THOMSON, Ga.- Ms. Cynthia Marchelle Hamilton, 38, a resident of Thomson, laid into rest Thursday, March 18, 2004 at University Hospital.
Her survivors include her parents, Sophia Harris of Thomson, and Odell (Mary) Hamilton of Hephzibah; two children, Clearence Rayford, Jr. of Thomson, and Olesia Hamilton of Thomson.

Funeral services for Cynthia Hamilton were held on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Willie "Aunt Ethel" McAlister
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Willie "Aunt Ethel" McAlister, 98, of Wrens Hwy, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held Saturday, March 20, 2004, in the Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rev. John Biggs officiating.

Mrs. McAlister was a native of Gainesville, Ga., but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was retired from the Textile Industry and was of the Holiness Faith.

She was preceded in death by her son, Mr. Benjamin "Jack" Gossit, Shemis. Survivors include a great-niece, Virginia Langham Lane, Thomson and many more great-nieces and great-nephews.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walter George Morgan
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Walter George Morgan, 44, of Thomson, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 20, 2004, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larron Pilgrim officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Morgan was a native of Lincolnton, a truck driver and of the Baptist Faith.

Mr. Morgan, was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Morgan and Tomie Kathleen Dill Morgan and a brother, Elijah Morgan.

He is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Rogers of Thomson; stepson, Brian Thaxton of Norwood; sisters, Nancy Freeland of Washington and Linda Bentley of Lincolnton; a brother, John Morgan of Windsor; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Pilgrim, Danny Pilgrim, Ty Sheppard, David Russell, David Thigpen and Clyde Quarles.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barbara Craford Sallywhite
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Barbara Craford Sallywhite, of Crawford Avenue, Thomson, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, 2004, at 2 p.m., at Paynes Baptist Church, Mesena, Ga., with the Rev. Lester Wood, officiating, with the interment in the Society cemetery in Mesena.

Crawford-Pinkston-Roberts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wesley Sallywhite
MARIETTA, Ga. --Funeral services for Mr. Wesley Sallywhite, 46, Marietta, Ga. were held on Friday, March 19, 2004, at 3 p.m. at the New Hope Christian Church, Thomson, Rev. Gloria Bennett, officiating, eulogist. Interment was in Society cemetery in Mesena.
Survivors are father, Mr. John Willie Sallywhite, Thomson; one son, Derrick Jones, Mesena; three daughters, Jennifer Jones, Augusta, Felecia Jones and Tiffany Sallywhite of Mesena; seven brothers, John Nook Sallywhite, Bobbie Lee Sallywhite, Ronnie Lee Sallywhite, Tommy Sallywhite and James Sallywhite all of Thomson, Benjamin Sallywhite and Willie Joe Sallywhite both of Marietta; three sisters, Clora Kendrick and Lillie Sallywhite both of Thomson, Brenda Daniel of Marietta; a grandson; aunt; nieces; nephews, cousins and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

DEARING, Ga.- Entered into rest March 13, 2004, Mr. Paul D. Shultz, 54, of Tudor Road, husband of Felise Francisco Shultz.
Graveside services were held 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 16, 2004, in the Bellevue Memorial Gardens near Grovetown, with the Rev. Wallace Banks, officiating with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2623 Washington Road, Augusta, Ga., 30904.

Mrs. Teresa Gwen Thurman Usry
Pharmacy Technician
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Teresa Gwen Thurman Usry, 45 of 1531 Happy Valley Rd., Thomson, entered into rest March 16, 2004 at Medical College of Georgia.
She was the beloved wife of Garry Usry. Survivors include her husband: Garry Usry, Thomson; daughter, Tiffany Usry, Thomson; father, Bobby Thurman, Swainsboro; mother, Joyce Bedgood Thurman, Thomson; brother, Ricky Thurman, Swainsboro; sister: Lisa Braswell, Griffin.

Mrs. Usry was born in Emanuel County but had lived in Thomson for the past 22 years. She was a Pharmacy Technician with Moye Pharmacy. Mrs. Usry was also a 1977 graduate of Swainsboro High School and a member of the Wrens Church of God.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Terry Addis and Ron Lawson officiating. Interment was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were nephews. Honorary pallbearers were Moye Pharmacy and Long-Term Care employees.

Memorials may be made to the Wrens Church of God, 102 Phillips St., Wrens, Ga. 30833.

Mr. Joe Wood
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Joe Wood, age 70, of Railroad Street, Thomson, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, in the Thomson Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held graveside 2 p.m., Monday, March 15, 2004, at Jackson Memorial cemetery in Jackson with Rev. Hubert Story Jr. officiating.

Mr. Wood was a native of Ellington, S.C., and a retired gardener and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Huff and is survived by one sister, Mae Young of Thomson; three brothers, Job Wood of Thomson, Bob Wood of Duluth, Ga. and Frank Wood of Norcross, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Emmett "Andy" Andrews
EVANS, Ga.- Mr. Emmett "Andy" Andrews, 73, husband of Carolyn Thomas Andrews, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 13, 2004.
Full Military Services were held at the Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church of Evans, Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kurt Bozeman, Rev. Pierce Norman and Rev. James Castello officiating.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn of 44 years; daughter, Diana and Jon Sjoberg of Las Vegas, Nev.; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Andrews and wife Cindy of Evans, Ga., son, Mark Andrews of Harlem; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Mitchell Mays of Harlem. Mr. Andrews is also survived by four brothers, Jimmy Ray Andrews of Dearing, Larry Andrews of San Antonio, Tex., Tony Andrews of Indiana and Mike Andrews of Bainbridge\; one sister, Janice Baker of Haines City, Fla.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Andrews was a member of the Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church for many years. He lived in the Augusta area for more than 35 years. He loved fishing and had fished Clarks Hill Lake from its very beginning. He was a member of BASS Masters. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, retiring after 22 1/2 years. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Later, he retired from Kroger's where he was the market manager.

