AUGUSTA, Ga.- SFC. (Ret.) Mr. Robert Edgar Pinkston, Sr., 77, husband of Mrs. Helen Pinkston of Augusta, entered into rest on Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the residence.
Graveside funeral services were held on Saturday, May 22, 2004, in Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors at 1 p.m. with Pastor Joel Hawkins and Rev. Tony Henderson officiating.

Mr. Pinkston was predeceased by his sister Camille Morris and brother James Hinton Pinkston.

Other survivors include his son, Robert E. Pinkston, Jr., of Huntersville, N.C.; daughter, Nancy P. Szocinski (Robert) of Evans; sisters, Mattie Mae Gay, Gladys Bedell, and Vera Henderson all of Augusta; grandchildren, Steven D. Scott, II (Sarah) and Jordan K. Pinkston; great-grandchild Anna Harper Scott and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pinkston was born in McDuffie County to the late James Arlington and Susie Mae Morris Pinkston. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWI I with 22 years of service. He was a former member of Curtis Baptist Church and Richmond Hill Road Church of Christ.

Mr. Pinkston had retired from Property Control at Gracewood State School and Hospital.

Hatcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jack M. Wetzel
THOMSON, GA - Mr. Jack M. Wetzel, 69, of Thomson, entered into rest Sunday, May 23, 2004 at his residence. He went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Wetzel was born in Glendale, W.V., but grew up in Cameron, W.V. He was the beloved son of the late Presley and Stella Wetzel. He served six years in the U. S. Army, worked with civil service from 1966-1988 and retired as a Training Supervisor with the TAC Wire Branch at Fort Gordon. Mr. Wetzel was also a member of Second Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ron Drawdy and Rev. Bobby Farmer officiating.

Pallbearers were Lemuel Farley, Ray Lampp, Joe Winstead, Billy Graham, Ronnie Mason and Troy Adams. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Second Baptist Church.

Interment followed in the Westview Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Diane Wetzel; two sons, James M. (Matt) Garthright and James E. (Jimmy) Garthright and his fiancee, Patricia DCarlo, all of Thomson, Ga.; his sister and brother-in-law, Jyll and Gordon Park of Ashtabula, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30904.

Mr. Michael Hampton
DEARING, Ga.- The funeral for Mr. Michael Hampton, 36, of Larkin Rd., Dearing was held on Saturday, May 15, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Springfield Baptist Church, Thomson, Rev. Casey Jones, officiating. Interment was in Society cemetery in Mesena.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Hampton; children, Michelle Hampton and Michael Hampton, Jr., all of Dearing; parents, Lillie Mae Hampton and Willie Jones of Harlem; three sisters, Betty Calhoun, Judy Dorsey and Mary Allen; five brothers, James Hampton, Ricky Hampton, Stanley Jones, Willie Jones and Doug Jones, all of Harlem; other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System, Thomson, Ga. was in charge.

Mr. Travis D. Kendrick
Mr. Travis Dwight Kendrick, 32, of 3375 Washington Road, Thomson, GA, entered into rest May 17, 2004, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved son of Walter and Kay Kendrick.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Widener officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery.

Other survivors include his two brothers, Barry (Lynn) Kendrick of Meansville, Ga., and Larry (Margie) Kendrick of Williamson, Ga.; three sisters, Angela (Dwayne) Sewell of Thomson, Ga., Susan (Greg) Cash of Winder, Ga., and Christa Kendrick of Loganville, Ga.; paternal grandfather, Walter David Kendrick of Meansville, Ga.; a number of nieces and nephews; and a lifetime best friend and fraternity brother, Sherwood Clements of Thomson.

Mr. Kendrick was a lifelong resident of Thomson and he was employed at B & A Mobile Homes. He was a 1990 graduate of Thomson High School, a graduate of University of Georgia with a major in Finance and a member of the Alpha Gamma Roe Fraternity.

Mrs. Martha Moss
DECATUR, Ga.- The funeral for Mrs. Martha Moss, age 97, of Lamesa Lane, Decatur, Ga., was held on Saturday, May 15, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Cadley, Ga., with Rev. Dave Lowe, officiating. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.
Survivors are two daughters, Ida M. Belton of Atlanta and Gussie Annie Hill of Decatur, Ga.; one son, Sam T. Latimore of Thomson; two sisters, Annie Hamilton, Thomson and Lillie Bell Cowins of Decatur; 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System, 536 M.L. King, Jr. Street, Thomson, Ga. was in charge.

Mr. Layton (Les) Spaulding
APPLING, Ga.- Mr. Layton (Les) Spaulding, age 81, beloved husband of June Spaulding died Friday afternoon, May 14, 2004, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 17, 2004, graveside at Westview cemetery with Rev. Joe Hester officiating.
Mr. Spaulding was a native of Dexter, Maine, but had spent the past 35 years in Thomson and Appling. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Spaulding graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and retired after many years of service from Uniroyal.

He was a member of Damascus Baptist Church in Leah, and for many years was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church where he was active in the Mens Bible Study Sunday School Class.

