Mr. Newsome, a native of Wilkes County, Ga., had retired as a clerk. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. He was a Little League umpire and coach and was a member of the Wilkes County Sports Hall of Fame.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
