Mrs. Louise Luckey Brown

AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mrs. Louise Luckey Brown, 87, died at Doctors Hospital on Saturday September 25, 2004.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Crawford Ave. chapel of Platt's Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Carothers officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and attended Born Again Baptist Church.

Survivors include, three daughters, Sandra Kitchens and husband Dutch of Hephzibah, Norma Anne Drew and husband Greg of Augusta, and Donna Patricia Meek and husband Max of Aiken; two brothers, Wayne Luckey of Blythe and Johnny Luckey of Hephzibah; four sisters, Merle McCully of Thomson, Nelle Ashley of Harlem, Hazel Laube of Blythe, and Helen Miles also of Blythe; sixteen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and best friend and neighbor Mary Simpson.

Pallbearers were Nick Bates, Jeff Ashley, Randy Bates, Jim Highley, Greg Drew, and Brandon Drew.

Mr. Cecil Franklin Hogan
Retired Truck Driver
BONEVILLE, Ga.- Mr. Cecil Franklin Hogan, age 59, beloved husband of Barbara Hogan of Boneville, died Friday, September 24, 2004, at his residence.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2004, in the Curtis Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Mike Sutphin and Rev. Jimmy Richardson officiating.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Hogan was a son of the late William Harris Hogan and the late Kate Hogan Marino. He retired after more than 21 years of service as a truck driver from Kimberly-Clark and six years of service from Two State Construction Company. He was a member of the C.S.R.A. Road Angel's Car Club, and was a founding member of the Big Boys Tinker Toys Car Club.

Mr. Hogan was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Winston A. Hogan, Sr. and is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Sims Hogan of Boneville; daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Rodney Kitchings of Hephzibah; grandson, Preston Kitchings of Hephzibah; two sisters, Eva Cheely of McDonough and Cindy Dent of Thomson; brothers, and sisters-in-law, Bill and Mary Hogan Jr., of Huntsville, Ala. and Tony and Leverne Hogan of Washington, several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at 2623 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30904 or to United Hospice 1226 Augusta West Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909.

Mr. Grover Gibson Paul, Sr.
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Grover Gibson Paul, Sr., 84, beloved husband of Norma M. Paul, died Monday, September 21, 2004, in the University Hospital.
Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Friday in the Sweetwater Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Garvin and Rev. J.B. Redd officiating.

Mr. Paul was a lifelong resident of Thomson, a son of the late Lewellyn and Pearl Montgomery Paul Sr. He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving during World War II, a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church, and was the former owner and operator of Paul's Motor Company.

Mr. Paul is survived by his wife Norma Meadows Paul of Thomson; a son, Grover Gibson Paul, Jr. of Thomson; and a grandson, Dr. Travis Paul of Waycross.

Mr. Leroy Thigpen
Appliance repairman
MITCHELL, Ga.- Mr. Leroy Thigpen, 83, of Big Creek Road, Mitchell, entered into rest Thursday, September 23, 2004, at the Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center, Gibson.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday at Fellowship Church with the Rev. Carter Hudson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thigpen was a native of Glascock County, a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a mason in the Masonic Lodge No. 257. The family says he liked to sit and talk with others and he liked to fish.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mrs. Evelyn Usry Thigpen; two sons, W.M. Dwight Thigpen of Thomson and Tony Thigpen and his wife, Leslie of Mitchell; three daughters, Linda Newsome and her husband, Mike, of Ridge Spring, S.C., Faye Fries and her husband, Jim, of Hephzibah and Teresa Smith and her husband, Jim, of Phoenix City, Ala.; one brother, Mr. R.W. Thigpen of Mitchell; two sisters, Myrtice Dye of Modoc, S.C., and Leslie Guy of Augusta; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery Fund in care of Elsie Milburn at 712 Calhoun St. Gibson, GA 30810.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Miss Ellie Chance
SYLVANIA, Ga.- Miss Ellie Chance, 82, died Saturday, September 18, 2004, in University Hospital in Augusta.
The Screven County native was a member of the McDonald Baptist Church and was retired from the Thomson Company.

Survivors include four nieces and three nephews. Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Baptist Church with Rev. James N. Barnes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Great-nephews served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Helen Harrington Dunn
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Helen Harrington Dunn, 90, entered into rest September 13, 2004 at Warrenton Health and Rehabilitation.
Survivors include her daughter, Lucy Stanphill, (J.L.), Thomson; grandchildren, Jerry Stanphill, Melissa Stanphill, Kenny Dunn, Kevin Dunn, Londa Raab, Lorie Reed, William Schlerspinki, Janice Thomas; 13 great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 16, 2004 at McDonald Funeral Home Chapel, Centerville, Tenn. with Brother Mike Kelley officiating.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandson. Interment will follow in Charles L. Nichol Memorial Park.

Mr. Willie Grady Fortson
Retired from Pet Milk
WASHINGTON, Ga.- Mr. Willie Grady Fortson, 72, died Thursday at his home. Mr. Fortson was a native of Wilkes County, and was a son of the late Boyce H. Fortson and Willie B. House Fortson.
He worked for the Pet Milk Co. for 43 years, was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5899, was a member of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge # 23, and was a member of the American Legion, Lincolnton. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Washington First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Neville Fortson, of the home; one daughter, Patsy F. Mason, and husband Roy, of Rayle; one son, John Michael Fortson, and wife Fran, of Washington; one brother, Boyce Fortson, Jr., and wife Inez, of Danburg; two granddaughters, Jaclyn and Libby Fortson; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Pierce Chapel Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Roy Cates officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the V.F.W. Post #5899. Memorials may be made to V.F.W. Post # 5899, Washington, GA, 30673.

Mrs. Essie Mae King Hall
THOMSON, Ga.- Funeral services for Mrs. Essie Mae King Hall, 66, of Thomson, were held on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at noon at the Greater St. James AME Church. Rev. Gerald Caldwell officiating. Interment was in First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors are four God-children, nieces, nephews, Jennell Smith of Thomson, Cheryl Jackson of Leary, Ga., Jennie Johnson and Bobby Smith of Dearing; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Barbara Delores Hyatt
Homemaker
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Barbara Delores Hyatt, 76, entered into rest September 12, 2004 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her sons, Roy Irvin Hyatt, Harold H. Hyatt II (Joyce), Thomson; brothers, Buist Davis and Rhett Davis; sister, Betty Wittenberg; six grandchildren, Rachel Hyatt, Lauren Hyatt, Jessica Hyatt, Blake Hyatt, Emily Hyatt and Katie Hyatt.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2004 at Thomson Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Cook officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Osteoporosis Foundation.

Mrs. Juanita C. Lampkin
HARLEM, Ga.- Mrs. Juanita C. Lampkin peacefully and gracefully departed this life and entered into her new home in the presence of God on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at her residence.
Homegoing services were conducted Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 2 p.m. from New Holt Baptist Church with Reverend Melvin Adams, Jr. officiating. Interment was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Lampkin was a native of Columbia County, a member of New Holt Baptist Church where she was a member of G.R. Dean Gospel Choir. She was employed by the Columbia County Board of Education.

She leaves memories that will be forever cherished by her husband of 46 years, Mr. Francis Lampkin, Sr.; one devoted son, Francis (Wilhemenia) Lampkin, Jr.; two devoted daughters, Tanga L. Thomas and Lyndia (Richard) Sanders; her mother, Mrs. Julia Collier; one Godson, Joe Davis; one brother, Silas Collier, Sr., all of Harlem; mother-in-law, Mamie Lampkin, Thomson; six grandchildren, one great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
