ATLANTA, Ga.- Thelma Winfrey Bradshaw, 67, of Atlanta, died Sunday, August 15, 2004.
Ms. Bradshaw was an Atlanta resident since the age of 21 and was previously from Thomson.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004 in Eternal Hills Chapel with Rev. Taylor officiating.

Mrs. Carolyn Kirkland Carter
CLEARWATER, S.C.- Memorial services for Mrs. Carolyn Kirkland Carter, 59, of Clearwater, S.C., who died August 18, 2004, were conducted Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. from St. John's Episcopal Church, North Augusta, S.C. Rev. Robert M. Hartley officiating. Interment was private.
Mrs. Carter was a native of Augusta, having made Clearwater her home for the past 45 years. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, retired from King Mill. Mrs. Carter was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth James Moon; her father, Jesse Kirkland and her sister, Marie Thompson.
Survivors include her husband, William Mitchell Carter; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa M. and Jack Westbrook and Shannon M. and Wade T. Gordy, Jr., both of Jackson; mother, Cora L. Kirkland, Clearwater; one brother, Gerald Kirkland, Macon, Ga.; four grandsons, Jonathan R. Watkins, Kyle Busbee , Blake Busbee, and Wade Thomas Gordy III, all of Jackson; one granddaughter, Leigh Gordy, Thomson.

Mr. John D. Gardner, Sr.
Retired
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. John D. Gardner, Sr., long-time Thomson resident, passed away on August 17, 2004 at the UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He was 82.
Mr. Gardner settled in Thomson upon his discharge from the U.S. Army after World War II. He served in the 10th Armored Division and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He worked at Johnson Chevrolet and later ran his own garage. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a charter member of Raysville Boat Club.
Mr. Gardner is survived by Louise, his wife of 60 years; by his brother, Bob, of Brandon, Mississippi; his daughter, Lee Ann of Birmingham and by his son, David of Atlanta.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Savannah Valley memorial Gardens.

Mr. Kenneth R. Griffin

THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Kenneth R. Griffin, 69, of Thomson, entered into rest August 17, 2004 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Nora (Elean) Griffin.
Mr. Griffin was a native of Glascock County, but lived in Thomson for the past 42 years. He was the son of the late Dewitt C. Griffin and the late Emily Kent Griffin. Mr. Griffin also served in the U. S. Air Force, and attended Norris Chapel Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Kay Davis (Mike) of Martinez, Linda Hampton (Bob) of Warner Robbins, Glenda Newman (Billy) of Martinez; two brothers, James Griffin of Augusta, William Griffin of Appling; five sisters, Betty Moore of Harlem, Eula Ween Stewart of Gibson, Sara Louise Griffin of Augusta, Mildred Ann Dreifuss of Warner Robbins, Brenda Odum of Thomasville; three grandchildren, Ryan Hampton, Patricia Calamas and Marcus Hampton; a special daughter and son, Rhonda and Robin Spicer.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Norris Chapel Church with the Revs. Jimmy Richardson and L. M. Hobbs, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Zoar United Methodist Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robin Spicer, William Newman, Marcus Hampton, Ronnie Landrum, Robert Landrum, Jr. and Benjamin Dreifuss.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Norris Chapel Church.

Mr. C. Benjamin Harnsberger
MACON, Ga.- Mr. C. Benjamin Harnsberger, 89, of Macon, died Aug. 19, 2004, at his residence.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 21, at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, with Dr. Robert Setzer and Dr. L.W. Bowen officiating. A private burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Harnsberger, son of the late Clyde Warren and Rosa Elmyra Wright Harnsberger, was born in Lincoln County, and served in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Athens Business College had owned and operated several motels including Ramada Inn and Howard Johnson and had also been in insurance. Mr. Harnsberger was a member of First Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon. He was also a member of Golden K Kiwanis Club and Masonic Lodge No. 5 F&AM.;
Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years, Jeanette (Jimmie) W. Harnsberger; his son, Dr. B. Dan (Sandra) Harnsberger, Chattanooga; his daughter, Lee H. (George) Limbocker of Suwanee; grandchildren, Scott and Tabitha Harnsberger, Laura and Rob Parker, Anne and Trey Carr, Brian and Julie Limbocker and Leslie Limbocker; nine great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Esther Bolton, Griffin.

AUGUSTA, Ga.- Little 3-year-old Ja'Shayla Amaya Harris (Snoopy) entered into rest August 17, 2004.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 21, 2004, 3:30 p.m. at William Grove Baptist Church in Warrenton, Ga., with Rev. Golden Lott officiating.
Survivors include her mother, Elizabeth Lott, Augusta; father, James Harris Warrenton; two sisters, Arkeya Smith, Augusta, and Kenya Flournoy, Thomson; four brothers, Xzvaier Harris, Isaiah Lott, Augusta; Corey Flournoy, Statesboro; James Flournoy, Warrenton; grandparents, William Flournoy, Annie Lott, Warrenton; and Morris Lott, Sparta.

