Viola Christian
Mrs. Viola Christian of Newborn, died May 23, 2009, at the age of 93. She was employed by Callaway Mills in Milstead, and Bibb Mfg. Co., in Porterdale. Mrs. Christian enjoyed sewing, quilting, and was an excellent cook. She loved her family and they dearly loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Bryant Christian; parents; and her 12 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Mary Christian of Covington, Roy and Amanda Christian of Newborn, Donald Christian of Covington; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Christian will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2009, 11 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 3134 Floyd St., with Rev. Lawrence Lockett officiating, and interment following in Prospect Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Tuesdsay, May 26, from 6-9 PM.
Hilda Ann Moon McGiboney
Hilda Ann Moon McGiboney, of Oxford, died at her home, May 16, 2009, at the age of 64. Daughter of the late Huey and Vera Forester Moon, she was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Walton County, loved reading and studying her Bible, and even won an award from Bible study. She enjoyed gardening, doing income taxes, and spending time at the ocean. Mrs. McGiboney was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. On May 25 of this year, Mr. and Mrs. McGiboney would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.
Survivors include her husband, Robert McGiboney of Oxford; daughter, Christina McGiboney Hunt of Oxford; grandchildren, Crystal Lynn and Justin Scott Campbell, Amy Yvette Hunt, Elizabeth Ann Hunt; great-grandchildren, Parker Ollen Peale, Ariel Summer Campbell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shelby and Frank East of Tignall, Linda and James Stewart of Oxford; sisters-in-law, Florence Moon of Covington, Geneva Kidd of Conyers.
Funeral services for Mrs. McGiboney will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2:00 PM, at Sharon Baptist Church, with Pastor Glenn Stephens officiating and interment following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215, Access Rd, Monday, May 18, from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM.
Max Spruill
Max Spruill of Oxford, died May 27, 2009, at the age of 74. Mr. Spruill enjoyed gardening, Nascar racing, and working, but above all he loved his family. Mr. Spruill was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Ada Lee Cash Spruill.
Survivors include his daughter, Sylvia Evans; sons, Stan Spruill, Steven Spruill; granddaughter, Emily Spruill; sisters, Sarah Johnston, Joyce Wilson; several nieces and nephews.

Julian (Deal) Stanton
Julian (Deal) Stanton, of Covington, died May 2, 2009, at Emory Crawford Long Hospital, at the age of 84. Son of the late Edward and Mary Few Stanton, he served 20 years in the U. S. Navy, and after retiring in 1962, made his home in Covington. Mr. Stanton enjoyed going to the poolroom and socializing with his friends.
Survivors include his brother, Wayne Stanton of San Luis Obispo, CA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; special friend and companion, Julia Mitchell of Covington.
Funeral services for Mr. Stanton will be held Friday, May 8, 2:00 PM, at the Floyd Street chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, with Rev. Niranjan Noronha officiating and interment following in Sewell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 7, from 6-8 PM.
Donald Grindle
Donald Grindle, of Covington, died May 14, 2009, at Westbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 72. Son of the late Will and Ollie Bell Reese Grindle, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and traveling to the mountains. Mr. Grindle was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Katherine Mann Grindle.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Brenda and Merle Goss of Covington, Donna Ridgeway of Elberton; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Susan Grindle of Jacksonville, FL, Mark and Cheryl Grindle of Senoia; grandchildren, Chris Miller, Anthony Miller, Kelly Grindle, Ryan Grindle, Jennifer Grindle; one sister; two brothers; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; best friend, James Hill of Covington.

James W. Wilson
James W. Wilson of Covington, died May 5, 2009, at the age of 81. Mr. Wilson was an Army Veteran, and served during the Korean Conflict as corporal from January 1951-October 1952. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and Nascar racing. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing softball in the Church League. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Lee and Mamie Shadix Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Wilson; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Gary Knight of Conyers, Karen Lewis of Covington, Audrey and Ronnie Lewis of Carlton, GA, Michele and Michael Carnes of Covington; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Brown of Conyers; brothers and sister-in-law, Perry and Shirley Wilson of Conyers, Guy Wilson of Stockbridge.

