JAMES LONG

James Clyde Long, 89, of Dutton, Ala., died April 24 in Scottsboro, Ala. He was preceded in death by parents Willie A. and Lillie M. Burnett Long; wife Anna Lucille Long; sister Jewell Gann; grandson Tim Frost; and brother Clarence Buddy Long. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Linda Long, Madison, Ala., Robert and Gaynell Long, Henagar, Ala., Raymond and Nelda Long, Dutton, Ala.; daughters and son-in-law Evelyn and Jimmy Frost, Henagar, Ala., Gail Long, Dutton, Ala.; sister Louise Roberts, Woodville, Ala.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held April 27 in Kerby Chapel with the Revs. Scott Crye and David Hariston officiating. Interment was in Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home, LLC, Henagar, Ala.

ESTHER SHRADER

Esther J. Shrader, 65, of Trenton died Dec. 31. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by husband Raymond Shrader.

She is survived by daughter Mechelle Rollins; sons Shawn and Scott Shrader, all of Trenton; sisters Linda Jeffery, Trenton, Imogene Hurst, Kissie Mills, Mo., and Nancy Carmedy of Hendersonville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Jan. 3 in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Blis Cribb officiating.

Interment was in Trenton Baptist Cemetery.

Arrangements by Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton.

HENRY "LARRY" THURMOND

Henry Lowery "Larry" Thurmond, 64, of Ider died Dec. 27 in Resaca.

Survivors include son J.R. Thurmond of Tunnel Hill; brothers and sisters-in-law J.C. and Mary Thurmond of Chattanooga, Bobby and Shirley Thurmond of Flat Rock, Ala., sisters Thelma Smith of Shreveport, La., Dixie Nichols of Henagar; one grandchild.

Funeral services were held Dec. 29 in the Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bud Laney officiating.

Interment was in the Liberty cemetery at Pisgah.

Arrangements were by Kerby funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.

GAYNELL WHITE

Gaynell "Gail" White, 56 of LaFayette died Dec. 26 at Memorial Hospital. White was an associate of the Lookout Community Services for many years.

Survivors include brothers Wendell White of Rossville, Lynn White of Rainsville; sisters Ovaline Davis of Ider, Marion Wilson of Flat Rock and Nola "Johnnie" Waldorp of Rossville.

Funeral services were held Dec. 29 at Corner Stone Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tim White officiating.

Interment was in Fuller Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Corner Stone Funeral Chapel in Ider, Ala.

CARRIE WILLIAMS

Carrie Elizabeth Inman McBryar Williams, 73, of Higdon, Ala died Dec. 18. Williams attended Davenport Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband J.B. McBryar; daughters Theresa and Linda, brother John D. Inman, and sister Millie Davis.

Survivors include husband Paul Williams of Slygo, daughters Charlotte Michaels of Alto, Tenn., Renee Gant of Higdon, Ala., Jennifer Phillips of Bryant, Ala.; son Stanley McBryar of Haines City, Fla., sisters Shirley Forshee of Higdon, Ala. Betty Mashburn of Tiftonia,, Tenn., and Patricia Tinker of Ider, Ala., brothers Bill Inman of Flat Rock, Ala., Arthur Inman of Tiftonia, Tenn., 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Dec. 30 at Higdon Free Holiness Church with brother Ray Davis, brother Darrell Whitley and brother J.B. Pritchett officiating.

Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Bryant, Ala.

Arrangements were by Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton.

GEORGE SCOTT

Rev. George Hughes Scott, 70, of Bryant, Ala., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a Baptist minister for 38 years and was also a member of the Ider, Ala. Masonic Lodge, and veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Gladys Scott; infant son, George Everette Scott; two brothers, Manuel and Wesley Scott. Survivors include: wife, Flora Lorene Scott; three daughters, Debra McCarty, Phyllis French, Alisha Price, all of Bryant, Ala; one son, Michael Scott, Sr., Bryant, Ala.; six sisters, Jane and Mary Smith, Alpha Avans, Zella Morris, all of Trenton, Leola Smith, Jasper, Tenn., and Leatha Atchley, Bryant, Ala.; three brothers, Connor and Jim Scott, both of Trenton, and Delbert Scott, Jasper, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 8, in Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Thompson and the Rev. Jimmy Hixson and the Rev. Brent Smith officiating. Interment was in Ebenezer cemetery in Bryant, Ala. Arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home in Trenton.

PATRICIA SMITH

Mrs. Patricia K. "Eller" Smith, 43, of Pisgah, Ala. died Friday, April 6, 2001, in Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala. She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her father, James William Eller, Sr. Survivors include: husband, Glen P. Smith, Fyffe, Ala.; mother, Mrs. Rena Eller, Pisgah, Ala.; two brothers, Allen Eller, Chattanooga, Tenn., Bill Eller, Flat Rock, Ala.; two sisters, Mary Woods, Henagar, Ala., Marilyn Marlowe, Rising Fawn. Graveside services were held Sunday, April 8, in the White Hall cemetery in Fort Payne, Ala. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.

MARY KIRK

Mary Clara McMahan Kirk, 86, of Rising Fawn died Monday, May 14, 2001. She was retired from Synascan Electronics as lead operator in the wiring department. She was a member of the Rising Fawn United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of Rising Fawn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Asa and Cecil McMahan. Survivors include: husband, Charlie Kirk, Rising Fawn; two daughters, Rosemary Moses, Chattanooga, Suzanne Atchley, Rising Fawn; two sons, David Kirk, Clearmont, Fla., Derrell Kirk, Fort Oglethorpe; two sisters, Ruth Boren, Chattanooga, Henrietta West, Chickamauga; two brothers, Sonny McMahan, Hixson, Tenn., Charles McMahan, Rising Fawn; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 17, in Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Doyal and Dwayne Kirk officiating. Interment was in Hanna cemetery in Rising Fawn. Arrangements were by Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton.