Mr. Spaulding is survived by his wife, June Norris Spaulding of Appling; son, Arthur Pepperman of Cinter Harbor, N.H.; daughter, Carla Kernan of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Melissa Norris and grandson, Clifton Norris of Thomson and numerous other relatives also survive.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the building funds of either Damascus Baptist Church, 6375 Ridge Road, Appling, GA 30802 or to the Thomson First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1205 Thomson, GA 30824.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. W.A. Young Jr.
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. W.A. Young Jr., 78, beloved husband of Mrs. Catherine P. Young, died Friday, May 14, 2004, in the Warrenton Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 16, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Brian Davis officiating.

Mr. Young was a native of Warren County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a retired accountant from Knox Homes. He was a Navy Veteran during the WWII era. He was a graduate of Thomson High School, where he played football and was in the band. He attended the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Catherine P. Young, Thomson; his son, David Young, Thomson; two brothers, Jack Young, Thomson and Marion Young, Decatur; four grandchildren and a great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Marcus Young, Michael Young, Allen Young, Stewart Young, Keith Young, and Jim Wilkerson.

Beggs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Farris 'Willie' R. Barker

THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Farris 'Willie' R. Barker, 89, of Thomson, entered into rest May 3, 2004, at the Waynesboro Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Jessie Barker and the late Georgia Belle Timmerman Barker.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Corrie Lee Phillips of Augusta; his two daughters, LaVerne (Julian A.) Speering of Evans and Annette Albea of Augusta; sister, Maybelle Wise of Graniteville, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Jerry Speering, Frank Speering, Russell Speering, Debbie Stevens, Sheryl Champy, Joan Speering, Susan Brown, Sandra Hand, Karen Allen and Jennifer Cross and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Barker lived most of his life in Richmond County, but he had lived Thomson for over 35 years. He had worked at Georgia Iron Works and he was a Methodist. He was a caring person for his friend's neighbors.

Graveside services were held Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mark Canipe officiating.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Jerry Speering, Frank Speering, Russell Speering, James Hand Jr., Jason Allen and Rocky Cross.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joseph Thomas Dismuke
Retired Civil Service
HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Mr. Joseph Thomas Dismuke, 85, loving husband of Thelma "Ellen" McCoy Dismuke entered into rest on Sunday, May 9, 2004 at University Hospital.
Others surviving are his sons, David Dismuke of Thomson and Michael Dismuke of Hephzibah; daughters, Karen McGowan and Donna Black both of Hephzibah; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home Tuesday May 11, 2004 with Chaplain Ken Gross officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Della Marion Styck McNair
THOMSON, Ga.- The funeral for Mrs. Della Marion Styck McNair, age 67, of Thomson, was held on Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Aldred C.M.E. Church in Warren County, with the Rev. Haywood Dock officiating. Interment was in the Churchyard Cemetery.
Mrs. McNair was a native of Cook County, Chicago, Ill.

Survivors are two sons, Kevin J. McNair (Gloria) of Dearing, and Robert McNair, Jr. (Kristein) of Arlington, Tex.; three daughters, Teresa L. Alcantar (Salvador) of Chicago, Ill., Cynthia McNair of Thomson and Renee McNair Sinkfield (Lewis) of Warrenton; one step-daughter, Loretta McNair of Thomson; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a devoted friend, Mr. Gene Hill of Thomson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Royce B. Stephens, Sr.
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Royce B. Stephens, Sr., 80, entered into rest May 4, 2004.
He was the husband of the late Edna Sue Smith Stephens and father of the late Emory Calvin Stephens.

He was a native of Athens, Ga., but had made his home in Thomson for many years. A retired foreman at Ga. Vitrified Brick and Clay Co., a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a veteran of U.S. Army World War II.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Washington Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Reginald Blakewood officiating. Interment was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson.

Survivors include four sons, Royce B. and Cindy Stephens, Thomasville, Roger Darrell Stephens, Terry Stephens, Anthony Lee Stephens, Thomson; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda Sue Jones, Mesquite, Texas and Mrs. Sherrie Jean Bohler, Warrenton; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Frances Turner, Thomson, Ga.

Pallbearers were Jeff Bohler, Dan Bohler, Andy Stephens, Timothy Bohler, Jonathan Stephens, Chris Hagerman, Darrel Stephens and Kenny Wagaman.

John B. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John Henry "J. H." Thompson

WARRENTON, Ga.- Mr. John Henry "J. H." Thompson, 72, of Little Briar Creek Church Road, Warrenton, entered into rest May 4, 2004.
He was the beloved husband of Rebecca Kennedy Thompson. Other survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gary M. Thompson and Melinda Thompson; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie T. Dunham and John Dunham; brother, Alton Thompson; three grandchildren, Jason Dunham, Jonathan Dunham and Hannah Thompson, all of Warrenton.

Mr. Thompson was a lifelong resident of Warren County. He was the owner and operator of Thompson Brothers Dairy for 29 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and he was a member of Little Briar Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Little Briar Creek Baptist Church. with Rev. Randy Dunaway officiating.

Pallbearers were Gene Chalker, Ricky Cofer, Ralph Franks, Dave Gilmer, Robert Johnson and Lamar Massey. Interment was in the Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Little Briar Creek Baptist Church, c/o Julia Massey, 3580 Mt. Pleasant Rd. Thomson, Ga. 30824.
