Mr. Claude Jackson "Jack" Higdon, Jr.
BONEVILLE, Ga.- Mr. Claude Jackson "Jack" Higdon, Jr., 78, of Boneville, died Friday, August 13, 2004, in the University Hospital after an extended illness.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Sunday in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Elder George Nichols officiating.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Burial followed in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Higdon was a native of McDuffie County, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Harlem. He began his career in Electronics Communications and later retired from Georgia Tennessee Mining Company in Wrens.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mamie Reese Higdon of Boneville; 10 children, Leon Higdon, Debra Seek, Wynona Johnson, Claudia Smith, all of Boneville, Wayne Higdon of Harlem, Justin Higdon of North Augusta, Melissa Ivey Taylor of Blairsville, Cindy Graham, Regina Stribel, Wanda Tankersly of Thomson; sister, Hazel Brown of Midville; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Martin T. Johnson, Sr.
Retired Army Veteran
GIBSON, Ga.- Mr. Martin T. Johnson, Sr., 57, of Gibson, entered into rest Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Eisenhower Medical Center, Ft. Gordon.
Funeral services with full military honors were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Gibson Church of God with Rev. Richard Kitchens and Rev. Steve Lamb officiating. Interment was at Bethel U.M.C. Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Gibson Church of God. He was retired after 21 years of service in the Army Airborne Division where he served as Culinary Chef and also taught others how to be a chef. He earned a Purple Heart in the Vietnam War, Infantry Division.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Mrs. Nora 'Candy' Brooks Johnson; two sons, Martin Thomas Johnson, Jr. of Gibson and Tommy Malcolm Johnson and his wife, Roxann of Norfolk, Va.; one daughter, Annamarie Kitchens and her husband, Chris of Dearing; two grandchildren, Brittany and Breanna Kitchens of Dearing; his mother and stepfather, Florene and Ken Kurtz of Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, John M. Johnson and his wife, Renee of Annapolis, Maryland; two sisters-in-law, Gail Newsome of Thomson, Faye Redfern of Dublin; one nephew, T. H. Haygood of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and one niece, Vickie Johnson of Annapolis, Md.

Pallbearers were Lester Newsome, Charles Hadden, Mike Lyons, Thomas Chalker, Julian Kitchens and Talmadge Chalker.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carzell Rocker
SPARTA, Ga.- Mr. Carzell Rocker, 51, died August 7, 2004.
He is survived by his mother, Bessie Rocker, Sparta; four children, Carlos Rocker, Athens, Chiquita Rocker, Carmeka Rogers, Jamie Birdsong, all of Sparta; three sisters, Diane Deveraux and Lela Dixon, both of Sparta, Pat Walker of Mannheim, Germany; one brother, Kelvin Rocker, Thomson and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Trinity CME Church at 2 p.m. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Ingram Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ezell Climons
THOMSON, Ga.- Funeral services for Mr. Ezell Climons, 43, of Pitts Street, Thomson, who died August 5, 2004, were held on Monday, August 9, 2004, at 3 p.m., at the Greater St. James A.M.E. Church, Thomson. Rev. Gerald Caldwell, Pastor, officiating. Interment was in Hickory Tree Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Annie Climons; six daughters, Shenika Howard, Ty'Shieka Howard, Tykia Howard, Lakyia Howard, Etoria Howard and Shemika Howard, all of Thomson; two stepdaughters, Shawkenna Bradshaw and Valerie McCord, both of Thomson; two sisters, Judy Climons and Lorene Story, both of Thomson; four brothers, Leroy Climons, Alexander Climons and John Climons, all of Thomson and David Johnson, of Augusta; four grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, two aunts, Louise Diggs of Thomson and Mattie Pearl Stephens of Brunswick; two uncles, John Martin of Thomson and Albert Stephens of Brunswick, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System, Thomson, was in charge.