DOYLE MOORE

Doyle S. Moore, 72, of Henagar, Ala., died Monday, June 4, 2001, at his residence in Henagar, Ala. He was born in Jackson County, Ala., and a was member of the Happy Home Baptist Church. He was a veteran having served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force also retiring from Cherokee Hosiery Mill in Fort Payne. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, Manis H. and Nancy E. Davis Moore.; one son, Guy Wade Moore and a brother, Harold Loyd Moore. Survivors include: wife, Margaret Odom Moore, Henagar, Ala.; five sons, Gregory W. Moore, Ocala, Fla., Larry W. Odom, Sylvania, Ala., Bobby R. Odom, Knoxville, Tenn., Gary J. Odom, Fort Payne, Ala., James V. Odom, Henagar, Ala.; two daughters, Mittie Hamrick, Mt. Park, and Shelia Shewbert, Statham; one brother, Lonnie Moore, Henagar, Ala.; two sisters, Lonnie Moore, Henagar, Ala., Annie Laura Roach, Atlanta; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. in Kerby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Fuller cemetery in Ider, Ala. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.

DORIS WEATHERS

Doris Geraldine Weathers, 73, of Rising Fawn died Tuesday, May 29, 2001. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Mrs. Weathers was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Weathers. Survivors include: seven daughters, Sarah Leverett, Ginger Scruggs and Barbara Wallin, all of Rising Fawn, Lillian Ginn, Henagar, Ala., Faye Leverett, Trenton, Thresa Beck, Dawsonville, Doris Jean Byrd, Atlanta; five sons, Tony, Jessie, and Joe Weathers, all of Trenton, Bobby and Marion Weathers, both of Rising Fawn; 32 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, June 1, in Moore Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Townson officiating. Interment was in Sarah's Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home in Trenton.

NANCY JOHNSTON

Nancy E. Johnston, 76, of Chattanooga died Sunday, August 26, 2001 at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area. Johnston was preceded in death by her daughter, Ellen Casteel. Survivors include: husband, Charlie W. Johnston; four daughters, Louise McIntire, Panama City Beach, Fla., Mattie Buffington, Trenton, Teresa Gifford and Donna Davis, both of Chattanooga; two sons, Carl Johnston, Bakewell, Tenn., Charles "Bo" Johnston, Chattanooga; two sisters, Bonnie Wooten, Dallas, and Doris Fraizer, Chatsworth; one brother, Pete Layman, Hamilton, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in a private burial in the U.S. National Cemetery. Arrangements were by South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home in Rossville.

EVIE MAYNOR

Evie Beatrice Maynor, 99, of Pisgah, Ala., died Aug. 20, 2001. She was born in Jackson County, Ala., and was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church. Maynor was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Oscar Maynor. Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Garvis Miles, Pisgah, Ala., Velda "Polly" and Jack Hicks, Pisgah, Ala., Bobbie and Howard Waddell, Tuscumbia, Ala.; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Skelton, Rossville; two brothers, Harold Adams, Rossville, Floyd Adams, Kingston, Tenn. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 22, in Kerby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Pleasant View cemetery in Dutton, Ala. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.

ELSIE REYNOLDS

Elsie DeVena Reynolds, 81, a resident of Trenton for 55 years, died Saturday, in a local hospital. She was a housewife and was a Baptist. Reynolds was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Reynolds; two sons, Joe and Jean Gregory; one sister, Selma Ann Curry. Survivors include: two daughters, and sons-in-law, Lillian and Don Leach, Helan and Ralph Geddie, all of Trenton; one son, Robert Reynolds, Trenton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held Monday at the Town Creek cemetery in Rainsville, Ala., with the Rev. Alan Flowers officiating. Arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home in Trenton.

CORA SMOTHERS

Cora Lee Smothers, 78, of Henagar, Ala., died Saturday in BMC/DeKalb Medical Center in Fort Payne, Ala. She was a life-long resident of DeKalb County, Ala., and was a member of Lea's Chapel Bapist Church in Henagar, Ala. Smother was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lera Horton Williams; husband, W.V. Smothers, Sr.; and brother, Jack Williams. Survivors include: three sons, W.V. Smothers, Jr., Henagar, Ala., Orren Smothers, Fort Payne, Ala., Winford Peavy Smothers, Plain City, Ohio; one daughter, Linda Cecil, Sevierville, Tenn.; one sister, Nell Smothers, Henagar, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Henline and the Rev. Dan Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment was in Liberty cemetery in Henagar, Ala. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.

Elvin Jern Brown, 78, of Henagar, Ala., died Friday at his residence. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, J.E. and Izora Elliott Brown. Survivors include: wife, Essie Bell "Clines" Brown, Henagar, Ala.; four sons, Harold Brown, Ider, Ala., Paulette and Buddy Brown, both of Pisgah, Ala., Johnny Brown, Henagar, Ala.; three daughters, Reba Jo Hawkins, Browntown, Ala., Shirley Faye Prater, Rainsville, Ala., Lakeith Lambert, Henagar, Ala.; one brother, Eulios Brown, Scottsboro, Ala.; sister, Christine Laird, Browntown, Ala.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday in Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Jeffery officiating. Interment was in Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Pisgah, Ala. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.