Mr. Lewis R. Newsome

THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Lewis R. Newsome, 75, of Thomson, passed away on August 20, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Dahlia Abbott Newsome.
Mr. Newsome was a native of Warren County, but lived in Thomson since 1974. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service. Mr. Newsome was also a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Newsome is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dahlia Abbott Newsome; son, James A. Newsome of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Brenda (Keith) Jones of Jeffersonville and Kathy (Whit) Whittington of Thomson; two brothers, Leon Newsome, Sr., of Thomson and Melvin Newsome of Vidalia; one sister, Dessie Lee (Willie) Griffith of Jonesboro; one grandson, Warner Jones; three granddaughters, Jennifer Giles, Shellie Smith and Lynette DeLoach; one great-granddaughter, Ashley DeLoach; and his mother-in-law, Ruby Abbott of Warrenton.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, August 22, 2004, in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Drs. George Freeman and Pat Shannon officiating. Interment followed in the Johnson cemetery in Warren County.
Pallbearers were William Griffith, Jr., Leon Newsome, Jr., John Giles, Dwight Foster, Glen Foster, Kenneth Adair, Pat Smith, and Randal Louk. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Abbott, Galen Welch, Larry Agner, Bill Jopling, Jack Sims, Johnny Davidson, Bob Hawkins, Gene Helson, and Al Williams.

Mr. Donald Perry (Don) Letteer
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Donald Perry (Don) Letteer, 74, beloved husband of Dorothy Letteer of Thomson, died Friday, August 13, 2004, in the St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 28, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. George Freeman officiating.
A native of Atlanta, Mr. Letteer was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church, and was owner and operator of Letteer's Auto Repair in Thomson.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Letteer, Thomson; two sons, David Carl Letteer, Brighton, MI, and Donald P. Letteer Jr., Thomson; a daughter, Gina Marie Graham, Hephzibah; sisters, Carolyn Drees, Annapolis, MD and Virginia Rollick, North Carolina; a brother, Roy Letteer, Dallas, TX; and six grandchildren.

NORWOOD, Ga.-- Mrs. Annie Jean Bedsole, 82, of Norwood, entered into rest Monday, August 9, 2004 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 Graveside at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Evangelist Donald Walton officiated.
Mrs. Bedsole was a native of Taliaferro County, daughter of the late Lucy Evans Wheeler and Lincoln F. Wheeler. She was a member of Norwood Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Cicero P. Bedsole and a homemaker. She had been a resident of Warrenton Health and Rehab Center for the past three years.
Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Ruby W. and Algie Hinton of Warrenton; one nephew, Russell Hinton and his wife, Kim of Lawrenceville; two nieces, Lauren Walton and her husband, Evangelist Donald Walton, Julie Cook and a sister-in-law, Hope Wheeler, all of Kansas City, Mo., as well as several great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were W. F. Norris, Tommy Harwell, Phil Smith, Donnie Reese, David Harper, and Jimmy Yelton.
Sister Earnestine S. Belton
THOMSON, Ga.- The homegoing celebration for Sister Earnestine S. Belton, 78, of Thomson, was held on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 4 p.m. at the United House of Prayer for All People, Dearing. St. Elder Marion Hill, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors are two sons, Charlie Belton of Thomson, David Belton of Dearing; two sisters, Mrs. Betsy Pearl Davis and Mrs. Agnes Taylor, both of Thomson; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

THOMSON, Ga.- The funeral for Mrs. Cotessa J. Brown, 73, of Mobley Street, Thomson, who died August 10, 2004, was held on Friday, August 13, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Poplar Head Baptist Church of Christ, Dearing, Rev. David Lowe presiding, Rev. Coleman Hayes, eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Shirley Cato
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Shirley Cato, 57, widow of Mr. Lee Roy Cato, Sr., of Thomson, died Thursday, August 12, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 14, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial was in the Westview Cemetery.
Mrs. Cato was a native of Wilkes County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Scarlett Brown, Thomson; her two sons, Lee Roy Cato, Jr. and David Cato, both of Thomson; her mother, Frances Turner, Thomson; her three sisters, Elizabeth Quaterman, Savannah, Sandra Price and Cynthia Withrow, both of Thomson; her three brothers, William Turner, Raymond Turner and Jimmy Turner, all of Thomson; three grandchildren and a great-niece, Lindsey Turner.

Mr. Denny Freeman

THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Denny Freeman, 69, beloved husband of Mrs. Betty Freeman of Thomson, died Friday, August 13, 2004, at his residence.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 16, 2004, in the Westview Cemetery, Augusta, with Father Edward O'Connor officiating.
Mr. Freeman was a native of Glascock County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member the Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He had worked for over 30 years with the Wilkes County Sheriff Department, the Harlem Police Department and the Columbia County Sheriff Department, where he retired as a Bailiff.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Freeman, Thomson; two daughters, Candy Coggins and Jan Freeman, both of Thomson; a son, Jeff Freeman, Thomson; a brother, D.B. Freeman, Florida; a brother-in-law, Alton (Denise) Rodgers, Evans; five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Columbia County Sheriff Deparment.
