Betty Sue Thomason Deakins, 79, of Newnan died Saturday, September 11, 2010. She was born April 1, 1931 in Whitfield County, GA to the late Robert Conn Thomason & Dexter Mae Grant Thomason. Mrs. Deakins was a Christian and a loving wife to her husband, Rev. Bill Deakins. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Newnan. For over 50 years, she worked with two & three year olds in the many churches where her husband was a pastor. The children affectionately called her “Miss Sue.” Spring was her favorite season because she had a love of flowers and enjoyed tending to them in her yard. The funeral is Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. John Riley & Rev. Searcy Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The visitation is Monday evening between 6:00 – 8:00 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St, Newnan, GA. Edna Johnson Cannon On Sunday, September 12, 2010 Edna Cannon of Panama City Beach Florida passed away peacefully. Edna, formerly from Newnan Georgia was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Glenn E. Cannon Sr. Edna retired from International Playtex after 30 year of service and moved with Glenn to Panama City Beach. Edna was affectionately known by many and she was a true Southern Lady. She was well known and loved for her character, kindness and great love for children. Edna’s favorite moments were with her family, especially her children. She and Glenn raised man nieces and nephews as their own children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and fiend. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Sonny and Gail Cannon of Newnan, daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and John Sarno of Panama City, special nieces Sharron Johnson Rion and Bill of Burns Tennessee, and Johanna Johnson of Albuquerque New Mexico, grandchildren Craig and Karen Rainey of Panama City, Brooks and Ashley Barlow of Newnan, and Bryan and Cindy Barlow of Newnan, and five great grandsons. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Virginia Fields, BL Cannon, Charlsie Hardegree, Melba and Jack Kitchens, Reba and Ben Strickland, Garfield and Neil Cannon, 32 nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends. . The service for Mrs. Cannon will be held Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Wilson officiating. Audrey Marie Hennen Bray, 78, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at her home in Newnan, GA. She was born April 4, 1932 in Roselle, IL to the late Garfield Hennen & Margaret Burkhardt Hennen. Mrs. Bray owned and operated the Newnan Bakery for fourteen years. As an enthusiastic local business owner, she was a member of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, The Downtown Merchants Association, Newnan Coweta Art Association, and the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society. She attended West Georgia College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. Upon leaving Newnan Bakery, Mrs. Bray worked for Congressman Newt Gingrich in his Newnan office. During this time she became an active member of the Newnan-Coweta Republican party and helped establish the Newnan-Coweta Republican Women’s Association. When Congressman Newt Gingrich moved his office from Newnan to Atlanta, she began working for Congressman Mac Collins. After discovering she had breast cancer in 2002 she was instrumental in forming the Coweta-Newnan Breast Cancer Support Group. The visitation is Friday, September 17, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan. Sarah Jacqueline Herndon 1931-2010 Sarah Jacqueline Herndon, age 79 of Franklin passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at her residence. She was born on April 9, 1931 to the late Paul E Reeves and Dora Annie Estelle Trentham. Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Minister Lindsey Herndon of Franklin with whom she shared his ministry for almost 52 years in several states; daughter, Dora Glenda Creel of Franklin; son, Bobby Len and wife Clara Herndon of Hot Springs, Arkansas; son, Timothy Earl and wife Dr. Jamie Herndon of Aiken, South Carolina. She is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Margaret “Mickie” Abernathy of Newnan died September 27, 2010 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital following a long illness. She was a native of Macon, Georgia and was the daughter of the late James E. "Boots" and Helen Aiken. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Jimmy Aiken. Mickie had been employed by The Emory Clark Holder Clinic in LaGrange as a customer service representative. She is survived by her husband, John David Abernathy, Sr. of Newnan. Her children are Cyndi Hale and her husband Greg of Ringgold, John Abernathy and his wife Sherri of Roanoke and Laurie Abernathy of Valley, AL. Her grandchildren are Andrew Lee Hale, Nikki Hale of and Autumn Abernathy. Her great grandchildren are Amanda Hale and Janie Lynn Hale. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street in Newnan where the family will receive friends on Wednesday evening between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Paul A. Sturdevant, 79, of Warner Robins, GA (previously of Corry, PA), died on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Savannah Court Assisted Living Center in Newnan, Georgia. He was born July 21, 1931 in Bellevue, PA. He served in the United States Air Force for twenty years until his retirement as a Tech Sergeant. He then worked as an Aircraft Mechanic for Civil Service in Warner Robins and retired after ten years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by mother, Helen M. Sturdevant; and wife, Lossie Williams Sturdevant. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
