Mrs. Ruth Poss Rogers
Easley, S.C.- Mrs. Ruth Poss Rogers, 88, of Easley, S.C., wife of the late Francis C. "Speedy" Rogers, died surrounded by her loved ones Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at her home.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Gravley Jr., Rev. Edwin Taylor and the Rev. Ken Whitt officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Born in Wilkes County, the daughter of the late Leonard and Jettie Lee Poss, Mrs. Rogers retired from Alta Vista Nursing Home. She was a member of Galillee Baptist Church and the Jon Ellen Gravley Sunday School Class.

She is survived by two sons, Robert "Bob" Rogers and Elizabeth of Easley, Leonard N. Rogers, and Sherry of Escondido, Calif.; three sisters, Leila Nunnally, Helen Phillips and Annette Thigpen, all of Georgia; one brother, John E. Poss of Florida; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Janie Ruth Holden, four brothers, Warren, Boyce, Thomas and Cecil Poss and one sister, Ralphine Powers.

Ms. Annie Margaret Blackburn
MILLEN, Ga.- Ms. Annie Margaret Blackburn, 80, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at University Hospital following an extended illness.
She was a life-long resident of Jenkins County and was retired after many years of service from the Thomson Company and as dietician for the Jenkins County Hospital. Mrs. Blackburn was a member of the Elam Baptist Church where she was active in the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and the Senior Adult Merry Makers.

Funeral Services were at 11 a.m. Friday at the Elam Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her three sons, Franklin Johnson of Conyers, Raymond Blackburn and Randy Blackburn, both of Millen and her daughter, Brenda B. Mathern also of Millen; her brother, Tyre Gay of Augusta; three sisters, Tommie Canady of Millen, Rebie Johnson of Garfield and Eris Wright of Homestead, Fla.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ben Franklin Johnson and Raymond Eason Blackburn.

Mrs. Polly Lampp Brassell
Seamstress
GIBSON, Ga.- Mrs. Polly Lampp Brassell, 70, of Gibson, entered into rest Friday, September 3, 2004, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sept. 4 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Sam Collins and Richard Kitchens officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Brassell was a native of Jefferson County, but lived in Glascock County most of her life and she attended Bethel U.M.C.

She is survived by her loving husband, Mr. David. L. Brassell; three daughters, Pamala Brassell of Gibson, Kathy Thorton and her husband, James of Union Point and Gail Deane of Clarksville; two sons, Richard Brassell and his wife, Deborah of Gibson and Lewis Brassell and his wife, Kellie of Stapleton; two sisters, Mae Reese of Thomson and Catherine Marsh of Gibson; two brothers, T.J. Lampp of Gibson and Ray Lampp of Thomson; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dean Couch, Wayne McDonald, Stevie Lampp, Tony Lampp, Ricky Coxville and James May.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Marvin (Jim) Cain
Retired Equipment Operator
JENNINGS, Fla.- Mr. James Marvin (Jim) Cain, 80, of Jennings, Fla., formerly of Thomson, died Sunday, September 5, 2004 in the VA Medical Center in Lake City, Fla.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home in Alma, Georgia with Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating.

Pallbearers were Tracy Medders, Morris Chaffin III, Brad Orr, David Lessiter, Brett Lessiter and Richard Stohlmann. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

A native of Alma, Mr. Cain was a son of the late Thomas and Nora Mercer Cain. An U.S. Army Veteran, he retired after several years of service from McDuffie County as a heavy equipment operator and attended the Jennings Church of God. He was preceded in death by two wives, Inez Music Cain and Sallie Mae Meadows Cain and is survived by sisters, Janie Mercer of Jennings, Fla. and Cristine Medders of Alma and several nieces and nephews.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Mildred Collins Davis
THOMSON, Ga. -- Ms. Mildred Collins Davis of Thomson, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at University Hospital in Augusta at age 83. She was the widow of Bob Davis of Winterville and sister of the late Llew Wall of Thomson.
The funeral was conducted Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the Knox Chapel of Thomson First United Methodist Church with Dr. George Freeman officiating. A graveside service and interment was held at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Highway in Athens.

Ms. Davis' survivors include a niece, Dianne Federovitch of Stockbridge; two nephews, Jim Wall of Perry and Mike Wall of Thomson; three great nieces, Autumn Wilbanks of Warner Robins, Jennifer Federovitch of Atlanta and Mariah Wall of Thomson; two great nephews, John Michael Federovitch of Mountain View, California and Jay Wall of Perry and a great great niece, Ali Wilbanks of Warner Robins.

