Henry Tipton
3/4/1915 - 1/14/2008

Lt. Col. (Ret) Henry Clayburn Tipton, died January 14, 2008. He was born March 4, 1915, in Oakville, Tennessee. He grew up on his family's farm in Horn Lake, Mississippi, and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1939. He served in WWII in England and North Africa. He was in the 501st Parachute Batallion, which was the very first to be deployed in any war, when the unit participated in the invasion of North Africa in 1942. This Batallion later became the 82nd Airborne. Lt. Col. Tipton Served for a total of 22 years at bases all over the world. After retiring from the Army in 1961 he and his family returned to Starkville, MS where he earned his Ph. D. in biology and animal nutrition from Mississippi State University. Dr. Tipton was then a professor of biological sciences at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He retired from teaching and returned to Starkville in 1980. He and his wife, Elizabeth, lived there until 2001 when they moved to Newnan, GA. He was an active member of the Methodist Church, Gideon International and the Exchange Club. He had been an active gardener. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Tipton, and his daughters Ann Tipton of Decatur, and Sarah LaMance and husband Chris of Newnan; his sons Henry Tipton and his wife Ann of Sautee-Nacoochee, and Bill Tipton and his wife Barbara of Kenny Lake, Alaska. He also leaves five grandchildren- Chris, Elizabeth and Preston LaMance, and Duncan and Jacob Tipton, and three great grand children- John, Jacob and Stella. A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 Saturday, January 19 in the auditorium at Wesley Woods in Newnan. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the charity of your choice, to Operation Smile, or the First United Methodist Church building fund.

J. Williams, Jr.
2/4/1921 - 1/10/2008

Mr. J. T. Williams, Jr. of Newnan died at his residence on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the age of 86. A life long resident of Coweta County, he was born on February 4, 1921 to the late J. T. and Era Sorrells Williams, Sr. Mr. Williams served in the United States Army during World War II in the China-Burma Theater and he was associated with the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Georgia. Mr. Williams retired from Hamilton- Arnall Insurance Co. in 1985. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 62 years, Willene Johnson Williams; his daughter and son-in-law Debbie W. and Jim Stripling of Newnan and his son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Carol Williams of Macon. Surviving grandchildren include Kristen Stripling Salvo, Lauren Stripling, Reid Stripling, Sarah Williams, and Spencer Williams. He is also survived by his brothers Eugene Williams of Newnan, Marvin Williams and his wife Margie of Moreland; Edgar Williams and his wife Jo Ann of Blakely. Mr. Williams was a member of Newnan First United Methodist Church, and his pastor, Dr. Med Roach will officiate at the funeral service to be held on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 4:00 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 2:30 PM. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to honor Mr. Williams’ memory may be made to Newnan First United Methodist Church 33 Greenville Street Newnan, Georgia 30263 or to any charity of one’s choice.

Loretta Kinkella
11/16/1941 - 1/10/2008

Loretta Jean Kinkella, age 66 of Sharpsburg, Ga. passed away on January 10, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Alan Kinkella of Sharpsburg; daughter, Kathleen & husband Javier Villela and grandson, Kayden Villela of Newnan. Brother, Larry Lowther of Tuscaloosa. Mrs. Kinkella is preceded in death by her father, George Waldo Lowther and mother Margaret Teeters Lowther. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 42 years. Mary Agnes Chesnutt Whiting , age 84 of Newnan passed away on January 10, 2008. She is survived by her son, John C. Whiting, Sr. and daughter Marion W. Quigley. Grandchildren; Katherine Q. & husband Joe Barnett, John C. & wife Cammy Whiting, Jr., Walter E. Quigley, James M. Whiting & William Douglas Whiting One great grandchild, Shelby Whiting. Sisters; Elizabeth Page, Lucille Rankin & Aline Anderson. She is preceded in death by her father, Alphus Carlton Chesnutt and mother Bessie Aline Adams Chesnutt. She was a corresponding secretary for the Coweta County Republican Women, a member of White Oak Ladies Golf Association, where she was a member of the Nifty Niners, and she did volunteer work for voter registration in Coweta County, as well as other civic work. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 13, 2008 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Ga. Services will be held on Monday, January 14, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Burial will be at Elmwood cemetery in Birmingham, Al. 3:00 PM Central Time. Doris Slaton Meacham, age 91 of Arnco, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Rosalyn & husband Johnny Norred of LaGrange, Ga. Grandchildren, Kevin and wife Shannon Norred of LaGrange & Steve and wife Linda Jo Norred of Hiram, Ga. Great grandchildren, Dylan & Cody. Sisters, Majorie Thompson of Tyrone, Ga., Myrtie Eubanks of Newnan, Geraldine Chambers of Forest Park, Ga. and Helen Howard of Riverdale, Ga. Mrs. Meacham was born to the late Eugene Slaton and Myrtice Chapman Slaton in Fayette County, Ga. Autry Burnham
12/21/1916 - 1/9/2008

Mr. Autry Garland Burnham, age 91, of Newnan died January 9, 2008 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. A native of Coweta County, he was born December 21, 1916 and was the son of the late David Nelson Burnham, Sr. and Maggie Freeman Burnham. For 66 years, he was the devoted husband of Bessie Ann Banks Burnham who preceded him in death in 2007. Their only child, Patricia Burnham Cox also died several weeks after her mother. Surviving Mr. Burnham are his grandchildren, Marlon Cox and his wife Dawn, and their children Alea and Christopher; Randy Cox and his wife Cindy and their children, Josh and Julia; Eddie Cox and his wife Ashley and their children Caraline and Kiley. His surviving sister is Katherine Burnham. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Eugenia Banks Strickland. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street in Newnan. The funeral service for Mr. Burnham will be on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery. James C. Denney age 78, passed away on Wednesday, Jan 09, 2008 at Newnan Piedmont Hospital. He was born on Feb 24, 1929 in Heard Co. Georgia, to Kramer R. and Effie Lee Arrington.