Ollie B. Boatner, 66, of Higdon, Ala., passed away July 27. He was retired from Wheland Foundry and was a member of Ider Holiness Church. Robert Daniel Caloni-Hart, 21, of Bryant, Ala., passed away July 21 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. As a young boy, he attended Bryant Church of God and loved basketball, football and fishing. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Mary E. Caloni. Survivors include his parents Todd and Pamela Hart, and Brian and Wendy Caloni; sister Candice Caloni; brothers Shelbe and Tyson Hart; grandparents Virginia and Daniel Brandon, Phyllis Hart, and Kenneth and Barbara Seale; great-grandmother Hazel Davis; girlfriend Mary Cornett; cousins, aunts and uncles. MARIE CROWNOVER
Marie Tinker Crownover, 80, went to be with her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on July 23. She was an active member of Waterville Baptist Church, Cleveland, Tenn. She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga but had moved to Cleveland in her later years and had recently returned to Chattanooga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Collins Crownover, Sr.; an infant son, Ronald Terry Crownover; sister, Victoria Cooper. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jim Meletiou, Knoxville, Tenn.; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Alicia Crownover, Clifford and Patti Crownover and Benjamin and Marilyn Crownover, all of Chattanooga; a foster son, Richard Depue; three brothers, Archie Tinker, Ooltewah, Tenn., Estel Tinker, Trenton and Mitchel Tinker, Tiftonia; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. ELNA GRANT
Elna H. Grant, 87, of Trenton, passed away July 28 at her home. She was a longtime resident of Sand Mountain, a retired nurse having served during World War II and several years at Sandmont Nursing Home, and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Grant; brother, James Hawkins and sister, Anne Palmer. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Janice Grant, Higdon, Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Phillip Keel, Trenton; brother, Albert Hawkins, Avon Park, Fla.; sisters, Edna Floyd and Alice Holland, both of Fort Oglethorpe, Betty Couch, Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jason Grant, Chris Grant and Georja Howard; great-grandchildren, Landon Grant, Jade Howard and Haven Howard; several nieces and nephews. PHILLIP HARRIS
Phillip Harris, 86, of Trenton, passed away July 27. He was a member of the St. Elmo Church of Christ and was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy Sea-Bees. He was in the grocery business in Dade County for many years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maude B. Harris. Survivors include his wife, Freddie Wheeler Harris, Trenton; daughter and son-in-law, Martha Gentry and Keith Shahan, Hixon, Tenn.; son, Fred Harris, Stewart, Fla.; step-daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bobby McBryar, Trenton; step-son, Mark Dewayne Harris, Trenton; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. John Henson Morgan, Jr., 76, of Sylacauga, Ala., passed away July 25. He was formally of Sand Mountain, a loving brother and was of the Church of Christ faith. He was preceded in death by his parents John Morgan, Sr. and Minnie Morgan Crabtree; brother, George Morgan and an infant brother. Survivors include his sisters, Annie Barber, Sylacauga, Ala., Daisy Mae Cox, Rossville and Bernice Moore, Branson, Mo.; brother, Billy Joe Crabtree, Bryant, Ala.; several nieces and nephews. DAVID WILSON
David P. Wilson, 43, of Lookout Mountain passed away July 28 at a local hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Lookout Mountain and had worked at Walter A. Wood Supply in Rossville for the past 14 years and recently started working in the sales department. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Wilson. Survivors include his fiancé, Kristie Derryberry; mother, Louise Wilson; brother, Jonathan Wilson; sisters, Lisa Abbott and Angela Pryor, all of Lookout Mountain; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Anita Baker
Anita Baker, of Covington, died May 7, 2009, at Social Circle Nursing and Rehab Center, at the age of 70. She was born in Wheaton, IL, to the late John Dale and Alice Fletcher Schoonover. Preceded in death by her husband, George Wilburn Baker, they would have been married
for 52 years. She was a military wife and enjoyed sewing, reading and movies.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Andrea Richardson of Sandston, VA, Angela and John Clingerman of Covington, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Bob and Pat Baker of Newnan, GA, Billy Baker of Salisbury, NC; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Sam Zook of Urbana, OH; sisters-in-law, Juanita Baker of Franklin, NC, Maria Schoonover of Marion, OH; brother-in-law and wife, Mac and Sheila Baker of Salisbury, NC; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Paul W. Jordan
Mr. Paul W. Jordan of Oxford, died May 23, 2009, at the age of 76. Son of the late Leonard Wayne and Stella Harless Jordan, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, and watching Nascar racing.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Karen Jordan; daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Rocky Smith, Donna and James Clark, Angela and Charles Moon, all of Monroe; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Pam Jordan of Covington, Daniel and Kandace Jordan of Loganville; grandchildren, Cody Clark, Crystal Clark, Cheyenne Smith, and Lee Jordan.

Judy Ann (Freeman) Bennett
Judy Ann (Freeman) Bennett, of Covington, died May 24, 2009, at the age of 61. Daughter of the late John Robert Freeman and Thelma Lenora Johnson Freeman, she attended Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed cross-stitching, painting ceramics and pottery, camping, fishing, and going to the mountains. Mrs. Bennett was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Trever Bennett.

Robert H. Hawkins
Robert H. Hawkins, of Covington, died May 14, 2009, at Abbey Hospice, at the age of 87. Son of the late Jessie Clarence and Mamie Stapp Hawkins, he was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Mr. Hawkins enjoyed fishing, traveling to Florida and to the mountains, vegetable gardening, and working on cars. He was preceded in death by his sister and brothers, Lena Mae Hawkins Vining, Clarence (Jack) Hawkins, and Charley (Billy) Hawkins.
Survivors include his wife, Allie B. Hawkins of Covington; brothers and sister-in-law, Johnny Hawkins of Carrollton, Alvin and Martha Hawkins of Covington; two special nieces, Faye B. Ray, Shirley (Strange) Cooper; several nieces, nephews and friends.