Rev. Ralph E. Bales
Minister
MITCHELL, Ga.- Rev. Ralph E. Bales, 87, loving husband of the late Mrs. Glenice Cooper Bales, entered into rest March 13, 2004, at Washington County Regional Medical Center, Sandersville.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Mitchell Full Gospel Church, Mitchell, with the Rev. Chris Williford, Rev. Jacky Downs and Rev. Eddie Renew officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Rev. Bales was a native of Washington County, but lived in Glascock County most of his life. Rev. Bales was founder and Sr. Pastor of Mitchell Full Gospel Church for 29 years. He was a farmer, carpenter, brick mason and a school bus driver. Rev. Bales loved his congregation at his church very much.

Rev. Bales was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Rev. Bales is survived by one son, Gary Bales; two daughter, Cristal Hunnicutt and Kay Downs, all of Mitchell; two brothers, Roger Bales of Gibson and Bill Bales of Thomson; two sisters, Ethel Wood of Thomson and Louise McNeal of Gibson; six grandchildren, Brian Bales, Craig Hunnicutt, Melanie Williford, Chad Downs, Kyle Downs and Amber Downs; six great- grandchildren, Hayleigh Batchelor, Katelyn Hunnicutt, Brandon Usry, Carson Downs, Taylor Bales and the late Kelsey Hunnicutt.

Pallbearers were Ron Powell, Sam Griswold, Kent Daniel, Robert Landrum, Gene Johnson and James Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.

Sheppard Funeral Home, Gibson, was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Jean H. Johnson
LEXINGTON, S.C.- Ms. Jean Marie Hooper Johnson, 36, of the 400 block of South Church St., passed away March 8, 2004.
Born in Warwick, R.I., she was the daughter of Albert Henry Hooper Jr. and wife Cheryl of Chesapeake and mother, Deborah J. Brawn and husband Charles of Wiscasset, Maine.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Albert H. Hooper Sr. and Elizabeth A. Hopper.

She was a loving and devoted mother to her children. Jean was a very active and outgoing person, she loved flowers, traveling and antiques.

Besides her parents, Jean is survived by three children, Christopher Johnson Jr., Nathalle Johnson and Joseph Johnson of Lexington, S.C; her children's father, Christopher Johnson Sr. of Georgia; one brother, Albert H. Hooper III and wife Jennifer of Keller, Texas; as well as numerous family and friends from Rhode Island and Maine.

Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, Chesapeake, Va., by the Rev. Jerry Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, Virginia Chapter, 2101 Executive Drive, Box 21 Hampton, Va. 23666-2404.

Mr. C. Daniel Kimbrel
AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mr. C. Daniel Kimbrel, age 54, died March 9, 2004 in Augusta.
Danny, as he was known to his friends, was a native of Thomson. He was the son of the late M. Monroe Kimbrel and Nita Matlock Kimbrel of Thomson. Mr. Kimbrel grew up in Thomson, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, was educated in the public schools of Thomson and graduated from Wofford College and from the Rutgers School of Banking.

Following his graduation from college and military service in the United States Army, he entered the banking business. He held various management positions with Sarasota Bank & Trust Company, was president of American Bank of Sarasota, and became the youngest president of Ellis Banking Corporation, Sarasota, and later became executive vice president of NCNB for southwest Florida.

He left Florida in 1985 to return to Georgia, where he assumed the presidency of Thomson Oak Flooring Company, a leading manufacturer of oak flooring products, which he headed at the time of his death.

Mr. Kimbrel was a former chairman of American Savings & Loan Association of Miami, was a director of Rockdale Industries, Stone Mountain, of Manatee Fruit Company, Bradenton, Fla. He was also a director of the Georgia Forestry Association, the Georgia Carolina Council Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Young Presidents Organization, a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Thomson, and a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary. He was a past chairman of the board of First Union National Bank of Augusta, and past president of the National Oak Flooring Manufacturers Association, of the Augusta Golf Association, and of Sacred Heart Cultural Center. He was an avid outdoorsman, a good friend to many, a devoted father.

Mr. Kimbrel is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary Lane Preston Kimbrel, and two sons, Preston Monroe Kimbrel and Charles Daniel Kimbrel, Jr., all of Augusta, plus a sister, Jenny Wood Kimbrel Bunn of Winston-Salem, N.C., and two nieces, Kimbrel Bunn Morris of Charlotte, N.C., and Jane Stephens Bunn of Durham, N.C.

Graveside services were held at Westover Memorial Park, Augusta, on Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 2 p.m. with The Rev. P. James Costigan officiating.

Memorial gifts, if desired are suggested to the Community Foundation of the CSRA, P.O. Box 31358, Augusta, Ga., 30903, or to the University Health Care Foundation, Jernigan Cancer Center, 2100 Central Avenue, Suite D-1, Augusta, Ga., 30904.

Pallbearers were John J. Priester, G. John Carey, Whiting H. Preston, James A. Bunn, III, Thomas M. Blanchard, Jr., Clayton P. Boardman, III, Henry B. Garrett, III, Wyckliffe A. Knox, Jr., Robert A. Pattillo, John M. McCarty, and J. Douglas Engler. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew S. Cranford, Daniel A. Duggan, William H. Moretz, Jr., Richard B. Sasnett, Jr., Michael Shlaer, the staff of Thomson Oak Flooring Company, the members of the Augusta Golf Association, and the members of Mr. Kimbrel's business forum.