Ms. Joann Robinson Calliham
TRENTON, S.C.- Ms. Joann Robinson Calliham, 63, of Ashley Circle, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home with burial at Sweetwater Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Calliham was a native of Edgefield County and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Jan Sliter, Trenton, Kathy Smith, Belvedere; two sons, Mark Calliham, Creedmor, N.C., Tommy Calliham, North Augusta; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; six sisters, Polly Watson, Columbia, Grace Derrick, Trenton, Mae Harrelson, Augusta, Irene Hutchinson, Martinez, Neelie Fields, Trenton, Sue Phillips, Thomson; two brothers, Bud Robinson and Walter Robinson, both of Grovetown. The family is at the home of her daughter, Jan on Ashley Circle and will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Augustus Hobbs
Retired Military
AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mr. Augustus Hobbs, 81, of Meadowbrook Drive, died Thursday, August 5, 2004, in the Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
Mr. Hobbs was a native of Warren County, but had lived in Augusta for many years. He was retired from the military and was an Army veteran of WWII and Korean War. He was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sister, Audrey Moon, Thomson; two brothers, Clinton Hobbs, Thomson and W. Henry Hobbs, Dearing.

There will be no services or visitation.

Mrs. Sara Neal Hughes
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Sara Neal Hughes, 73, beloved wife of Mr. George Odis Hughes, of Beechwood Drive, died Monday, August 2, 2004, in the University Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 5, in the Thomson First Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Ramsey and Rev. Josh Hughes officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hughes was a native of Warren County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was the President of Hughes Furniture, Inc. She was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. George Odis Hughes, Thomson; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra A. Hughes and Don Clauson, Martinez and Linda Hughes and Jim Blackmon, Thomson; her three grandchildren, Caleb Clauson-Hughes, Sara Blackmon-Hughes and Grace Blackmon-Hughes and her step-grandson, Jimmy Blackmon.

Pallbearers were Leon Millholland, Sr., Major Leon Millholland, Jr., Dr. Carroll Hughes, Dr. Bob Hughes, Jr., Larry Hughes, David Hughes, Thomas Hughes and David Everson. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men's Bible Class.

Mrs. Shelby Dukes Miller

DEARING, Ga.- Mrs. Shelby Dukes Miller, 62, widow of the late Mr. Carroll (Sam) Miller of Dearing, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Wednesday in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Miller was a native of Dublin, Ga., a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Kevin Greene of Dearing; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Pattie Miller of Thomson; son, Jason Miller of Vidalia; mother, Della Dukes of Dublin; sister, Julia Kilgore of Dublin; brother, Randy Dukes of Milledgeville; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Leroy Edison Odell
Retired Crew Leader with Club Car
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Leroy Edison Odell, 67, of Thomson, entered into rest August 7, 2004 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Marian Decker Odell.
Mr. Odell was a native of Peekskill, New York, but had lived in the Columbia and McDuffie County area since 1976. He was the son of the late Robert S. Odell and the late Dorothy Brown Odell. Mr. Odell was also retired from Club Car and was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Decker Odell; four sons, Leroy (Lee) Odell, Dearing, Brian Odell, Florida, Charles Anderson, New York, Gary Anderson, Dearing; five daughters, Charlene Pulsoni, New York, Gail Eglit, New York, Patricia Ackerley, Massachusetts, Pamela Olivieri, New York, Gay Ackermann, New York; one brother, Bruce Odell, New York; one sister, Beverly Crawford, Virginia; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. , August 10, 2004 at the Beggs Funeral Home.

Mr. Marion L. Reid, Sr.
U.S. Army Veteran
THOMSON, Ga.-- Mr. Marion L. Reid, Sr., 82, husband of Mrs. Margie Street Reid, of Thomson, entered into rest August 3, 2004, at the VA Medical Center, Augusta.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Friday August 6, 2004, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 5589 Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown, with Harold Carter officiating.

Mr. Reid, a native of Richmond County, was a retired carpenter and a member of the Local Carpenters Union #283. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Margie S. Reid; one son, Marion L. Reid, Jr., of Harlem; one daughter, Lynda Smith, of Griffin; one brother, David Reid, of Augusta and five grandchildren.