According to the family "Middy" enjoyed their company, frequently preparing delicious baked goods on special occasions. She had a real love for animals and enjoyed the companionship of her 21 year old cat, Jill.

Mrs. Elaine C. Greene
Retired administrative assistant
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Elaine C. Greene, 84, widow of the late Mr. Roscoe Greene, of Thomson, died Sunday, September 5, 2004 at her residence. Graveside services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Jim Ramsey officiating.
A native of Thomson, Mrs. Greene was the daughter of the late Herschel and Viola Griffin Crawley. She retired after more than 30 years of service as an administrative assistant from Thomson Company and was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener and her love for gardening won her Yard of the Month.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Renee Greene of Brandon, Miss.; two grandchildren, Caroline Renee Greene and Andrew Roscoe Greene, both of Brandon, Miss and several nieces and nephews.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John David Hobbs
AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mr. John David Hobbs, of Martinez, died Saturday, September 4, 2004, at the University Hospital.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Platt's Belair Road Chapel with Rev. Steve Spencer officiating. Burial followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hobbs was a longtime resident of Martinez. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was retired from Civil Service at Ft. Gordon. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Evans and a member of Masonic Lodge 710, in Martinez.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Edna Newsome Hobbs; a son, Dennis Hobbs and wife, Lee, of Evans; two daughters, Deborah Sloan-Walker and husband, Gordon, of Shreveport, La. and Phyllis Martin and husband, Randy, of Thomson; son-in-law, Dr. Allen Sloan of Augusta; a sister, Blondell H. Story of Evans; six grandchildren and four step grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bob Barnes, Clifford Jeffcoat, Todd Matthews, Bill Shank , Glen Thompson and Paxton Thompson.

If so desired Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Evans, 515 N. Belair Road Evans, Ga. 30809, or to the Charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Katherine Washington McNair

DEARING, Ga.- Mrs. Katherine Washington McNair, 78, of Dearing, entered into rest August 30, 2004 at Thomson Manor. She was the beloved wife of the late Doc McNair.
Survivors include son, Sammy McNair (Becky), Dearing; daughter, Kay Powell, Dearing; sisters, Marie Petrusick, Lexington, S.C., Allean Neal, Dearing; grandchildren, Jason Powell, Elaine Rich, Larry Hawkins, Lee Hawkins, Lynn Hawkins, Scott Craven, Billie Jean Portwood, Angel Kent; great-grandchildren, Mallary Powell, Kyle Hawkins, Cheyene Hawkins, Jay Hawkins, Jessie Hawkins, Marc Hawkins, Brian Hawkins, Lee Portwood, Makayla Kent, Mackenzie Kent, Madison Kent, Paige McCaslan Hawkins, Hunter Hawkins.

Mrs. McNair was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County and the daughter of the late Newt Washinton and the late Alma Bell Washington. She was a member of Silver Run Baptist Church and retired from the Thomson Company after 30 years.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2004 at Adams Chapel cemetery with Rev. John McMilliam officiating.

Pallbearers were Ed Oellerich, Dennis Washington, Larry Hawkins, Paul McNair, Jackie McNair, Ray Washington.

Mrs. Ralphine Lunceford Powers
Retired Thomson Company
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Ralphine Lunceford Powers, 82, widow of Mr. Foster Clay Powers of Thomson died Sunday, September 5, 2004 in the Thomson Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in the Thomson First Baptist Church, with Jim Ramsey officiating.

Pallbearers will be Michael McTier, Mike Levesque, Fred Tuten, Mike Lloyd, Franklin Jones and Dewayne Poss.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Wisteria cemetery in Union Point, Georgia.

A native of Taliaferro County, Mrs. Powers retired from Thomson Company after more than 30 years of service in the Stock Room as a packer, she was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church for more than 45 years, where she had taught a Children's Sunday School for several years.

Mrs. Powers is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Max McTier of Thomson; six sisters, Ruth Rogers of Easley, S.C., Annett Thigpin of Norword, Leila Nunnally of Thomson, Helen Phillips of Dearing, Eanor Mortland of Edison, N.J., Pat McGinn of Las Vegas; two brothers, John Poss of DeFuial Springs, Fla., Rev. Alex Linceford of Warner Robins; three grandchildren, LuAnn Levesque of Dearing, Michael McTier of Dearing and Timothy Howard McTier; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
