Louisville, Kathy Gunnels (David), Wrens, Tonya Gunby (Robert), Stapleton; sister, Juanita Welmaker, Warrenton; nine grandchildren, Matthew Holley, Tammie Graham, Travis Holley, Eric Usry, Chris Gunnels, Sarah Gunnels, Beth Gunnels, Cody Gunby and Kimberly Gunby; one great-grandchild, Haleigh Graham.

Mrs. McGahee was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County, Georgia. She was retired as a Bookkeeper. Mrs. McGahee was also a member of First Baptist Church, Thomson and was a member of the Thomson Lioness Club.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2004 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Widener officiating. Interment followed in West View cemetery in Thomson.

Pallbearers were Matthew Holley, Eric Usry, Shannon Graham, Chris Gunnels, Matthew McGahee, Stanley McGahee, Brandon McGahee and Josh McGahee.

Mrs. Elizabeth (Aunt Jack) Pettis
Retired Dental Assistant
THOMSON, Ga.- Homegoing service for Mrs. Elizabeth (Aunt Jack) Pettis, 99, of Pine Lane, Thomson were held on Monday, December 13, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Springfield Baptist Chruch, Rev. F. D. Favors, Pastor, officiating. Interment was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Survivors are a son, Frank (Lois) James, Evans; devoted nephews, Clarence Hart and Ralph (Barbara) Hart of Thomson, Eugene Hart, Kings Mountain, N.C. and Leonard (Cathy) Hart of Hephzibah; four granchildren; other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge off arrangements.
